[UPDATE] FR-reader Justin dropped me this email: “Hello Patrick, I happened to be talking to Fuji UK this morning (Thursday), and they said that Fuji hoped to have the amended firmware available “by the end of the weekend“.
The latest firmware for the X-PRO1 has a problem with the movie function and therefore Fujifilm had to remove the latest update from its support site (the X-E1 firmware version 2.00 is still available). On their website Fuji says:
Thank you very much for using FUJIFILM X-Pro1.
We are very sorry that we have found a malfunction on the movie function in the upgraded firmware version 3.00 posted on 23 Jul 2013. We are improving the firmware and we will post it again once we complete the improvement. We deeply apologize for your inconvenience which this may cause.
Please contact your local support center if you have already upgraded your X-Pro1 with the version 3.00.

Uh….ok.
Can we go back to 2.05??
I am happy that Fuji keeps improving the camera, but on the other hand I don’t understand why they release products thar are clearly half tested or rushed. How many users really dedicate time to go online, download firmware, keep track of releases, etc? Only Fuji knows the number of cameras they’ve sold and the number of owners that have actually kept their firmware up to date. I am sure many X-Pro1 still have the old firmwares and thus the frustration from many of the quirks that have been solved later on. Kaizen is nice, but a more thorough product engineering and testing would be even nicer.
Can some one please share a download link for the Xpro1, I have just missed the train:(
I’m heading to Los Angeles tomorrow and need the faster autofocus pretty bad… I’m not looking forward to shoot any video.. Thanks Alot!
Demir,
I did update it, I played with the movie mode, did not experience anything yet. Should be contact Fuji,
Does this mean Movie Mode has been enhanced?
Any reviews on this, if so?
Well, not in its current state. 😛
No problems here.
My XPro1 + 60mm seem to to be OK
So much for Kaizen… 😉
How exactly this goes against Kaizen? Kaizen is hardly a perfect process. In fact the very process acknowledges failures. Do you really know what Kaizen is? 🙂
He just wanted to write something important.
No problems here, works ok for me with stills and movie.

Thank you for the link to your site, Paul. Fantastic work!
I never use the movie mode, and hopefully that’s the only thing broken. Everything else seems to be working fine anyway.
there is a video-mode inside my X-Pro??? 😀
please Fuji, throw that whole video-thing off the firmware and so get rid of the problem(s).
just focus on building/improving excellent photographic tools for us.
Yeah sure – sell a product with features and then throw them off at your convenience? Do you ever think before you write something like that?
I got THE problem in video mode… i’m on a trip in Canada but i bought my prestige edition in France. Hope “The local support” gonna say something real about it… video mode i don’t shoot so much with the XPro but the fact is that fuji is taking the problem pretty seriously and doesn’t say if there are “collateral damages” and real hardware problems due to this update, but they pretty clear, bring the camera to the local support, so it’s a major problem or what? I know it is, but how bad is it for the hardware it can be a problem?
Thanks for the great work, to all X shooters.
J
Half baked Fuji 😉 just like the x pro 1 initial release, clearly no one bothered tested before it went live.
Wow. You don’t work anywhere near software and or hardware development? Sometimes I wonder why people even bother to post, specially when they don’t have to say anything useful.
I guess it’s minor… they gonna propose a new firmware, shit happens. They can remove the video mode anyway…they put efforts and consistence in this firmware, i can accept a glitch, if this is just a glitch, and doesn’t affect the camera and the pictures taken with.
What’s the point having a video mode that has no manual exposure control in a pro camera?
It’s a stills camera primarily. Everyone knows that. If you are a pro video shooter and you bought an X-pro1….keep your day job.
Oh, I remember this kind of posts in the early days of the Canon dSLR video mode. “Huh, if you want to shoot, video, dump your PHOTOcamera and buy a video camera”.
Nobody is saying that now. Seems that some Fuji users are still in the stone age.
A camera these days is an image-making tool. Whether those images are still or moving is up to the user. The X-series has the potential to replace SLR gear, but that can only happen when it offers a proper movie mode.
At the moment, no Fuji can replace my Canon, but I’m waiting for the day when it can.
+1
So many people are flocking to 5D III for it’s beautiful video.
And these are pro users. Not hobbyists.
I’m yet to capture video since I’ve bought the camera.. 😛
Ditto
I tried video this morning (although with a manual lens+adapter) and no problem so far with the new firmware. Have to do some testing to see if there was any improvement in video recording but, as someone said, I hardly use it anyway. It is a stills camera primarily…and a fantastic one at that.
Oh Cool, they added nice Instagram type filters for the Movie Mode.. SWEET..
See.. that’s how you turn lemons into lemon-aide 🙂
mine was working fine too.. in full HD.
i switched to HD (1280) mode and actually the video is broken (HD and even FULL HD)
Not too bothered about the video mode glitch (mine is now intermittent – it works ok sometimes). However, it would seem to have set the focus peaking to off. I’m using a manual focus lens.
I eventually found the setting on the menu (manual focus assist) and set it back to focus peaking. I may have caused this as I did fiddle with the settings when the video glitch first showed up, but I would swear I didn’t touch this particular setting. Has anyone experienced the same?
