This means, I cannot use the 18-135 on a X-E1?
No …just read the XE-1 part ..it says
1. Addition of compatibility with “XF18-135mmF3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR” – To ensure that autofocus performs as expected, upgrade the firmware for the camera.

No update for the X-E1? Should I throw it away now?
http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/firmware/x/xe1/index.html
There is a 2.30 for X-E1 already.
Thank you deng! 🙂
And even though it is not a massive update for the x-e1, Fuji is still correcting stuff for the “old” gear, on top of adding lens compatibility (which is a must-have). Pretty impressive I must say.
same question I wanted to ask as the previous 2. X-E1 by omission means that support is now dropped for the older model?
3.Improvement of Movie-record button operability
To avoid an accidental movie shooting, the delayed time will become longer between the moment you press the button and a movie shooting starts or ends.
argh let us customise the damn button already
I second that one as I still don’t care about taking movies 😉
They better did nothing with it. Now it’s harder both recording video (due to delay) and taking picures (due to stupid location of record button)
Still not able to convert files to 16-bit TIFF using the in-camera raw converter.
I wouldn’t expect to since that wasn’t listed in the firmware update…
Exactly. My point is that they are sleeping on it.
Even Sigma provides its own raw converter, which is the only reason why we can get exceptional image quality from the DP Merrills.
Hopefully Fuji doesn’t continue to neglect this with the X-Pro 2. If they do, I doubt I will buy it, as I want the most out of my cameras.
The current options for raw conversion are just ok, and each one comes with its own compromises in image quality, which Fuji shouldn’t be satisfied with, especially since one of their main selling points was excellent image quality.
Agreed. It is a crime that Fujifilm allows its RAW files to be defined by companies that are clearly way beyond the curve in the X Trans.
Can I use the 18-135 with my x-e1?
Calm down everyone, there’s an update for the xe1 too.
phew!
sorry, this happens if you write in a post in a hurry cause you have to take the bus that brings you at work.
of course X-E1 too
This is less kaizen than salesmanship…
X-Pro1 owner…..
I can’t deny I was hoping for a little more than 18-135 compatibility…. What happened to the colour selection for focus peaking that was supposed to be rolled out throughout the X range?
i want colour focus peaking
and a fix for AF, not to release AF point when you are releasing the shutter button
Need colour focus peaking for X-pro1
what about colour focus peaking for x-e1? it’s the only thing i am missing…perhaps they are not able to implement it to the older models? could that be possible?
No AF-C improvement for the X-T1? Or generell AF improvement? I watched for the firmware update every day because i find the AF-C really boring with the pumping AF. I also thought about to sell the whole fuji stuff. Seems i have to wait for the next update…
AF-C works fine on my X-T1.
AF-C works fine with my XT-1 too.
I am an avid IPSC shooter as well and I see this nit picking there all the time. It must be the ammo, it must be the trigger, the Glock 34 is just not as accurate as the Sig 226. Maybe, just maybe, the user could take a bit of time to learn HOW the tool works and how to get the most out of it. I have a buddy that can drive his car at 145 top speed. Funny thing is I can get it closer to 155. Fuji focus is just fine, faster than your hands I’m sure. Practice….. Just sayin…..
Like the new X-T1 exp compensation/indication. Only thing is that it would be better if the needle/indicator was yellow in manual exposure mode, just like in auto exposure modes.
Heck, when will they finally exhume the flash exposure compensation? I love my Fuji Xes (X-T1, X-E2) but burying flash exp comp in a menu labyrinth is a load of crap.
Absolutely true. It’s as if Fujifilm don’t use their own cameras.
It’s good to see firmware improvements. They are still working on our cameras. 🙂
I hope they took a look at the “ultimate KaiZen firmware poll”.
Request for next firmware update:
Battery percentage
Eye AF like Sony
Eye AF is a hardware thing…
I may be wrong, but Sony’s eye AF looks like an improved face detection. Provided our Fujis have enough processing power it doesn’t look impossible.
