RUMOR: And after the X-E2 comes the… X-E2s – Trusted Source

 photo successor_zpsmhv5by5w.png

So what will come after the X-E2? The X-E3 or X-E2s?

Well, according to a trusted source, it will be called Fujifilm X-E2s.

No Panic. The new X-E2 firmware will come. Just read this post…  it should make all X-E2 shooters out there confident 😉

stay tuned,

  1. I’ll bet on same 16MP sensor but new processor and better auto focus. Maybe the new B&W film sim? They can’t put too many of the same features as the X-Pro2 because they need to separate the two cameras for marketing purposes. The X-E2s will be markedly lower in price than the new X-Pro so they have to keep the feature set in line with the selling price. Just my 2¢. 🙂

    1. The same 16 mp sensor wouldn’t make much sense since this will probably be released way after the X-pro2 and X-T2, which would make this an inferior product compared to the new X-…2 line-up. That’s exactly the strong focus for Fuji: the essential hardware components and features that make up the image quality, are all the same across the whole line-up. They just made a mistake in naming the X-E2 because essentially the X-E2 is more an X-E1s. So now they will have to fix their numbering in the line-up by calling this one the X-E2s and not X-E3. But I bet it will have the same hardware components as the new X-pro2 and X-T2.

          1. When 1NooT1 said “this will probably be released way after the X-pro2 and X-T2” I was wondering what that was based on.

          2. Well I’m not sure if the X-T2 or the X-E2s will be first after the X-pro2. But at least the X-E1 originally came out about 6 months after the X-pro 1.

      1. I think the X-E2s will just have some minor changes over the X-E2 like X100s had over X100 and X100t had over X100s. So maybe just 16MP, a tilt screen, better AF, new film simulation, maybe WR. Or better: same specs than the X-T10. If it was getting the new 24MP sensor Fuji probably would has call it X-E3 because a complete new sensor plus a new processor aren’t just minor changes.
And maybe (hopefully not) they will never make an X-E3 with the newest technology from the X-Pro2/X-T2. That would be sad.

  2. X-Pro2 first, followed by X-T2 in the summer and then an X-E2s and X70!?

My biggest problem with Fuji is how and why they separate their camera models. I’m on the edge, waiting for the X-Pro2 but also looking at Sony. I know that won’t be a popular view but I have to be realistic.

It now looks likely that the X-Pro2 won’t have IBIS, no great surprised really. It also looks likely that it will not have a tilt screen, which I know won’t bother that many people, but I’d like it. No 4k video either, which I would personally find very useful.

So the X-T2, will it have 4k video? Maybe. Will have a tilt screen? most likely yes. Will it have IBIS? I’m guessing not, but who knows.

The X-Pro2 is said to cost about 20-30% more than the X-T1. We could be looking at £1200-£1300 here in the UK. So what do we get for that extra dosh then, is it just the benefit of the hybrid viewfinder? Because it looks like we’ll be losing other features as above (4k video and tilt lcd).

Ever since the X-T1 was released the X-Pro1 has been considered an inferior camera and rightly so in my opinion. Will the this happen again??

I really hope Fuji gets the line up right and that the flagship model has flagship features as well as style.

  3. If the X-E2 successor will have the same old 16 Megapixel sensor, hardly anyone will buy it. So we can assume it will have the same new (24+ MPix) sensor as the PRO2. And a 24 MPix sensor needs a new faster processor. New sensor and new processor means that it is a major upgrade, hence the successor will be called X-E3.

      1. It won’t, because you will also lose the high magnification view finder, the weather sealing, the tilt screen…
I think the E line will be to the Pro line what the T10 is to the T1.

    1. And who will buy the X-Pro2? A premium-priced camera – above the entry level A7, also trying to compete with it – but equipped with an entry level APS/C Sony 24MP sensor and ISO-capabilities that are comparable to what most advanced DSLRs already achieved years ago. Sorry I’m really very disappointed – it keeps on bugging me this is the technological progress where we have been waiting for more than 2 years now. Are we maybe still missing a part of the technical details (it must be, not?). If there isn’t a more compelling story than this to expect – as a kind of miracle-solution which has has to revive the X-series, I’m afraid there will be no X-Pro3, X-T3, X-E3 only a very harsh discontinuation message early 2017. How many expert-photography sites, blogs of professional photographers,… aren’t taking now, today, at the end of 2015 the Sony A7 to be thé sole reference while Fuji is sliding more and more back in the fan-kind of blogging? Fujifilm R&D: we want the best, not the cheap stuff Sony wipes off the dish.

