Fujifilm X-T4 vs X-T3 Overheating Tested

The Korean youtube channel EnnaTV tested the heat generation during video recording on the Fujifilm X-T3 and Fujifilm X-T4.

He tested it on three cameras set like this:

Test Cameras and Settings

  • Cam 1: X-T3 with 4K30p with H265 codec
  • Cam 2: X-T3 with 4K60p with H265 codec
  • Cam 3: X-T4 with 4K60p and IBIS enabled and dual recording with H265 codec

And now the test:

Indoors at 27 degree Celsius (80.6 Fahrenheit)

  • X-T3 @ 30p: Warning Never Shutdown Never – runs for as long as the battery lasts
  • X-T3 @ 60p: Warning 21:20 Shutdown 29:34
  • X-T4 @ 60p: Warning 17:50 Shutdown 23:03

Indoors at 31 degree Celsius (87.8 Fahrenheit)

  • X-T3 @ 30p: Warning 40:06 Shutdown Never – runs for as long as the battery lasts
  • X-T3 @ 60p: Warning 14:32 Shutdown 20:31
  • X-T4 @ 60p: Warning 13:58 Shutdown 17:44

Outdoors under the early summer sun (he says he was sweating by just standing there)

  • X-T3 @ 30p: Warning 11:21 Shutdown 21:22
  • X-T3 @ 60p: Warning 6:18 Shutdown 10:34
  • X-T4 @ 60p: Warning 4:15 Shutdown 8:46

Not bad at all, that the Fujifilm X-T4 can stay always close to the X-T3, despite squeezing an entire IBIS unit into a body that is almost the same size of its predecessor.

With that said, as EnnaTV himself says, he hopes that the heat management on the future Fujifilm X-H2 will be so good, that there will be a substantial improvement, maybe even no limit at all.

Btw, he filmed it on a Samsung NX1, which never shut down during the test.
