_ _ _

Meyer Optik is back!

At photokina 2014 they showed some protoypes of upcoming lenses, and now the surprise: at their website here they say that there will be a Trioplan f2,8/100 mm for Fuji X coming in October. They use the old lens construction combined with modern lens coatings… and it’s made in Germany! No samples, no price, but they say:

“[…] we will offer it also for some Mirrorless Cameras, especially Fuji X and Sony NEX and also MFT.”

You can find samples taken with the older Trioplan at Flickr.

spotted by FR-reader Leet, thanks

  1. Thanks! ^^ I posted it on your FB page a few days ago, but this is probably a bad place for news.

They also say they use the the old lens construction combined with modern lens coatings. And they will produce it in Germany (if that is still meaningful today)…

  2. Would be nice if someone made some manual focus lenses with electronics to talk to the camera. Don’t mind manual focussing, do mind no metadata.

    1. Yes the myth of German manufacturing reliability is still being perpetuated. About 6 years ago the CEO of Mercedes formally apologised for the quality issues in their cars.

  3. Too bad it’s not for Mirrorless-only but also Canikon, means it’s gonna be
huge with all that empty space where the mirror would be.

  4. For 1,000 Euros you get outstanding Fuji glass + AF capability. Why bother a manual focus lens that’s too heavy, has no AF, and costs too much?
I bought two Samyang lenses that combined weren’t half that price. That’s a deal. But this one?

    1. Apparently sir, you are a non-believer in the myth of German superiority. Beware the prostraters. It is verboten to speak such ketzerei.

  5. My God, I had one of those deep in last century. Was a manual preset lens for my Praktica (you had to close the f/stop by hand to the preset value). It wasn’t a great lens, by any standard. I was happy when my Praktica destroyed its shutter (DDR mechanics) and I could change the lens to a (wonderful) Konica Hexanon for my Konica FP. Perhaps it had a beautiful bokeh, but nobody cared about it in those times. Getting exposure right was enough of a burden.

  6. That was and I’m sure will be an amazing lens. Fortunately they are also making it for the Sony mount too so it will be a proper 100mm instead of 160mm equiv. It’s a shame to use a lens like this on a crop sensor, probably their 50mm would be a better match. I suspect it will be expensive by Fuji lens standards, the old ones are.

    1. Dont be 2 sure about that. If its anything like their orestor 135/2.8, its a fantastic lens on film but has its limitations on ff digital. Its still sharp ofcourse and the bokeh is first class, but its a bit weak on micro contrast and it shows erratic behaviour in a lot of light conditions. With a speed booster, on the other hand, its a solid performerming portrait tele with unique character and outstanding bokeh.

So if you are a sony guy, the original on a nex+booster may very well be a better alternative than a new one an a7.

  7. the retro-trend waking up Sales-Marketing organisations to dig and re-package old lenses in a new package. We didn’t care then, I won’t care now. It’s a “toy”-Lens, as is the petzval or any other “back2thefuture” stuff.
I prefer new Lens-Design for normal photography over pseudo-recoated-new-in-effect-old-lenses, unless for experimental plans.
Anyway too expensive if beyond 400 EUR.

  8. I just hope they will release one with m42 mount so that I can use it with the Lens Turbo. 100mm on crop is too long for me…