This eye AF is very different from Canon’s eye controlled AF, which needs supporting hardware.
ah, right.
Sorry, I confused eye AF with eye controlled AF …
Battery percentage requires new batteries with more smarts. I agree, though, that we need a better gauge of battery life.
Maybe not new battery. Maybe new camera hardware. Battery has 4 terminals, but camera only has 2.
dissapointing firmware upgrade….I’m not even gonna install it…
Maybe they do not announce every little detail they change. Especially if they fix a bug nobody has noticed before…
Sure, there are always a few fixes that aren’t publicly disclosed. This update is no difference.
So X-E2 compatibility with the X-T1’s remote camera control app is there but wasn’t publicly disclosed? 😉
I share your big disappointment too ( for X-E1/2, X-Pro1 ). I could accept if there is no big improvement there but I’m very missing correction of obvious BUGS in FW.
1.
Exposure compensation setting is ignored in semiAUTO mode: autoISO, Manual Tv & Av. If ISO is in AUTO mode exposure compensation must be applied !!!! this is really frustrating …. I’m forced by this bug to set manual ISO and modify it frequently according actual light conditions ( in situation when Tv is set to acceptable value to avoid motion blur and Av is set usually to lowest value, wide open )….. this procedure is really inconvenient. ….. I’m frustrated also because this bugfix is very easy to do by Fuji.
2.
improve minimum Shutter settings (apply correction according current lens focal length )
There was some rumors about possible FW updates
Do somebody know if there is some “real” FW update planed for x-E1/2, xpro1 as I requested????
Bad luck, this was not Kaizen day for X-E1/2, Xpro1.
Worthless update. Fuji owes the early adopters, X-Pro 1 and X-E1 owners, color focus peaking.
I was an early adopter (X-Pro1 with firmware 1.00, bought it when focus-peaking wasn’t even planned at all).
Fuji owes me nothing.
I second that. We got plenty of additional features without any obligation by Fuji already, far beyond the bug-fixing updates (if you are lucky) from other manufacturers.
I wouldn’t mind color choice for focus peaking but my X-E1 is far better then when I bought it. And I was happy with it then.
I purchased the X-Pro 1 knowing what it was at version 1.0… Since then they provided a huge increase in performance and features.
At this point Fuji doesn’t owe me anything… especially colour focus peaking
Fuji doesn’t owe you anything.
Fujifilm fixed the broken in-camera raw converter for most except for the ORIGINAL X100 users. Those people, you know the ones who created the X camera hype, were royally shafted by Fujifilm. That has not gone unnoticed.
Fuji doesn’t owe us anything…but I too am disappointed that we haven’t gotten color focus peaking.
Vu, Fuji doesn’t owe you ANYTHING. In fact, you should apologize in writing to Fuji. Out of all the camera companies out there, it seems Fuji leads in listening to the customer.
The X-pro 1 is how old, -yet STILL gets updates?
I swear, give a fat kid a cup of ice cream and he wants the whole tub! You should be lucky to even get Focus Peaking in the first place! The Panasonic GH3 didn’t get it, Numerous DSLR’s didn’t get it, but you think you do, just because you made a purchase?
Get outta here.
As a Fuji X-T1 shooter… No complaints. At least two of the fixes are VERY welcome updates (EC values and Movie Button pause)!
i need intervalometer please ( xe1 user)
Where is the color focus peaking for the xpro1? !
Was there color focus peaking in the feature list of the x-pro1 when you bought it?
No, but autofocus was …. 8-P
Could anyone who upgraded its X-T1 tell whether the upgrade erases the custom settings or not ? Thx in advance !
Also, anyone tested if, by any chance, Fuji had fixed the ugly high ISO waxy skin effect in JPEG with this update ?
Happy groundhog day!
Again and again and again : Please Fuji :
-Add Full manual controls in video mode
-Add 25P mode for the pal users (X-E1/X-e2)
And for a big bonus :
Improve the video quality : better bitrate / better codec
Intervalometer for x-e1, x-pro1, x-e2
Color focus peaking for -e1, x-pro1
Thank you !
