I just got a tip (thanks) from an anonymous source with nick-name, who told me that the Fujinon XF 16-55mm f/2.8 WR lens will be announced on January 6th. For now take it with the mandatory grain of salt.
As always, I’ll be here on FR to make a live blogging about this lens: wherever on the world-wide web there is something worth to shared and known about this lens, I’ll let you know about it in real-time through the live blogging.
And of course, if you want to pre-order it, you can do it using one of the affiliate links featured here on Fujirumors. You’ll support this blog with no extra costs for you. Any help is appreciated.

It will be an excellent lens from an optical point of view no doubt/for sure but nevertheless as exceptional as the glass will might be optically the OIS is definetely THE missing piece for being legendary/innovative esp. it will be the bread and butter lens for most enthusiast and pros using fuji gear……
I would still prefer two or three primes than this zoom esp. without the ois….
While I agree with your OIS point… Since when normal zooms are “bread and butter”?
I agree, bred doesn’t stick to the lens anyway and butter makes the focus ring too slippery…
Agreed. OIS is absolutely essential on a modern lens like this, especially without an IBIS technology in play. I wonder how many new Fuji users will be dissuaded from entering the system due to this glaring oversight. I know it will be keeping me away until some kind stabilization is implemented.
As a lot of people, I prefer to wait for the version with optically OIS
No OIS, NO buy for me
Sorry Fuji, I think you played it too safe with this lens.
There is no real need for a OIS for such wide angled lenses.
Also from a design point of view Fuji OIS would make this lens more heavy therewith OIS might actually be counterproductive.
OIS is nice to have but if shooting in that low of light that subject movement at F 2.8 will kill the sharpness so a fast prime is the only thing you need? So for me no OIS won’t be a game changer just drop the 35 1.4 on.
Without the OIS, the lens is completely useless for me: it doesn’t have _any_ advantage over 3 primes I already have. It is 2 stops slower, much bigger and presumably very expensive. I will definitely NOT buy this lens.
If rumoured price is correct, I would rather have old used kit zoom and 2 primes, or the 18-135mm. It is not the lack of OIS, it is just that 16mm is not that different then 18mm and f2.8 or f4 on the long end is not that much of a difference. of course I am sure this lens will be much much sharper and have better optics plus weather resistance, but it is just too expensive to justify, I would rather get x100t for that money.
The primes do not have OIS either, so why bother? Looks like everyone suffering from parkinson these days, in the old days OIS was done with a tripod. It’s weather sealed, it’s a “3 primes in one enclosure” design with prime quality. Fuji didn’t wanted to compromise on image quality, that’s more important to me than having OIS. So yes, besides my 23 1.4 and 56 1.2 this one is definitely going to join the rest of the XF family.
– 4 primes in one (16, 23, 35, ’60’)
– WS
– prime quality
This is what I need on a journey.
I will buy it as a kitlens with X-T2 for sure, if it costs together not much more than 2 T€.
I would have bought it with the X-T2 as well, except only if it had OIS! The only thing that can save this is if a Version II will soon follow, or if the X-T2 comes with IBIS.
I really would love to see this lens. What would the rumored price be?
My guess will be 999 or 1199 euros.
So selling my 18-55 would ease the pain a little..