Hi, to quickly set the focus peaking on/off you can just hold the jog wheel in for a few seconds, this toggles between peaking and standard (off). Cheers Jon
So there’s what must have happened. Thanks!
No problem for me…now AF is fast like my x100s…but far from any OMD or my DSLR.
….but any improvments for x100s?..no firmware only minor update?
mmmh not good
…does this new firmware contain full manual video control????
no.
i made several test with XP1 and 35, 60, 18/55 and a manual lens..
so it seem video work correctly using a FULL HD 1920 resolution, but it’s broken uding HD 1280 resolution.
no.. that’s really strange FULL HD was ok, till i use tha HD mode..
actually even FULL HD video is corrupted!
Yes fuji has broken video mode,
Like I’ve said earlier and will continue to say, they clearly have rushed and don’t thoroughly test, anyone who denies that is deluded.
The x100 released full of bugs
The x pro released with a hopeless AF and near useless MF,
The only people defending fuji are the fanboys with the “Oh well it’s ok they are relative newcomers!” Defence
KaiZen = Epic Fail
Yes.
Unfortunately, its easy to ask for frequent updates, and even convince yourself and others that its a good idea. But with every change there is a risk that something is broken, or something is changed which interrupts your workflow.
It would not surprise me if the Video bug has wider potential impact and that we simply have not seen the effects so far.
Personally, I would be happier if Fuji put the update from last month, this bad one, the fix and the one the planned to add color peaking into a single release which worked. As it is they now have 4 releases, each of which has to be tested against every lens and every combination of operation (look at all the menus to understand how much work that is).
We can only assume that there are other bugs, and there is no simple way to revert to the old version. Now I’m going to shoot some XPro1 video and see this for myself 🙂
Interesting bug.
It just seems to happen from time to time, does not seem to depend on user action. Once it happens it seems to stay broken until the battery is removed.
Any way, video on the XP1 has not improved … so not sure how big a deal this is, its so hopeless to use. OK, its (the bug) is bad but … unless there is impact somewhere else that we don’t know about then, well, perhaps next time Fuji will leave well enough alone.
How do you do video with the Fuji? Don’t reply, I’m not interested. I have seen people doing video with Panasonic or Canon. They had so much stuff attached to the camera that I kept askìng why they did not use a specific instrument. Fast manual focus lenses, they replied, adapted cheap old glass from Contax or Leica R or even ancient Carl Zeiss Jena glass. I don’t think the Fuji is in the same league, and I’m happy I shoot stills with firmware 3.0.
Yeah?
How about you go up to a Canon 5D III user shooting pro video and treat him with such disdain.
Or a 6D user. With his Wifi, GPS, pro lenses, excellent movie mode … all for similar cost to a Pro X system. And full frame.
I just discover another bug on the new firmware 2.00 for the ex1 and the firmware 3.00 for the lens 18-55!
When I turn the aperature ring to the lower end 2.8 and keep on turning in the same direction, then suddenly the aperature increase to 3.2, 3,6. Then, if I turn the ring in the other direction, the aperature gets heratic…
Admin, could you give me Fuji’s mail in order to inform them about this new issue?
I wouldn’t even have noticed, as I don’t shoot video.
mine is ok.. are u sure u aren’t zooming in?
Whats all this about a movie mode i keep hearing about…….I didnt even know the Xpro1 had a movie mode : )
Great update for stills, the AF is greatly improved, much quicker and better in low light… My X-Pro1 still shoots video but the onscreen controls for playback have disappeared, I can play it back with the down arrow, but this is not what I primarily use it for..
Pity about the problem because otherwise Fuji really seem to listen to their customers and have been doing a great job.. Carrying a camera all day has become a joy again..
Wait, there’s a movie mode?! 😉
oh man.. Movie mode is the only reason I have this camera, I use my cell phone for stills.
😉
Except, technically you only ever use your phone for phone calls. Being a purist, and all.
Here is what I got from Fuji when I inquired about it:
“We are very sorry that we have found a malfunction on the movie function in the upgraded firmware version 3.00 posted on 23 July 23 2013. We are improving the firmware and we will post it again once we complete the improvement. We deeply apologize for your inconvenience which this may cause. The updated firmware should be out within a couple of days and can be download from our website.”
Updated on the 23rd and had no problems but today while doing some videos my x-pro1 started behaving like the image shown in this post, while review the video, and started seeing what looks like a hot pixel on the right side of the screen slightly above the center line that does not show on video or captured stills and only appears after half pressing the shutter and while not pressing the shutter, during autofocus it dissapears, and only shows in low light situations when in bright light or well lit places it doesn’t show. This just started happening today after I read about the firmware glitch and after some tests with video it started showing that pixel, the thing is that I have to wait till they release a new firmware and see if it is something caused by the 3.0 FW or I have to call fuji for a repair. Did any of you experienced something like this??
Updated camera, AND lens firmware, works fine–noticeable AF improvement– for me and my 14,18 and 35mm lens.
I do not use video mode(with this camera nor my Nikon); I use another device to do that.
