“New bridge camera is on the horizon with a 1″ sensor” (source: Amythest2112 – dpreview)

 photo X-S2_zps8i3iffvz.jpg

This summer I’ve spread a rumor about Fuji working on the first 1″sensor camer (possibly X-S2). It was a rumor from a 100% anonymous source (not even a nick-name).

So what about this rumor? Well, I haven’t heard anything since than and I started to be very pessimistic about this rumor (and I am still very pessimistic). But maybe, just maybe, there is still hope for a 1″ replacement to the original Fujifilm X-S1.

dpr member Amythest2112 said he had a talk with some Fuji Guys, who told him:

“I have been eyeing/following the X-S1 and HS59EXR for a while and am about to purchase one of them so I call Fuji about a UV filter on their site and I have it from a reliable source that a new bridge camera is on the horizon with a 1″ sensor like the Pany FZ1000 […]

The guy at Fuji is telling me that it should be around $600-800 in price and even though rumors have been circulating he told me his boss is talking about it which means in his opinion a %75 chance of it being true.”

I’ve received emails from fellow X-shooters, waiting for such a camera. I hope Fuji will fulfill their wishes. But if I were you, I’d still take… the grain of salt.

    1. the rumor is that the X70 will be out next year – I suspect mid summer to October – I really cannot see Fuji come out with anything less then a 1 inch sensor – there will have to be a new lens – so hopefully a 24-100mm F1.8-2.8 – I suspect it will be the X30 body – I suspect it will be a Sony 1 inch sensor – from the RX100m3 – which most think is also used by Panasonic and Canon – 20MP back lit –
It was a major flop I think to introduce the X30 with the X20 sensor and a larger body – I suspect it has not been a strong seller 🙂
and now with Sony with the RX100/m2/m3/m4 and Canon with G7X/G9X and Panasonic with the LX100 – all with 1 inch sensor or larger in smaller or similar size body –
So it will be interesting what the X70 will be like – will it have 4k etc – one thing I think Fuji needs to realize – Users like Touch LCD – we all use smart phones with Touch LCD and for the Purists it could be turned off – they need to learn from Panasonic as far as Touch LCD

  1. It would be logical, and Fuji would be capable to made the best inch superzoom in the market. With a reasonably fast manual zoom lens, phase detection AF, great EVF, weather sealing, fast operations and all X30 capabilities.

  2. Video has become a key feature in the 1″ superzoom camera. Unless Fuji ups their video capabilities then their superzoom would have a very limited market.

  3. sounds good – I do have the Canon G3X – I picked it over the Panasonic FZ1000 as it is smaller – so hopefully the new Fuji will be in that line – a mirrorless design not DSLR size and design 🙂 the Canon G3X has the 600mm focal length but a slower lens then the 400mm Panasonic FZ1000 – an it has no 4K – the FZ1000 has nicer menu and more features – but it has the DSLR look and size 🙁
The G3X has a nicer size – but no 4k and no EVF ( can buy one as an attachment )
so hopefully the Fuji will be the looks of the G3X or a Mirrorless style like the X-t1 or the Sony A7000 or Panasonic GX8 –
So 24-600mm at F2.8-4 would be awesome and EVF – and not large like a DSLR but a size like the G3X or Panasonic G8X body – and of course 4k video
But by the time it comes out I have a feeling Panasonic will be out with a FZ2000 soon after with 4k video – Tilt LCD – 24-400mm – Touch LCD and a bit smaller body ,weather sealed etc so Fuji will have some stiff competition

    1. The problem with the G3X is the lack of an EVF… that’s a dealbreaker for me. The weird way they did the flip out screen looks like it’ll break on first use, and still, way less useful than the fully articulated screen of my X-S1 or OM-D E-M5ii. I don’t really care if the X-S2 is DSLR-looking or Rangefinder-looking like the G3X (there’s no real mirrorless archetype: some favor rangefinders, some SLRs, a few even look more like P&S), but I want it to be at least as useable as the X-S1.

That said, I get the impression the X-S1 didnlt sell well. Maybe part of that was the “lens droop” problem on early models, ir the world just not being ready for an $800 bridge camera. So I can imagine more than the usual changes. Assuming this is real and all.

      1. I do own the G3X and I have the viewfinder for it – yes it does not have a built in one – I wish it did – but the EVF that attaches to the hotshoe is a nice EVF and is light and easy to put on – so if one lives in a sunny area then a built in EVF would be nicer and the FZ1000 might be the option to go – but I am in mixed environments – I do not mind carrying the EVF when shooting in sunny weather – as I always carry extra batteries anyway –

of course there are only the Canon G3x and Panasonic FZ1000 and Sony RX10/20 with the 1 inch sensor but really just the FZ1000 and G3X with the longer zoom – the G3X with 600mm and the FZ1000 with 400mm – but the FZ1000 has 4k and built in EVF etc – but is larger and has shower zoom – so a trade off –

The X-S1 does not have a 1 inch sensor and only has 12MP – so not up to par in low light and resolution

  4. I’m in! I bought the X-S1 on heavy discount. It was one of the first high quality, very SLR-like bridge cameras, and I don’t think most camera buyers quite knew what to make of it. I usually shoot on Canon full-frame and Olympus OM-D m43, but the X-S1 gets into places that ban “professional” cameras, and still delivers good results.

I’d like to see a little less zoom unless they can get the long end worth using, and even better, constant f/2.8. Don’t bother going to more than 16Mpixels, and I’m totally ok with the small DSLR size. The emphasis for an X series should be on image quality.
