    1. I prefer the look and it looks to have a nicer grip material (not shiney). Though does look quite a lot like the E-PL7….

          1. its a fail. small sensor large body small amount of megapixels, priced relatively high, who is going to buy it? you can get a XE1 kit for close to that price and XA1 kit for cheaper. XA1 kit has normal APSC sensor. Neither is pocketable so there is no size advantage, except with cheaper XA1 you can add more lenses later and the picture quality is from a different planet.

          2. Add an equivalent focal range (28-112mm equiv) on to one of those cameras and you have a MUCH larger camera that you can’t just chuck in your back pack. Think about it…

          3. If you cared to read the previous comments you’d see I was referring to the idea that you can get a similar sized APSC camera with a long lens. You can’t.

In this context, your comment of “so what” makes no sense.

        1. At $700, it is 7/8, not 2/3. And by the time it is for sale, probably 1:1 to the Sony or some upcoming 1″ Panasonic etc.

      1. RX100 is a traditional compact camera shape, this isn’t. Fuji make compact camera shaped cameras (see the XQ1), this isn’t it. It would fit very nicely in a day bag or top of a backpack, or round your neck (just like it’s predecessors). The point of these models is a smaller alternative to a DSLR or mirrorless camera (and it is much smaller when you take the focal range into account).

        1. I used to own X20 before the flash stopped working. I also owned XA1. The size difference between X20 and XA1 is arguable. In fact XA1 body is probably smaller than X30. The lenses are longer true, but the picture quality is so much better! And for cheaper!!!! The focal range of 28-112 is pedestrian at most, and having the 2/3 sensor, not much separation between background and the subject is going to be happening. My prediction is that this camera will fail because I just don’t see market for it. I’d like to be proven wrong, because I am a big Fuji fan, but this one is fail. On the other hand if Fuji can find a way to make a X100 body with, say 35-70/2.8 zoom lens (and keep it relatively small) that would be a very interesting camera.

          1. Again, you’re ignoring the lens size. For the size of the X20 28-112 you could get half a 27mm fixed focal length.

28-112 is a really useful range, it covers most things you need in a travel camera! Unless you wanted a tiny sensor superzoom or a monster bridge camera, this range is where it’s at.

What do you think an X100 with zoom would look like?? An X-E1/2 with kit lens. No point, especially if you’re insisting on 2.8 throughout. You can’t change the laws of physics… Your arguments just don’t make any sense.

          2. Looks like the target for X30 are newcomers to Fujifilm system, other than x10/20 style-lovers. Fuji fired X10 to certain tastes, now X30 is for a bit different customer taste.Thats the only difference for it still has 2/3″ so it will not get current X20 owners (or me x10 owner) I think. This is just a cosmetic move.

x30 doesn’t appeal to me with the look, or what is worse, with a sensor to go for it.

  1. I feel sorry for those who will buy it first! Remember those X-T1 with the light leak and badly designed keypad?

    1. That “light leak” is an internet hype thing. The number of people who would actually run into that issue in practice is negligible, considering that you’d have to shoot long exposures in low light with the cover open and a bright light source shining into it. Without the internet, I doubt people would have even noticed this even existed. The reason that Fujifilm fixed this is probably because people demanded it, not because it was an issue that really needed fixing for most folks.

Also, they updated the earlier runs that had the “light leak” and the buttons free of charge if you sent in your camera. I don’t see why there would be a need to feel bad for the people who bought early ones and I really don’t see how you could criticize Fujifilm for the way they handled the situation, considering that other manufacturers would likely not even have improved the buttons in later production runs and just left them the way they are since the cameras would have sold anyway and since the improvement implicitly acknowledged it as an issue. If at all, you could criticize them for not doing enough practical testing with real world users beforehand so they would have noticed the buttons issue. The light leak hype is something that nobody in any camera company would have been able to anticipate.

Besides, buying a camera at the beginning of a product cycle is just not a good idea anyway. Not only is there not enough time for other people to find potential longterm issues that might be problematic for your work, it is also not very smart from a financial point of view since it is its most expensive at that point (unless it changes your workflow so drastically that adopting it earlier pays off in other areas, but the X10/20/30 isn’t a camera that is going to be used too much in professional environments anyway).

  2. It looks ok, but I think I’d prefer the all black version. The silver ones always look like they’re trying a bit too hard to be retro to me. The X100 is the exception in my mind because the VF window completes the retro look.

  3. Why do they center the EVF. I’d rather like to buy an X20.
I also hope they won’t make the same error with x100s successor (to quit OVF and recenter the viewfinder)

    1. I can’t believe you’d even think that. The Hybrid Viewfinder is the whole reason of existence for the X100, the main reason for its success, and Fuji’s own exclusive specialty, getting rid of it is like a car without wheels.