I mean :
Add 25P mode for the pal users (X-E1/X-PRO1)
dont forget 3 stop exposure bracketing
And I still can’t understand why I can’t chimp on the rear and compose in the evf… Seriously Fuji the X-E2 is the only camera that is missing this… WHY!?
Because Fujifilm listens to their customers. As we are nauseatingly told over and over and over.
I have a feeling they won’t be adding new features to the X-E1 anymore, with the exception of support for a new lens.
Fuji, you owe me nothing. However every improvement you make to the camera I bought (X-E2) makes me more confident in continuing to buy Fuji in the future. Every software item that is not used bluntly as a marketing segmentation or strategically make me need to buy a different camera means you respect me as a customer.
If camera manufacturers think more like that then the development model will also become more uniform and we’d see camera software that gets better and better in even more ways.
Having said that, intervalometer, remote shooting, vertical EVF rendering, split EVF (yes, I know the X-T1 EVF is bigger, but it’s the same exact resolution) – all are software features that to my understanding could come to the X-E2 and delight us X-E2 customers that prefer the form factor of the camera, not wanting to buy the internally almost-identical twin X-T1.
Of course, this is ridiculous. A company having to update the FW of all cameras ever built at each new lens release… or it just won’t AF right? I’ve been telling from the beginning: there is something serious wrong in this X-series camera/lens FW-concept. This is no Kaizen, but pure damage control. What over a few years, when I would buy a new lens, would there still be an update available for today’s camera? Fuji, anyone out there who can answer that question? Or do you just expect us to buy a new camera every year? Well in that case, I ditch my X-series back in favor of that old DSLR having the comfort of working with 55 years old lenses at a glance.
That’s a pretty cynical way of looking at it. Yes, everyone predicted that having frequent software updates would be a potential burden. But as cameras get more sophisticated there will be a trend to do this.
I don’t think ditching the concept of updates is the right answer. I think it’s in simplifying the deployment of updates. There’s too much potential in the camera to forgo updating.
Your analogy to Nikon is not entirely fair. They’re the only ones who haven’t seriously changed their mount (yet). Sony ditches mounts every few years. Canon had major mount changes. No one’s forcing you to upgrade or update.
People need to look at all the pros and cons of a system before buying into it. Complaining on a rumor forum doesn’t really accomplish anything.
I’m not so sure. Fuji has a not so nice history of (both commercially & technically) failing concepts and camera ranges. When I bought myself into this X-series, I knew this, was also a bit afraid of it. After more than 3 years (I was a very early X-100-adopter), I’m still not feeling confident and the love/hate relationship with Fuji is still there. I don’t have a 100% trust in this system, something I had for years with my Nikons. The X-series give me a bit the same feeling as an italian car. Yes, everybody likes it. Beautiful design, interesting technical concepts nobody else has. But unfortunately, everybody also knows what to think next. And seeing that this same manufacturer keeps on supporting its compelling new technical concepts based on a not necessarily super-solid R&D is another story.
Y’know, you can always sell your Fuji equipment and go back to Nikon… Just an idea.
