Nissin i40 release pushed back to the end of December (source BHphoto)

 photo jpg_zpsbb5d8656.jpg

It was expected for September, its release had been pushed back to mid November, and the latest info we have vom BHphoto, is that the Nissin i40 flash is expected to be available on December 29. The same flash is ready and available on the market for other brands, but not for Fujifilm. I’ve shared rumors in the past, that Nissin is waiting for the proper Fujifilm firmware update to release the flash.

At the German store WexDE the Nissin i40 is said to be ready for shipping “in 1 to 10 weeks“, which basically means “we have no idea when it will be available“.

    1. Which Yongnuo wireless trigger works well for you? I’ve read so many contradictory articles I still haven’t bought any for my X-Pro1.

      1. I use Yongnuo YN-560 III as a flash and Yongnuo RF-603C II as a trigger. I specify that the trigger has to be “II” (second generation) or else it will not work on Fuji X. This is what I have been told – I use a Fuji X-Pro1. I have been looking for this information for a long time – so, good luck!

  1. Nissin’s Japanese site still simply says: “Release Date Undetermined” for the Fujifilm version. I would have liked to have this by now, but I suppose I can wait.

  2. Do you suppose this means Nissin knows that Fuji finally is going to implement wireless flash control, and is holding up release until they do? Compatibility with the relevant manufacturer’s wireless system is a feature of the i40, so it would be pretty lame to have to disable this for the Fuji version just because Fuji hasn’t dragged its flash system into the 1990s yet…

  3. Over at DPReview (http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3741941) a user posted an e-mail answer from Nissin regarding the delays with Fuji compatibility. From the e-mail: Nissin is waiting for Fuji to upgrade the X-series with HSS capabilities. The message is written in a manner however, that makes it unclear for me if this means HSS for new bodies or an HSS-upgrade for older generations as well. We’ll have to wait and see…

  4. Just bought the Cactus V6 and two RF60’s. In HSS sympathy mode I’m getting clean frames at 1/4000th sync with my X-T1. Forget waiting for TTL, the Cactus combo does everything you need and more.

    1. It also works great with the X-Pro1. The big feature is remote manual control of flash power level across different brands, flash profile learning mode, etc. It really is a great do-all system for Fuji shooters.

    2. can you explain how it works? I place the V6 in hot shoe of my XT1 and then RF60 on the top of V6 and then it works in HSS mode as TTL flash? Can you be more specific? I am interested in any solutions that would allow me to use a flash on top of my XT1 and have Flash Xsync above 1/160

      1. For HSS sympathy you don’t use the V6. Use the EF-X8 on the X-T1, and set the RF60 to optical slave and HSS mode. Set the delay to about 60ms. You may have to tweak the delay +/- depending on the aperture, etc. It’s not a TTL system but that’s the beauty of it. Just like everything else about the X system, it let’s *you* do the driving.

  5. I really hope this is all being delayed for a massive announcement of the XP2 and complete flash system. That would be amazing!!