On the X30 they simply chose the 100% coverage of the EVF over the 85% of the OVF, because in this case of course they couldn’t have both and still get 120% coverage in the OVF as with the X100.

      1. I hope you’re right…
I’m the happy owner of a Fuji X100 and the only reason for which I bought this camera was its incredible OVF (even though I think they could do more, by improving the magnification, as I love the Agfa optima sensor viewfinder).

        1. I must admit I was the same. However after 7 weeks of travelling with it I could happily just have an evf (a better one than what my X100 has though)

    2. It’s still not centered (located 1/3 from the left) although it is a bit closer to the center compared to the X20 (where it was 1/4 from the left). Considering it’s still a small camera that should not be a problem for most people, owners of large or small noses 🙂

  4. I love the design of X30 (and all Fuji cameras). I am little bit disappointed there is no much of new features (it is ages since first rumors) instead of EVF although I did not buy X20 only because of its OVF. Can’t wait to try it!

  5. Buttons are all over the place! Don’t like it. I like things organized
like it was on the X20, as that was it’s main selling point. On the X-T1 at least they fixed that by adding the Drive and Exposure modes under the dials.

And the 80s-Modern look .. it’s fun on camera from the $1 store, but in this case the X20 just looked much better. Oh well at least
the horrible 4-way-button-dial is gone, man those things are annoying.

    1. In my opinion it doesn’t. To me, the X30 looks much cleaner and I don’t doubt it will be just as easy to use (have an X20 in the family).

  6. And the reason I would rush out to buy this cam is……(scratching my head). I cannot think of a compelling reason. I have too many cameras, but if I were to purchase a pocketable camera, this cam is not it. I can purchase an X10 on ebay at a bargain price or a Sony RX100 v3. Based on many sentiments expressed on this board, this cam is DOA.

    1. Why would anyone who is looking for a pocketable camera purchase an X10? XF1 and XQ1 are pocketable options. X10 is not. X20 is not. X30 is not. Nikon D4S isn’t, either. Must be a failure, too.

  7. Looks very good. I visited Barcelona last year and had the X20 with me. Size, zoom range, image quality and feeling was right. Only the inaccurate OVF was no fun – with a good EVF this problem should be solved.

  8. Te sony freaks must be bored with their camera to come here and bag the fuji. I have the first incarnation of the sony and find it a boring camera to use ……….. great technology but ………… yes we do have a but

    1. Yeah, the Sony fanboys have to find something to crow about. Kinda sad, really because all their comments could easily be applied to them when compared against Canon or Nikon.

  9. Don’t think this will tempt me to upgrade from my X10. The sensor would have to be bigger to do that, and I’m not mad keen on the new design.

    1. lol the x10 has such a useless viewfinder. if you will not appreciate the benefits of the x20 or x30 you should really stick to the first version.

      1. Maybe he hasn’t tried it. I know whenever I have a laptop/TV/camera/phone which I’m happy with and don’t have the money to upgrade, I try not to go out of my way to try the new versions.

But then someone will show me something fantastic they’ve done with the new camera, and I’ll think ‘if I upgrade to THIS camera, I will be able to take pictures this good!’. Of course, if you ask the guy how he got such a good picture, his answer isn’t “oh, this camera has 23 % faster Autofocus” or “without this flipscreen, I never would have gotten the picture”. His answer will most likely be “Oh, I saw something cool, and I had the camera with me”.

  10. Ok, let’s make a voting : who is going to buy X30 with 2/3″ sensor before LX-8 with 1″ sensor is introduced? 🙂

    1. I’m not in the market for either, or the Sony RX100. However, I’d probably go with the X30. Especially once cost is factored in.

    2. I didn’t wait for the LX-8 and bought the RX100 iii two days ago. For 1-2 hundred more than an X30, the image quality improvement and the size are more than worth it for me. I might regret it when the LX-8 comes out though

  11. How will the lcd flip up 180° over the eye piece? It appears it would have a difficult time clearing the eye piece since it sticks out.

  12. In the presence of 1″ compact present and coming, it is going to be a very tough sell at $700. Of course the fact that it does not look as good as the classic X10/X20 also will be a problem.

  13. Why people are bashing a Camera they haven’t used yet? Crazy! But really, I just sold my X100 to make way for a video centered camera like the GH4, and a compact to carry everyday and take snaps of my kid. I really loved my X100, I’m the beginning I used the OVF a lot, it was quicker for street photography, but with kids the EVF is better, period. The Sony RX100III seems very nice but it’s price… Ouch. I love the Fuji look, it’s more organic, reminiscent of negative film which I enjoy way more then the Slide film which digital tends to lean on. So yeah, I’m definetly getting the X30.

