  1. Weight comparison of <= f/1.4 Fuji lenses:
    16mm f/1.4: 375g
    23mm f/1.4: 300g
    35mm f/1.4: 187g
    56mm f/1.2: 405g

    1. If the price of that 16mm is higher than 56mm f/1.2 at launch, which at the moment is the best APS-C prime out there even rivalling FF equivalent lenses, what can we expect from that 16mm f/1.4 ?
It must be a juwel !

  2. NIKKOR 24mm f1.4
    – 620g
    – 90mm long
    – 77mm filter thread
    – The whole lens is made out of plastic.
    – More than 2000 dollars.

    FUJINON 16mm f1.4
    – 375g
    – 80mm long (56 f1.2 taken as the reference)
    – 67mm filter thread
    – weather sealed

Only the Leica Summilux wins in size (not weight), but it costs more than 10.000 dollars and reviews say its performance is far from the best Leica lenses. To me this 24mm equiv is sized more than correctly, and this focal length at this aperture, and being WR, make it the most exciting lens (for me). I need another job.

    1. The nikon is also weather sealed and it is a beautiful lens. Not sure if it us all plastic… and if it is then it’s really tough and durable.

      1. I have the Nikon lens!! Its 80% plastic outside…I paid 2000 GBPs for it. After using XF lens I feel most of the Nikon G series lens that I have are overpriced for what they offer….The same goes for all G series lens.

      2. Nah, just the outer shell, the internals are of course metal. And for the comparison to make sense he would have to compare it to a 24mm f2.1, but who cares about equivalences as long as we can believe that we get as much lens for less money:)

    2. It’s strange to watch this constant need of comparisons to completely different systems. The Nikon is built for a full frame system while the Fuji is for a crop one, so for a 1.4 aperture the former has to use larger filters.

Regarding the Leica, as a manual focus lens it can be smaller.

Fujifilm has a solid reputation as a lens maker and I see no problem to judge this lens just by its own merits.

By the way, the Nikon is far from being a “whole lens (is) made out of plastic”.

      1. Thank you! I wonder if this constant comparison to other systems is some kind of inferiority issue for people insecure about their choice of camera system… It must be.

  3. Ok its been removed again Damn it!!! Stop teasing me! Can anybody tell me how sharp it is wide open across the frame? Does it have a nice 3D look like the 35mm F1.4 R? Where can I see some samples? This is the second time I missed it!

  4. Wow. Photographers who put up reviews before NDAs expire are lame. Cheap trick to increase traffic numbers (same goes for Fujirumors).

      1. …Which means that the violators won’t get their asses fried in court, but still gonna get removed from that sacred “beta testers” list. Quite a high price to pay for a few thousands of non-targeted website clicks.

          1. Some people like Thom Hogan says it happens frequently, especially among the smaller camera companies. In other industries it happens from time to time. It’s a speculation anyway.

    1. so there are worldwide the first samples taken with this lens, and FR should not report about it? Seriously? It’s as easy as that: they don’t break the embargo, I don’t share anything 😉

    1. The speed is quite useful for astrophotography when you have to stay within the 30 second time limit. If it’s on a equatorial mount, then I don’t think speed is critically important.

      1. Or get something like the Vixen Polarie. Much easier than an equatorial mount and tracking that lets you get much longer integration times.
