You can download the new firmware for your X-E1 and X PRO 1 cameras:
– X-E1 Firmware Update Ver.1.05
– X-Pro1 Firmware Update Ver.2.04
The “only” improvement is the AF speed with XF55-200mmF3.5-4.8 R LM OIS.

That’s sad. I thought that the new firmware would be a bigger improvement in terms of UI and AF…
@The_Zupper – it does include improvements in terms of AF, not just for additional lenses but “improved under a various shooting condition”. Nothing “sad” about that, at all. In fact, besides Canon, Fujifilm has been one of the few companies wanting and willing to continue offering firmware updates to their cameras. To me, as a customer, that means a tremendous amount. It means they can gain loyal customers. As of UI, what changes were you expecting and or wanting?
They updated the FW to support a new lens, so they don’t do this to be nice … they do it because otherwise its a defective product.
You’re correct. I stand corrected. I had to re-read what was informed on Fuji’s site. For now, the firmware release is for the new lens only. I could have sworn Fuji was also going to release a firmware update for general autofocus improvement for the bodies.
With UI I meant new functions in the menues. Wrong word, sorry. Last time I read that the new update would be great. That’s what I mean.
Just would like to inform that the 55-200 lenses are now available for sale in Japan. I’m getting mine shipped from Japan today and will have it early next week 🙂
Lifeispixils,
Where and what.store in Japan did you buy, I live in Japan and would buy one tomorrow if I could find one.
muMinded
I ordered from Matsuiya Store in Kanagawa. They told me they could get the 55-200 now. I paid 698 USD including express shipping to Thailand and should get it early next week. I saw the average price in Japan is approx. 60000 Yen but I paid around 70000 Yen. I know I paid extra but I didn’t want to wait and this is the store that I trust as I have been buying from for so long and they’re willing to ship internationally. Hope this helps 🙂
that’s where i got my xf 14mm. shipping was quick.. once the item finally shipped.
Found the link of this store on eBay here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/380647656070?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649
When Sony introduced focus peaking they also updated the existing model via firmware. It seems Fujifilm is not following the same path, any idea about this possibility in the near future or is it likely that only new versions of the cameras will bring the X100s MF improvements?
let’s wait and see the promised fw in July. If it doesn’t come in that fw, chances are it will not come anymore…
There is a promise of new FW in July?
In the original press release on dpreview: it mentions the firmware the will come in July:
“New Firmware for FUJIFILM X-Pro1 and FUJIFILM X-E1
New firmware will also be released to improve auto focus performance for the FUJIFILM X-Pro1 and FUJIFILM X-E1*3. The new firmware maximizes the benefit of the XF lenses and enables the cameras to search the contrast AF quickly throughout the full range of focal length. The focus speed will be as fast as 0.7 seconds even if it searches from infinity to MOD at the telephoto end. The new firmware*3 will be available in July 2013 for download at Fujifilm.com.”
Now I’m not sure if the firmware released today is the same one described above. But I also read somewhere that they will release a firmware to fix lot of bugs on X-E1 in July. I’m trying to find that source though.
Here is the source from dpreview about firmware in July: http://www.dpreview.com/news/2013/04/17/fujifilm-announces-xf-55-200mm-f3-5-4-8-r-lm-ois-telephoto-zoom-lens
Its hard to make sense of Fuji releases, it would seem certain that there is new Lens firmware … but camera firmware not so sure.
I would not expect Fujifilm to release a software update to allow focus peaking. If they were going to release such an update, it would have been in this update since the X100s is already out. That feature, along with probably a new sensor, will be available in their new X-Pro. Sony pumps out bodies so often, with a significant lack of following up with software updates. Fuji on the other hand is thus far the opposite. There’s been more firmware updates than bodies released. Interpret that as you will, but to me, the hardware is great as it is. While it would be very nice to have a firmware update to allow focus peaking, to be fair, Fuji has updated the X-Pro1’s firmware far more than any camera body Sony has pumped out.
Think i remember something about the processor not being fast enough to allow focus peaking in the ‘older’ cameras. But imho, then they’re doing it wrong. 😛
While split-screen of course needs the new phase-detect sensor as we know.
that is sad – not possible to change minimal shutter speed when Auto ISO, no exposure correction when in M mode and Auto ISO, no focus peaking…why? I do not think that is so big technical problem. ( maybe Fuji do not want to improve it, they want to insert this functions to next model.:-( )
Just a quick lens compatibility update, wait for the ‘large’ update in July as planned. 🙂
press release on Fuji website said Camera firmware update in May (at same time as 55-200 shipping) and LENS firmware updates in July. So I am not expecting any more camera updates for Auto-iso etc. But I will be happy if there is a further camera update in July.
By the way, can anyone try testing the AF speed/accuracy of other lenses if there is any improvement because according to the Fuji press conference here: http://www.fujifilm.com/news/n130417_02.html
It should improves af speed of other lenses too:
“NEW Firmware will speed up the Auto Focus performance of the X-Pro1 and X-E1 compact system cameras
At the launch of the XF55-200mmF3.5-4.8 R LM OIS lens, Fujifilm will upgrade the firmware for both the X-Pro1 and X-E1 cameras. Thanks to a new algorithm, the firmware will be able to harness the full capability of the lens enabling both cameras to search the contrast AF quickly throughout the full range of focal length. The focus speed will be as fast as 0.7 sec. even if it searches from infinity to the Minimum Object Distance at the telephoto end.
By upgrading your X-Pro1 or X-E1 with new firmware you will also improve the AF speed with other existing XF lenses. *** The firmware will be available to download from http://www.fujifilm.com nearer the launch of the XF55-200mmF3.5-4.8R LM.”
I would like to see firmware for X-E1 which will negate freezing when you press play from shooting mode to review image. I guess that they should keep last image in some kind of temporary memory. At the moment, it looks like that camera every time when you press play makes some processing. This is really annoying and something that my Nikon D80 from 2006 wasn’t doing.
Beside that, it would be nice if Fuji allow us to use cursor butons as function tasters. So that we can designate, lets say, left button for ISO, right button for WB, down button for focus point selection, etc. At the moment these tasters are dead until you press menu or Q button. I know that we have Q menu, but that involves more movements and taster pressings.
Anticipation is a b.tch ! I was hoping for more…
At least minimum shutter speed, they’ve had it on the X100 since day one, I never understood why it was omitted in the X-E1 ?
I might be wrong but I think it should be fairly easy to add it through a firmware update and since FUJI apparently reads comments and takes its customers into consideration, they must know that it’s a feature largely requested… Maybe they’re keeping it all for the future X-E2…
IIRC Rico thinks a big update is coming … but why offer _new_ functionality for _existing_ cameras which are working as designed? Good feelings with customers … not the way to make money!
I would guess at some point there is a new high end X camera, perhaps not a XP1 or E1 specifically, but rather a combined replacement. And in this one they might take a crack at fixing all the shortcomings.
Or they just leave it how it is and go FF which would be fine by me 🙂
I upgraded the firmware on my X-E1 and noted an improvement in the AF (quieter mechanical sound during power on/off and less hunting when focusing) with Fujifilm 35mm lens mounted. Is it me or is anybody out there with similar experience?
Same experience. Seems even a little bit faster with the 60mm as well.
I thought it might be a placebo effect until I tried it for myself. It’s a slight improvement, but noticeable if you’re familiar with the camera. The autofocus just seems more sure of itself, with less hunting.
60 mm hunts as before. PLACEBO.
yeah, placebo effect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQ4H99xEYAo&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I did some before/after tests (also with the 35mm), and I agree that it seems more “sure of itself”. I can’t say I notice a difference in speed, but it behaves differently.
no thanks.
There are 2 FW updates to be released relax… this was supposed to always only add the 55-200.
This the other is in July which has all the AF promises associated with it. We can complain once that one is released 😉

