Fujifilm Discontinues X-H2/X-H2S Grips as Cameras Slowly Vanish from Stores — Should You Get Hyped About the X-H3?

Phasing Out…

We know the Fujifilm X-H1 was not exactly Fujifilm’s biggest commercial success.

So much so that, shortly before it was phased out, Fujifilm offered an insane deal on the X-H1, including a heavy discount on the camera itself, a free vertical battery grip, and even three batteries bundled in.

Now, the Fujifilm X-H2 and X-H2S are already about four years old, the sixth-generation Fujifilm platform is just around the corner, and many were hoping for a similar end-of-cycle super deal on these models as well.

But it looks like that won’t happen, because the Fujifilm FT-XH vertical file transmitter grip and the VG-XH vertical battery grip have now been discontinued.

I understand the discontinuation of the FT-XH, which has become largely obsolete since Fujifilm’s April 2024 firmware update, which enabled Frame.io uploads without the need for the FT-XH file transmitter grip. The only remaining advantage is faster upload speeds compared to in-camera transfer.

However, the discontinuation of the VG-XH is far more surprising.

In any case, now that Fujifilm is no longer producing both vertical battery grips for X-H cameras, some retailers have already permanently run out of stock — such as B&H Photo’s FT-XH and VG-XH. Other retailers still have limited remaining stock.

If you are looking for one, it may be wise to act sooner rather than later. But again, in case go for the cheaper VG-XH, as the FT-XH offers no real added value anymore.

I suspect the best deals we will ever see on the Fujifilm X-H2 and X-H2S were those from Black Friday 2024, when Fujifilm bundled a free vertical file transmitter grip and a CFexpress Type B card with X-H2/X-H2S purchases. I hope I’m wrong, but I doubt we will see anything that strong again.

Fujifilm X-H3?

And here is one more thing: we reported how back in January, online camera store Moment removed the Fujifilm X-H2S from their shop.

Well, they have now removed also the Fujifilm X-H2 from their offering.

So what, are not only the grips, but also the Fujifilm X-H2 and X-H2S discontinued?

And more importantly: does this mean Fujifilm is about to launch the Fujifilm X-H3 or Fujifilm X-H3S – or even merge both lines into one Super X-H3?

To my knowledge, the X-H2 and X-H2S are still in production.

Sure, after 4 years since their launch, Fujifilm has scaled back production and supply might not be as steady and realibale as in the past. But Fujifilm is still producing them.

Maybe sales volume for Moment is just too small at this point, so that they stopped ordering new units from Fujifilm.

As far as the Fujifilm X-H3 and X-H3S goes, there is not much I can say about it for now, besides the anonymous rumor I have shared here. But at this point I’d be surprised if they’d drop before the Fujifilm X-T6.

So yes, I am aware of Fujifilm X-H3 speculations and fake “rumors” spreading all over the web. Don’t trust any of them.

FujiRumors will get you hyped, but only when the true moment for celebration has come. And my impression is that the Fujifilm X-T6 will come before any Fujifilm X-H3 camera.

But hey, if anyone out there has evidence that I am wrong, if you know the X-H3 is coming soon, even before the X-T6, then you know how to contact me – also anonymously – and we can talk about it ;).
