XF 16mm f/1.4 + XF 16-55 f/2.8 WR

Not only Adorama is the first store to have the XF 50-140 f/2.8 WR already avaialble for pre-order at $1,599, unveiling all the specs even before the official announcement, they are now also the first store listing the Fujifilm XF 16 f/1.4 and the XF 16-55 f/2.8 WR lens (there is a typo at Adorama, as it is the 16-55 WR, and not 18-55 WR).

But, unlike the 50-140, this time Adorama didn’t leak neither the price nor the specs. Adorama says that both lenses will be available in 2015.

Check out the Fujifilm XF 16 f/1.4 here and the XF 16-55 f/2.8 WR lens here.

Oh, and dear Fuji, you can decide, DOA or OIS. The poll is pretty clear! We want an 16-55 with OIS (as shown also at Adorama).

Have you already heart some rumors about the price of both lens i am guessing 1199 for the 16 1.4 and 1399 Us bucks for the 16-55 2.8 WR at least….if you havent heard anything what do you think personally/guessing/expecting?

        THX!

          1. Patrick, Thank you very very much for keeping all of us Fuji users updated. Make sure you don’t over do the site and burn out completely! Take some time off if you need to. I hope this site will be sustained on the long term. Of course I am supporting you via your purchase link when investing in new Fuji gear!

          2. I often walk on the thin line that separates passion from burn out! Let me see for how long I can balance on this thin rope 😉

And thanks a lot for your support ECH!

  1. Hopefully as Adorama wrote with OIS…..otherwise huge bummer, big mistake, not comprehensible…..its the standard zoom ,the bread and butter lens ……most used pro lens….please fuji do it liek the pro tele zoom and the wide angel zoom with ois!!!

Let us cross fingers, pray, hope and wait……and everybody visiting photokian tell them you want this lens with OIS….otherwise it is definetely not comprehensible and you have to rethink if you gonna buy it….customer pressure is always good….it does not harm to tell them…so please be proactive if youre not visiting photokian write the headquarter fuji japan an email……you can try (and often do) more than you may think…

    1. Come on, there is the 18-55 with OIS already. OIS only really helps with hand-held snapshots. If you want to shoot people, going below 1/60 will require them to freeze. So no candids. And for architecture or landscape you can just as well whip out a tripod.

On the other hand, maybe this means the X-Pro2 will come with IBIS that so many people called for. But I am not a big fan of that either.

  2. That Adorama link is for a 18-55mm WR f2.8 lens. It even has appropriate 35mm equivalents for 18-55mm in the item name..

    Typo or something else?

  3. What is with 18-55 range on the Adorama link? It probably just a mix up.

Nonetheless, what I think would be a very good move is to weather seal the existing 18-55 2.8-4 lens! It would be a great compliment to hopefully an ongoing line of weather resistant bodies. The 18-135 is a great lens but some including myself would prefer the speed of the 18-55 over range in a weather resistant all around zoom.

    1. so maybe a new 18-55 WR with OIS and no OIS in the 16-55 2.8 WR Pro standard zoom hopefully not…..otherwise the 16-55 will be an upcoming shopkeeper and the majority of potenntial 16-55 buyers will go for the new WR 18-55….oh fuji hopefully both have ois….

          1. I guess it depends on your definition on pro-grade… I meant the top of the line Full Frame 24-70 for 1500,- and more. The Nikon is already quite old and who knows, maybe the next will be VR. But Canon stuck to no stabilization when they released the new version in 2012 i believe.

          2. In a common sense, there are no “pro grade” APS-C lenses from neither Canon nor Nikon. However, Fuji was smart enough to not declare any of their lenses as being “pro grade”, so we’re talking “constant aperture f/2.8 normal zoom” here, not a mythical “pro grade”. Do they exist? Sure.

As of my definition of “pro grade”, it’s very similar to my definition of “portrait lens”. A portrait lens is any lens that I shoot portraits with, wether it’s being a 300/2.8 or the 8mm fisheye. “Pro grade” lens for me means any lens that is suitable for paid assignments. For example, Canon’s 50mm f/1.8 “plastic fantastic” can be easily used as a “pro grade” lens… of disposable variety: if it breaks, you just toss it in a trash instead of repairing.

          3. More interesting question would be: do pros complain/care, that the very expensive 24-70/2.8 FF Canikon lenses don’t have stabilization?

          4. As far as I know, the answer is no. But I know of a few Nikon pros who have switched to DX for the weight savings sake… and they are extremely unhappy about the fact that Nikon’s normal DX zoom offering does not have VR, yet Canon’s does.

Wishful thinking: I’d love to see a 16-55/1.8 OIS Fujinon someday (Sigma has a f/1.8 normal zoom, and Canon has IS, so it is possible and doable).