Really disappointed Fujifilm havn’t added the peaking mode function in the new firmware update.
+1 🙁
IMO focus peaking is objectless. zooming 3/10x on OVF is PERFECT (repeat IMO).
Autofocus with 60 is damned SLOW SLOW SLOW ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzZZZZzzZzz
DAMN IT FUJI. GIVE US 4K 60P 14BIT RAW VIDEO NOW!!!!!
Sarcasm ?
all i want for the new firmware is just the AE lock in video mode!
FWIW – updated both the 18-55 and X-E1, seems the same.
Would definitely be happy getting minimum shutter speed, focus peeking, etc.
Loving it regardless.
My wife’s manufacturer (her mother) doesn’t upgrade her firmware but after almost 16 years I still love her ;-P
Dear Fujifilm, I would like to change focus points while framing. There are four buttons, three of them useless because the top one is used for macro mode.
I would really love to choose what I want to focus on, without pressing the AF button.
Please help me change focus points while shooting.
Here, here!

Seriously… This is one of the few things that truly bugs me about my Fuji compared to my Nikon… That, and a total lack of compressed raw options.
agree!!!
There is a new bug in this firmware
This weekend I shot about 1300 photos at a social event with my xe1 and 18-55
The camera show 5 times that “I have to power off, then on ” because there was a problem while making a noise from the autofocus
With the previous Firwmare never saw this message
sorry for my English