Designing an eco-system like Fuji has done with the X-series is far from being easy, but a long term sustainability should be the focus of any camera company. I’m for more than 3 decades in software management and I hardly encountered a few manufacturers that implemented such a complex product update strategy. It made me think quite a few times that versus competition, Fuji X is in fact far more a software concept than truly a fine mechanics/hardware development (what frightens me, electronics are not known for lasting). Fuji is clever: they pack each lens update with some other new mostly unimportant features to let it appear it is not just the lens causing this update, but in fact it is. This weird story seems all to be related to focusing right, the AF design in Fuji world has been a topic of criticism from day 1. At this moment, it’s quite easy: all X-trans cameras have more or less the same software and adopting the FW over the full range is likely not much more than managing some code. But once the 16MP will be abandoned for the X-Pro2 – likely with a new 24MP X-trans sensor, requiring also a completely different graphical processor, a different era
starts, a transplant of the true heart will require a completely different coding. Has anybody noticed that the famous ‘top model’ X-Pro1’ didn’t inherit any interesting functionality or improvements
recently, since there were some slight HW changes? There the obscurity has already started and I wonder how long Fujifilm will keep on supporting all of
the 16MPs when – say something – a 35mm MKII appears on the market? Vice versa, when I want to use a first gen lens on an X-series camera over a few years? Or are the Fuji marketeers wanting us to buy new,
and new, and new… over and over again? One can make jokes about competition but these FW upgrade strategies and dependencies are unseen in cameraland. Again this has nothing to do with Kaizen but is just a very questionable concept and possibly for us all a very poor investment. What concerns Nikon: I’m indeed using some magnificent AF-D lenses like the DC’s from the nineties on my D800 without flaw. With my X-Pro1, after 15 (?) FW updates I still have the feeling to have some kind of final prototype camera in my hands when I observe how quirks still kill many golden picture opportunities. Despite all those raving fan-stories I’m frequently meeting other X-Pro1 users and the talk goes each time in the direction of the bugs where we have to live with. I also know several very serious photographers that tried the X-way but sold it after a very short time. I’m not saying Fuji is bad but there is still a way to achieve a full maturity in this system and as a first priority they need to take the R&D and FW update concept more seriously. And competition is getting extremely sharp.
Yes, Fujifilm abandons not only camera ranges, but also sensor technologies. Everyone loves the X Trans, but that is only the latest in a long line of abandoned sensors from Fujifilm. Where are the SuperCCD’s from yesteryear? The Super CCD HR, SR, and SR II all were the greatest technologies at the time, but then abandoned by Fujifilm. Since the X Trans sensor is really just a Sony made sensor with some Fujifilm lenses on top of it, perhaps it will have a longer future. But i doubt it.
Yes, SuperCCD were the greatest, at least in DR in highlights and that kind of subtle, close to film image rendering.
But almost noone is using CCD sensors anymore for a reason. Fujifilm closed/sold their sensor fabs years ago.
CMOS is just better for video and noise (heat) and most of all – cheaper, that’s why even if CCD was superior in IQ at close to base iso – the world moved on.
As for the X-Trans – I don’t care, it’s just a generic sensor so they can use that X-Trans marketing gimmick or be back with Bayer, as long as it produces pleasing photos – I don’t care.
Hopefully they move on to a Fovean-like layered sensor, as bayer and Bayer-like sensors are not optimal, except perhaps for high ISO performance.
The story is that CCDs were overall delivering a better result than CMOS, which produced in the beginning a really ugly noise. Unusable for video, for a very long time. Sony made the change in a technological sense, and started also the marketing that CMOS was so much better than CCD. It was most of a lot cheaper to manufacture and some technical issues like dissipation were better under control – not unimportant for video, less for stills photography. But what makes even today the Leica M9 still an excellent camera? I think a lot of people would even be surprised about a Nikon D70, which had also an excellent CCD. Today’s resolution isn’t there, but all the rest is VERY ok. Well, a suggestion for the X-Pro2… a 24MP SuperCCD, isn’t that an idea? To be fair, Fuji has such a “secret bullet”… the organic sensor, but I’m more and more thinking it’s a kind of theoretical laboratory story than something we will see in future models.
Canon has ONE major mount change. Fujifilm has dropped entire camera lines without any replacements. Just look at how badly Fujifilm shafted their DSLR users. Those were PAINFUL days as people were waiting for an upgrade to the S5 Pro, year after year after year. Fujifilm NEVER once informed their customer base that they were out of the market, leaving them to *faithfully* linger for years.
They dropped it because Nikon stopped supplying bodies, simple as that.