  14. I hope this picture is wrong. It is one ugly camera…. Such a shame because it was a beautiful little camera inside and out before. I know I know the outside looks have nothing to do with pictures. But Fuji has that cool retro feel in the line this just looks like a box. I just wish they would get serious for video then I could dump all other cameras

  15. Hmm… I definitely prefer the look of the X10/X20. This looks more like an Olympus Pen camera to me. I also prefer the look of the paint on the bottom of the X20 that says “MADE IN JAPAN”.

  16. I definitely won’t be upgrading… I might even pick up a spare X20. The flash pictures from this camera are better than those taken from any other camera system that I’ve owned, thanks to it’s leaf shutter and exposure calculator.

  17. I’m considering the Sony RX100 III (just sold my Fuji X10), but I’ll wait until the X30 and the LX8 will be announced.

I’m also looking for a camera that takes great videos, and the RX100 III seems fantastic. Do you think that the X30 could have good video quality? — it seems to me that Fuji doesn’t care much about video.

    1. It’s not like they don’t care but it’s certainly not a priority, so, don’t expect much. It’s also not their expertise, so it will take time until they figure it out what consumers need. They are aware though that there are people that want video, but I don’t really have much hope for any big stride so soon. Fuji needs to give users full manual control in video as much as different framerates, less rolling shutter, better codecs, so the list is long.

If you want video, you should really wait for the LX8, just like I am. Panasonic has been delivering more and more often in that front, so it’s really a matter of rumors becoming reality or not. LX8 should have better video, 4K, at least same specs as the FZ1000, possibly better and it has more range than the RX100MKIII. If rumors about less than 20MP are true, then it can have better IQ, less moirè, better low light and better video quality overall. If Panasonic is going for less MP, then they should choose one that matches 4K better than 20MP, less MP also means less rolling shutter, so, if rumors are true, the LX8 should be a great camera.

  18. I like a more “classic” look but I also like when a manufacturer takes a chance and try something different, I liked the angular design. But being a 2/3″ sensor, I’m passing on this one, I’ll wait for the LX8, had Fuji done a 1″ sensor camera, it would had been much more interesting. The EVF addition is nice and all but if the LX8 may have 1″ sensor, EVF AND more, why would I buy the X30? The X30 will probably be bigger than both RX100 and LX8.

    1. I am too waiting for the LX8 before deciding between the RX100 III, the LX8 and the X30. It seems that the big difference will be the price. 500€ vs 800€ is a lot.

        1. I think you are sleeping a bit, Canon just launched the G1X MKII with a 1.5″ sensor so I’m not so sure there will be such G17 with those specs. The G1X is not that huge, it has a nice range and good aperture, it’s probably the best Canon will offer in this premium compact market. That said, Canon is doing Canon stuff, not offering the best they can, just offering enough. Not the fastest AF, not the best video, etc. When it was announced I had some hopes, but then, after some reviews, I just reliazed that Canon will keep being Canon and I already disconsidered buying one.

          1. Nope, fully awake, a smaller G17 with VF, faster AF and a newer sensor would make my list. A G1X is to big and too slow AF. Granted, its unlikely Canon will come out with something competitive, but I can dream. Wait, maybe I’m sleeping again……

  19. I dunno, I think this has a nice mix of a sort retro/futurist look to it. It actually reminds me a little of my 70s vintage Fujica ST701 (I think that’s the number). My wishes are that it has an ND filter and perhaps an improved movie mode. I hope the lens is really the same, and not just the same spec, if that makes sense.

Also wanted to say, I see a few of you may be thinking of grabbing an X20. I’ve been thinking of one to replace my Sony RX100m2 (lack of viewfinder), but given some of the issues I see people having with Fujis*, I was concerned about Grey Goods. Some eBay posters really parse their descriptions carefully, and some are “casually” non-informative. The description read “Packaged for the U.S.” but when I asked directly about US goods and warranty, they told me it had an International warranty.

*(Not a Sony fanboy, just what I’ve seen. Seen a lot of issues posted with the RX100m3, as well).

    1. I just today picked up an x20 via bestbuy.com, which I very much doubt is gray market, or even grey market.

Why get one, with the x30 rumored to be appearing? I’m a fan of optical viewfinders, and the x20 is wonderfully light. Yes, the sensor is small, but wasn’t early black and white also grainy?

  20. I think it is an interesting evolution of the design. At least if the grey parts are really metal (like the X100s) and not plastic (like the M1), that would make a pretty nice piece of hardware.

But then all depends on the functions and IQ.
