ephotozine assigned 4 out of 5 stars to the XF55-200. The PROS of this lens are, according to ephotozine: Excellent performance at 55mm – Low distortion – Good build quality – Very effective optical stabilisation – Fast linear focusing motor. The CONS: Drop off in sharpness as lens is zoomed towards telephoto – May be a little pricey when compared to equivalent lenses for other systems. Check out the whole review, the graphs and samples here.

  1. Looks like a cracking lens to me. I’m desperately trying to be patient and wait until the price drops a bit, but it’s becoming harder and harder to do so!

  2. I own one but haven’t fully tested it yet – too busy earning money to pay it off. 😉 Would have been preferrable to have the sharpness skewed towards the long end of the lens, as the 18-55 is already fine at 55mm. BTW: I don’t know why the Poms are paying 600 pounds for this lens, when in US and Oz it’s $700.

    1. I see this kind of pricing quite often in Europe: take a US price. change dollar sign for euro, leave numbers the same…

So if this lens is $700 – this “means” it’s €700 in Europe… And according to currency exchange rate, €700 is £605. Bullseye!

  3. I tested mine at 200mm on a tripod against my Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VR 1 with an adapter. In my test the nikon at f/5.6, the sweet spot, was equal to the fuji at about f/7.1, about a stop or more closed down. Later that week, I sold my Nikon lens.

  4. I don’t know but my sample seems to be much sharper than the tested one.
Mine is as sharp as my 60mm Makro at 200mm focal length. And teh bokeh
is just lovely as all Fuji lenses I own.

  5. Today, I went on Photozone.de
I took all the MFT curves of all 70-300 for FF and 55-200 (or around) for APS-C, from Canikon, side by side and compared.
I didn’t find any lens to beat the Fujinon 55-200. “L” type Canon’s MFT is very close.
I know that’s not a strictly right way to measure IQ and sharpness, scientifically, of course, but it gives a good idea, subjectively. This 55-800 mm a really good lens ! I’m waiting Photozone review.
As I also can see on pics samples, it will be mine too in the time necessary to pay for it !
