Good news! Times are over, when google translator put together some words in English and tried to translate the great riflessifotografici reviews (btw, thanks google for this useful tool). From now on, Luca Petralia will write the English versions of their articles. I wish Luca good work and would like to express thanks for all the effort he’ll put into the translations. Read the offical announcement here (with the first translations – X20 first impressions and X100S first impressions).

And for the first XF 55-200mm sample shots click here (you’ll see also the 100% crop of the image above).

check the in stock status of the 55-200mm lens (preorder at Adorama (click here), BHphoto (click here): and DigitalRev (click here).

  1. A big thank you to Riflessifotografici for the English versions. (If I tried to express thanks in Italian It might come out as “my mother is an onion,” so I won’t try).

  2. grandi riflessifotografici 🙂 il sistema fuji mi sembra stia diventando un punto di riferimento, chissa’ dove arriveremo, per ora non ne sbagliano una!

great riflessifotografici! the fuji system seems to becoming a point of reference, who knows’ where we will arrive… they never did a mistake for now!

  3. $700 for a standard 55-200mm zoom?

    big lenses on little cameras?

if you make a small EVIL-type camera what it is the reason for a big lens?

    7 blade, not 9.
    no fixed aperture 4

i think it’s not correct to say….”point of reference” for this lens

  4. I think that $700 is right in the ball park, personally. The demo shots look promising, although I was expecting more detail in the hair, but this could be DOF and/or lighting. These images are not as razor sharp as the 14mm, but I am looking forward to seeing more images from it, before drawing any conclusions.

Great to see Fuji bringing out quality glass for the X cameras.

      1. Nonsense.
That’s like saying someone shouldn’t buy a 200-400mm zoom for their DSLR because of the size disparity between lens and body. This isn’t a contest to see whether mirrorless can retain some predisposition to body/lens ratios that aren’t prevalent in other systems.

These will sell well, because they allow someone who needs the longer shot to get it without needing a DSLR or super-zoom. It’s not going to end up being the on-body choice for a street photographer looking to be discreet (but then again, neither is the X-Pro1 and 14mm lens combo).

Same goes for the 10-23mm wide-angle lens — once released, we’ll have 3 zooms covering a focal range of 15mm – 300mm in a smaller-than-dslr-equivalent package. For those who balk about the size of 55-200 you also have shooters on here who are bemoaning the lack of a 300mm f2.8 prime, which would likely be even bigger — and far less likely to be produced for the X-system.

For those who NEVER, EVER shoot in the 80mm – 300mm range, why knock this? Just use your < 55mm lenses and he happy. Otherwise I think this is a nice round-out to the zoom system, especially for the money.

And for those who'd pixel-pee on a set of sample photos I'd say a Nikon D800e and a 70-200 f2.8 lens for about $4000+, or maybe a macro lens mounted on a tripod with perfect lighting and mirror lock-up is the way to go if seeing split ends in someone's hair matters matters that much.
