New Zeiss X-mount lenses to be announced soon?

While we are still waiting to get some news about the future X cameras we may soon get new X-mount lenses! Not from Fuji…from Zeiss! Some sources confirmed that Zeiss will announce three new X-mount primes in early April. Those are the 12mm f/2.8, 32mm f/1.8 and 50mm f/2.8. All priced at around 1.000 Euro and all with electronic Aperture and Autofocus control.

Two of the lenses may a bit too close to current Fuji offerings. The 12mm f/2.8 Zeiss will be a tiny bit wider but also more expensive than our Fuji 14mm f/2.8 (Price check at [shopcountry 6152]). And the 32mm f/1.8 will be slower and more expensive than the already very good Fuji 35mm f/1.4 (Price check at [shopcountry 386]). At the end the 50mm f/2.8 is likely the most unique lens within the X range.

Now it’s up to you….

    1. That change to the 50mm is pretty significant though. Having the XF14 & XF35 already my only other want was the 56mm, but Zeiss might bring something special to the table 🙂

More choices are better than fewer! 🙂

      1. Yes, will be particularly interesting if the 50mm is a competitor to the 56mm, it was originally announced as a macro lens…

I did read somewhere that they will have fast and quiet autofocus motors. That would also be nice to have on a prime lens.

  1. If Zeiss offer something that Fuji won’t, like a 85mm 1.4 or something along those lines, I may buy one. However, since Fuji are upgrading the firmware of the lens, as well as the firmware of the body, and since the Fuji lenses are extremely high quality, I’ll go for the Fuji lenses in every case there is an alternative to the Zeiss lenses.

  2. Might be interesting to know if those lenses have real mechanical manual focus or the stupid servo control.

  3. I would be much more interested in real availability rather than a reannouncement of last years announcement. I am going to get either the Fuji 14mm or the Zeiss 12mm but am not going to wait on Zeiss forever.

  5. Well, I am still in the process to buy a E-X. Thought I should wait to the next iteration of this excellent camera, but I just realized that the Swedish krona is very strong at this time making a purchase from UK very favorable (-15%).
One of my reasons for investing in the X-system is the lenses: Intelligent selection in the roadmap and a very fine relation quality vs price. I like Zeiss lenses a lot, but the brand name is expensive….

  6. Can’t wait reading a review of this future 32mm …

I think a 35mm on APS-C is a bit too long, 32mm would be perfect.
The pentax 31mm limited is an excellent lens for street photography, I don’t have the same feeling with 35mm lenses, the few mm are a important gap.
(This is a point of view of course)

  7. To me the Zeiss lenses basically bring the XP1 a little bit closer to being my dream camera, a digital Contax G2. The 32mm Planar is sort of close to what the 45mm Planar was on the G system. I think it’s a cool alternative.

  8. Curious to see if zeiss x mount lenses will have the same “character” of ZE, ZF etc. and how they will compare with the Fuji ones.

    1. Possibly, they will have the character of their smaller lenses, the ZM or Contax G variety. Of course, the new lenses will be aperture coupled as are the SLR ZE/ZF lenses and as are the SLR lenses for the X but their optical formulas may be different.

  9. will ziess themselves issue firmware updates with these lenses, or will fuji have to do it to make them fully compatable with their XF mount cameras?. I would love to put zeiss glass on my X-E1 but looking at the price of zeiss glass for other camera`s I doubt I could afford it, also the Fuji XF lenses themselves are so bl—y good in their own wright that the only reason (I personally) would choose zeiss over fujinon is if the zeiss are sold cheaper, which realistacilly is not going to happen. On the other hand fair play to zeiss for recognising the XF camera`s ability to do their lenses justice!.

  10. I wrote Zeiss half a year ago, that i think that this variants of focal lengths aren’t ideal for this kind of system, more precisly in combination with their announced apeture values. I think i wrote that they should bring lenses closer to a noctilux style, like an 32mm f1.2 or 23mm f1.0. They need real innovation to capture the niche market here. They deleted my comment and respond with, mmm, nothing. After i reviewed the voting, i think i am right.

I know Zeiss lenses are great, i got some real nice C/Y T* lenses, but we i also know fuji lenses are great and nearly at the same level of precision. You can discuss the construction part, but that’s not relevant for anyone buyin a lens. The optical thing is to complex to discuss, but we all have our preferences. In any case, a 32mm f1.8 sounds needless for me, but i would like to get myself assured of the opposite.

  11. Why not a 35mm equivalent? It’s probably the better choice to make that becaus it is a very good focal length for street photography. I would buy it.

    Best regards

    wutschal

  12. Why would I want any of these lenses?? They don’t fill-in any gaps in the Fuji line-up. What I’d like to see is somehing in the telephoto (200mm FF) or short-telephoto (135mm FF).