      1. The big selling point of fuji was always the set of lenses. Sony was not even a close match. But nowadays the gap is getting smaller. It is indeed time that fuji ups their game

        1. Hello no! I eagerly await a newer sensor X100 camera, but I think they’re in a weird spot with the moniker; X100U doesn’t really look right to me.

    1. Exactly my thoughts: one digit for each sensor generation. X-Pro2 first, then X-T2, X200, X-E2s, X-T20. Then cometh the next sensor after 2-3 years.
When the lesser models are updated and receive new features those are added to the higher models via FW update (like with X-T1 and X-T10). That way all current generation cameras would have the same software and you could easily combine different models.

Of course having X-Trans “3” in generation “2” is sort of a blemish 😉

  4. Please not 2s! This looks like the crippled Apple Minor Updates 5s, 6s etc.
Or like Windows SE, Second Edition.
Please made a major Update X-E3!

    1. The three s-iphones actually represent significant tech upgrades compared to the respective predecessor, despite very similar appearances.
In a similar way the only S-camera of the Fujifilm X-series – X100S – was a significant rework of the internals of the original X100.
Following this, a “X-E2s” could turn out to be essentially what you seem to expect from a camera called “X-E3”.

    1. Not much point. The A7S’s ISO perfromance only shows if you’re doing video. And god help you if you’re trying to do video with a Fuji, let alone an X-E model. When it comes to stills, the A7S doesn’t actually produce cleaner final images than the A7R; the higher resolution sensor captures more detail and makes both shadow and highlight recovery easier, while also making noise reduction more effective. If you take the same frame with both cameras, you can always process and scale the A7R image down to the size of the A7S’ image and get the exact same results, but you still have that option of having a much larger file fo the times you don’t need the high ISO.

So, a 10mp E2 with better ISO performance wouldn’t actually be any kind of upgrade. In fact, the Fuji cameras already have the same ISO performance as the Sonys, compensating for the crop factor. So, a 10mp X-E2 would just be a lower resolution X-E2. It wouldn’t have better noise. Taking the existing X-E2, let alone the newer, larger sensor we presume the X-Pro2 will launch, and simply scaling down when you need to will give you the same/better results and much more flexibility.

I do 99.99% of my work at ISO >1600, typically 3200 and quite often 6400, and I would never trade a much higher resolution sensor in. 16mp as it is is not really enough, often. If you want low noise for video, if you are a professional and you need low noise for video, you should be using something like an FS7 or C500, anyway. If you’re doing anything else, buying a camera with a smaller sensor does not make sense in terms of the final image. You’re simply not gaining anything and you’re throwing away options.

      1. “The A7S’s ISO perfromance only shows if you’re doing video.”

“In fact, the Fuji cameras already have the same ISO performance as the Sonys, compensating for the crop factor.”

Both are incorrect and easily verifiable on any site.

  5. i think x-e2s will have the same specs as x-pro2 -weathersealing -hybrid viewfinder, single sd-card slot. processor & sensor the same, maybee slower max shutterspeed

      1. it makes totally sense. the x-e2s is the smaller cheaper version of the x-pro2. i said same specs = same 24mp sensor. but because it is the smaller version like the X-t10 to X-t1 is. they will probably drop some features like they did with the X-T10 = weather sealing etc.

  6. More or less the same as the previous model, just with a newer, larger sensor slapped in. That’d make sense, following the X100 > X100S evolution.

  7. Well if the XE2 gets the update I’m getting it. I mean what other camera in the world spells SEX when you take mirror pics?!?!??! For the love of God!! It’s the ultimate sexy selfie camera!

  8. Another perspective:
X-E2s, that ” s ” means a (very) minor update, so you could think there won’t be a FW update at all for the X-E2, despite the rumors.
