Best FAKE Rumor of the Week :: Unveiled – The TOP SECRET negotiation between Fujifilm & Sony!

 photo fake_zpsa3tlfvxm.jpg

I normally do not post the fake rumors I get on FujiRumors. But allow me to share one with you today, because I’d like to express my deepest gratitude to all those sources, Anonymous, New or Trusted, who shared correct information with FujiRumors in the past and helped me to find the right path in the thick fake-rumor jungle aimed to discredit this blog. Thanks… you’re my Virgil!

And now, my fellow X-shooter, I’m sad to tell you that it’s over! After years of galactic investments and terrific efforts to build up the best and most complete APS-C line on the market, this rumor written in stone unveils that… “Fuji is considering Sony’s interest in acquiring its mirrorless camera and lens business.”

Damn… our beloved retro-vintage manual control cameras will become PlayStations 😉

And btw,  thanks also to all those FR-readers, who didn’t share rumors, but links to news, curiosities, deals, reviews & what not… FujiRumors is more than “just” rumors and I appreciate any help I get.

cheers

    1. …and no firmware support. If by some miracle this rumor had any validity, I’d move back to Nikon as I’m sure they’ll have their mirrorless systems up and running by mid-next year, which would be fully compatible with all their F-mount lenses via an adapter of some sort, while they start to build out their mirrorless mount. A DF would keep me preoccupied while I wait though. Hell, give me a DF with an EVF and I’d be all over that tomorrow.

  1. Why would Sony care about Fuji ?. Fuji is just a small player. A small fish that likes to boast such as ORGANIC SENSOR … LOL.

    1. Cause Fuji owns patents that Sony would like to get their hands on. Simple as that. Fuji has an excellent design team for sensors and lenses. If Sony were to acquire them, then they could offer their own lenses that doesn’t suck and will be cheaper since there will be no Zeiss label.
But in reality I hope you have a salt lick on your shoulder as your read this rumor. Panasonic would buy out Fuji first as they’d want to keep all work on the organic sensor in house.

      1. What patents Fuji have that Sony wants as far as sensors and lenses ?. Fuji can’t make sensors they buy from Sony and just add CFA on top of it. What lenses ?. The ones that slowwwww like the 60mm macro ??. Panasonic is in trouble and they want to buy Fuji ?. I don’t think so.

          1. Great now you’re calling me names…that’s usually translate that you are just full of sh*t….you know nothing but bluffing like you know something…go back to your Fuji fanboy cave at dpreview.com. Bubyeeeeeee Loser LOL.

          2. Says the guy that has no idea’s how patents, licensing, and lawyers work. I see your mentally deficient name goes quite well with your mentally deficient thoughts. Write back when your balls finally drop and you obtain an IQ above 80.

  2. Patrick, I think you are Sony deep in yourself, most of your rumours are sony related and this one is the final nail on the coffin…Or else you could be someone who is desperate for attention!!

    1. And believe me… the day Fuji will stop buying its sensors from Sony, you will never read the word “Sony” here again. But since then, if you are interested to know which sensor will be in the X-PRO2, we have to talk about Sony, since they deliver it.

and in this particular case it’s not a rumor… it’s just a fake I got via email. We shared a good
laugh with SonyAlphaRumor guy Andrea when I shared it with him.

        1. We know nothing until it’s announced, but it seems the organic sensor is still a long way to go (at least according to FR). Fuji buys it’s APS-C sensors from Sony, and I haven’t heard anything reliable that this will change.

    1. and I thought that the real rumors are a lame attempt to drive traffic to this blog…

I always wanted to say expressed thanks especially to those sources, whom I can’t contact personally via email (becuase they use the rumor box). I thought it could be fun to give them an insight to the fakes I’m sorrounded with.

Sorry, but this post is for them… an public thank you. Some FR-reader might not appreciate it… but I hope the sources will

  3. A far more likely “guess” is that Sony will sell its camera division to Fuji. Sony is shedding unprofitable business units and while sensors are profitable, cameras are not. Furthermore the profitable sensors are those used in phones and cars NOT those for cameras. With the recent spinoff of sensors into a separate business unit, they left cameras in the unprofitable core of the company.

Looking purely at the trends in the camera industry, my guess is that Panasonic will buy the camera divisions of both Olympus and Fuji.

  4. There is too much overlap between Sony and Fuji mirrorless product lines. I don’t think there is incentive for them to merge. Also Sony is short of cash. I don’t think how it could happen. I believe other company which does not have APS-C mirrorless camera product line would be more interested in such deal, such as Nikon, LG, or even Apple.

  5. It would make sense that Fuji would team up with a bigger, more powerful company to deliver a serious boost in what their technological competences. They had this approach in the past, with Hasselblad and Nikon. Delivering in a mutual sense products and development that was interesting but in both cases the relationship got off the rails. Such clustered relationships sharing technologies are not uncommon even in this era – look at OIympus/Sony/Zeiss or Panasonic/Leica. I think in particular a Fuji/Samsung relationship could make a good match. Samsung can deliver the 28MP back-lit APS/C technology to Fuji – while Fuji can deliver a more credible photography manufacturer-identity and the right glass to Samsung (now a bit in the same corner as Sony was before they acquired Minolta, and Schneider-Kreuznach is having a name in a very particular corner, but not the mainstream consumer market). Nevertheless, there’s way to much silence in the Fuji rumor wave now. I hope that a good message is (still) coming. A profound disapproval of the market vs the next camera releases – the expectations are at a very high (A7-alike) level – could put the whole X-series future at stake to my feeling. What I’m already saying for a while now.

  6. This post caused me to consider looking into Fujis financials, they’re pretty good. I doubt if Sony could even afford to do something like this even if they wanted to anyway, they’re in the doldrums financially.

  7. I love sony but I am far from a fanboy as I am a fanatic for women art and music only. It is a dream of mine for sony and fuji to be one company. I prefer the design and quality to quantity ratio of the lenses fuji has compared to sony but I do lots of video so sony makes more sense for me, plus the sony bodies do not hold there value very well so I end up spending less money with about a year or less of waiting. Sony wont be buying fuji so next year I will just get a fuji and shoot FF with a A7rII or A7sII and apsc with a xt1 & a6000 unless the update comes out for the a6000 by then.
