Finally Online: the Fujifilm X100T review of riflessifotografici! Here an excerpt:
“I lately switched from the X-Pro1 to the X-T1 and sometimes I found myself thinking nostalgically to the “old” Hybrid viewfinder. This is not to say that the electronic viewfinder is not good, because it’s not true. The electronic viewfinder is what makes CSC cameras special since you can visualize what would be the final result before you push the shutter button. The thing is that, sometimes, photography is not necessarily rational. Sometimes instinct wins over thinking, the heart wins over the brain…sometimes you just touch a camera and it’s love at first sight…You either love it immediately or you’ll never love it. Again, this is not rational, but we all know it works like that.”

Thank you, Patrick, for mentioning my article on X100S! In my few spare moments I enjoy reading the other articles you talk about in this post.
Very nice article. I, too, think Fuji needs to provide its own bare-bones raw converter, as I have found the in-camera converter to produce the best results. If they don’t provide one like you suggested (an external storage device with an LCD and converter), they should definitely provide the option to convert the files to 16-bit TIFF using the in-camera converter or a bare-bones raw converter with the same algorithms used in the in-camera converter.
you can simply start using capture one.
I have Capture One. It is not as good for the conversion, though it is one of the better external raw converters.
Yes. I use it to tune but do conversion with LR. Latest version of LR seems to catch up with sharpness. I haven’t got time to compare carefully
Talking about the x100t article by riflessi fotografici, the point of view of them is clearly biased. They speak of the x100t vs x100 completely ignoring the existence of the X100S. They extol the excellent quality of the x100t sensor forgetting completely that it is identical to tge one of the X100S, the same for the image processor. X100S has the same hardware of x100t, except for ovf and firmware. the firmware .. Fuji decided arbitrarily not to make available firmware x100t also in X100S. This is the main reason for my loss of confidence in Fuji
Th pixel-for-pixel showdown just goes to show that specs are one thing and output is another.
It would be a better comparison if compared with A7r, which has a similar pixel density with xt1
Don’t quite understand why crippling one of the cameras (by putting the Sony into crop mode) makes this anything but a very limited comparison.
It tells us just how good the Fuji is for an APS camera, but it shouldn’t be taken as a fair comparison to the Sony in practice unless you would normally buy a full frame camera and only use it at half of its capability.
I think it only goes to show that the x-trans sensor/x-trans interpolation indeed does have some benefits over bayer/bayer interpolation, especially in how it handles color noise and moire, and it’s a pretty good demonstration of that, but nothing more. Sony makes both sensors after all, right?
Lol, if people believe that XT1 vs SonyA7, wake up.
I used XPRO1 for several years and replaced it with Sony A7 for more resolution for large format printing. That thing is freaking sharp.
Just download my test image, it has moré because of to much details/sharpness in the building, luckely easy to fix in lightroom. It’s the only photo i have shot where you can see moiré, used it before to send to somebody to check what the hell it was.
RAW + Adobe ACR + Capture One without extra sharpness:

Agree. I shooted with A7 + Zeiss C/Y lenses and files were simply amazing compared to Fuji X-E1/X-E2/X-T1 I used. I found useless comparings of APS-C 16MP vs FF 24/36MP because files from FF and futher more with higher res stay on complately different level, X-Pro2 will not change it. I can only imagine now how amazing images A7rII may bring.
Franky, franky, franky. last year you said this: “I just sold all my dslr gear and moved to Fuji for superb image quality”
1 year later it’s only good enough for small prints and the web?
Lol, you are just a camera ho, you are not a photographer.
I cannot wait for the A7sii to be released so I can pick up a mk1 on the cheap.
Two thoughts on that X-T1 vs. A7R comparison:
1) Such a comparison is rather useless. Not because he uses the crop mode of the A7R, that is actually a pretty interesting test to see whether the X-Trans II sensor really is outdated in pixel-level performance. It’s useless because it’s so obvious that RAWs are never the same. Fuji obviously performs some processing on RAW files and Sony probably does as well though not as obviously to my eyes. So files need to be processed (especially with colour noise reduction) to see what a sensor really is capable of. But if those images are real I am surprised as at ISO 6400 the Sony really loses those black distinctions and just becomes one strip of black. Could that have to do with the 11-bit RAW?
2) There seems to be no clear difference in exposure (except the overexposed one, where the Sony is clearly brighter). In some images the Fuji actually looks brighter to me. So what about that thing with Fuji stating wrong ISO values? Or has Sony joined them? My X100S is definitely darker at the same ISO compared to my D7000. Has anybody else compared these?
Anyway, good time to be a photographer.
For what it’s worth, I’ve found that when using my X-Pro 1 as a meter for my film camera, treating ISO 200 as ISO 160 gives me the most accurate results, which would mean it has a 1/3rd stop “cheating” difference. Not that it really matters all that much.
1/3rd stop is irrelevant to me me and should be to anyone. Our beloved Velvia 50 is also better used as ASA 40 and nobody ever complained about Fuji cheating back then 🙂
Compared to my D7000 I found about a 2/3rd stop difference (X100S that is). Didn’t use the same lens obviously so that will make some difference as well.
That must be another Franky 🙂
I used XPRO1 for 3 year and about 3 months ago i switched to A7.
Small prints are for me 90x60cm 240-300dpi, for my style of photography that was absolute the maxium with fuji.

To each his own, but do you really need to print snapshots bigger than 90x60cm?
snapshots??? or are you referring to that test image? 🙂