Not to mention that producing S-Pro DSLR series was financially idiotic at best. They were selling camera bodies that they had to pay Nikon for them, then they needed to provide support for the camera and all the profits from the lenses and accessories (flashguns etc.) went to Nikon.
And people debated that topic (even with you) to death on various photographic forums for years.
He’s a troll, it’s not worth trying to argue or reason with him.
Some people don’t like to hear this… but unfortunately, Ratty Mouse has a point. Fujifilm has never been the most reliable company when it came to long term support of camera concepts & systems. As I already wrote, it has been my fearv from the beginning that Fuji X is just another breeze in Fuji world until newer, other ideas showed up and I still miss some kind of solid credibility this system is fully future-oriented and legacy-minded. When we all heard that XF-mount doesn’t allow FF, I’m getting this kind of feard again. Yes – the present fan-crowd will say that FF is not important, but look at Sony, Leica,… but also the top DSLR’s – if Fuji ever fully wants to belong to this league, it will be inevitable to move into the direction of larger FF sensors. Pure competition-wise, the business will driven them so. If the concept doesn’t allow it… Fuji will forever be deemed to stay in the shadow of the big ones.
Look at his post history. He does have a point here and there but the vitriol and invective far outweighs the tidbits of truth.
I wish fuji would use the 36mp full frame sensor from the A7r in the X-Pro 2, as it would then be comparable in image quality to my DP Merrill. If they do so, it would be far better than the Sony A7r, which is prone to shutter vibration issues, and one of the best cameras available to date.
You know, I was just reading through about 100 of your posts. Given the consistent tone and everything it wouldn’t surprise me to find out that you’re a paid troll. And for all the zealotry you accuse people of you’re far far more zealous in your crusade to be negative.
Oh, the Internet is such a wonderful place! Just recently, people frequenting this blog made a discovery: sometimes companies “leak” disinformation to the rumor sites! Thanks to you, the next discovery is around the corner: there are helluva lot of shills of all kinds…
I don’t think there would be any major issues if you don’t do the FW upgrade for your body. Somebody should try. Probably some things won’t work as well but I am sure AF would work. Maybe a bit slower but it would work.
It won’t work with your 55 year old nikon lenses on today’s bodies, though. 😉 And you can also use those or any other on your X-camera by the way.
Seems Fuji has ditched the Kaizen mentality… no more upgrades for the X-E2. Shame. :/
Was really looking forward to the mobile app remote capabilities.
it’s a great day!
is there any particular reason why, there isn’t any firmware update for the Fuji X-s1??
It has neither Wifi for the Instax printer, nor can you mount the new 18-135 on it. 😉
The 3.30 update appears to have killed one of my Fuji X-pro1 batteries. It was working fine, installed fully charged to do update. Update ran and completed. Camera off then back on. Now the camera will not stay on with that battery even when it shows fully charged in changer. Another Fuji battery works fine and camera operates normally. — Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but wondered if anyone else experienced it.
quick question on the movie button thing..
so, you can still accidentally push it, but it will only take a little longer to start up and show you you pushed it accidentally?
OR
You actually have to push and hold the button longer to show you actually intended to really push the movie button on really wanted to record video?
it would make more sense the latter operability, otherwise, what’s the point in delaying movie start up if it still registers an accidental quick button press of that movie rec button?
Push and hold, japenglish translation.
thank you, sir, for clarifying how it should work.
a lot of times these update descriptions are a little bit vague in what and how updates work.
A pity they didn’t fix the Manual focus bugs on the XT-1: not allowing to change focus area size on manual focus and the worst one: the back button focus bug which on manual mode the AF-L NEVER locks focus, while it does perfectly on Continuous focus mode on half pressing the shutter. Making the “back button focus mode” a gimmick… similarly as the remote app for prolonged exposures which would have been a perfect workaround for the light leak.
This update seems to have resolved a bug with the XP1 and the 18-55 whereby <35mm FL had a real problem with designating infinity on the focus scale, preferring instead to inform me that objects over 50meters away were only 3 meters away!
