FR-reader Martin searched in the internet especially for vintage bags for his retro syled X-series camera. It must have taken him a lot of time to look for all these bags and I’m glad to share his findings here. Thanks Martin. Here is his list. [as some of you noticed in the comments, the Billingham Hadley Small [shoplink 7724](click here)[/shoplink] is missing in this list. Last week we posted David’s review about this little-great bag. There is also the ThinkTank Hubba Hubba Hiney which is what I use and is the best bag for my x series kit (xe-1, xpro-1 and two lenses). I find that leather bags such at the ona Brooklyn are too heavy empty compared to the other materials.
yes, but Martin told me he looked especially for retro designed bags. It’s of course an incomplete list, so it’s good if you add your own findings in the comments.
Yeah sorry I missed the bit about them having to be retro bags. In terms of looks I prefer the ones Martin listed 😉
For weight I prefer the hubba hubba hiney.
I really enjoy your website, keep up the good work!
In that case, the Gariz bags/pouch/cases must be mentioned. 🙂

I didn’t see the Billinghams here. Their Hadley small – great choice for FujiX, IMHO.
it is indeed… wrote a specific post about it here http://www.fujirumors.com/review-billingham-hadley-small/
Agree, I also have the Billingham Hadley Small and love it. It’s amazing how much goes in such a small bag. I have the FUJIFILM X-Pro1, Fujinon XF 35mm F1.4 R, Fujinon XF 60mm F2.4 R Macro and the Fujinon XF 18-55mm F2.8-4 R LM OIS in there, my wallet, iPhone, iPad mini, spare batteries, ND filters, cable release, raincoat for the bag (it doesn’t have it but I took the one from a ThinkTank bag).
And it still looks small.
Couldn’t agree more. Not sure why this wasn’t top of the list?
Agreed. Bought one for my X-E1 kit based on the Fuji Rumors post, which arrived yesterday. An excellent classic bag, designed and made in England to the highest standards by Billingham (plug).
Hey GreyOwl, glad you got yourself the Hadley Small. Would be great if you could post your comment on my blog post too.
Your wish is my command. 😉
I’ve used the Think Tank Retrospective 5 for my X-Pro the last year and it’s perfect. It holds 3-4 lenses plus a lot of accessories. The model 20 mentioned in the text is big (I also use the model 10 for my 5DmkII w grip + 3 lenses). I also use the Billingham Hadley Small for the X-Pro, it’s just a bit smaller than the Retro 5.
I wholly agree. The ThinkTank Retrospective 5 matches the compact dimensions of the X-Pro 1 and allows me to carry three lenses with hoods, filters, tablet, and other small bits while still being compact. The 20 is a much larger bag more suited for a SLR than any of the Fuji X cameras.
I have two Wotancraft bags: the one showed in the article and a smaller version. They are unbreakable and beautiful. The service is really good too.
I just went through the process of evaluating several bags for my X-E1 kit before settling on the Domke F-803 (black). It’s a slim, classic design that has met all my expectations for comfort, capacity, and low-profile style. It does have that “notorious” snap clip, but I quickly mastered that and now actually prefer it to other velcro or buckle options I’ve tried. I did add an extra insert to structure the main compartment a bit more, but overall I’m very satisfied with this bag and would definitely buy it again. It’s hard to go wrong with a classic.
I also have the Domke f-803, but the J version with the additional compartment that holds my iPad or my 11.6′ laptop.
I like that it is slim but the padding is awful. I bought a $20 insert on eBay and now it’s supper padded. I fit in it my XE1 with the 18mm with the hood, my OMD with a lens attached and 3 more lenses. front pockets are big and there are also two more slim pockets on the flap, another pocket on the inside of the flap and a document pocket on the back.
It’s not the most beautiful bag but it’s the only one I found that is actually just in right size.
The Domke strap is OK but the rubbery grip of the strap tends to melt in high temperatures… I’ve ordered a different strap and still waiting for it.
I wish ONA would make a similar bag to The Union Street but a bit smaller.
i use a Domke f8 or Domke f3x depending on how much i want to carry
Awesome! Thanks for sharing
Love the Ranger city explorer 😉 #wotancraft
There are some lovely bags here, and I was very tempted to go for a Think Tank myself, but If you don’t want to spend silly money, I got a combination of these two for £50 GBP, and it’s a perfect match for me.

It’s almost exactly the same as a Billingham setup and less than half the price 🙂
There’s also the Hard Graft camera case:

the Wotancraft Ryker (out of stock):

and the Monochrom “dothebag” line:

I’d wait for the Fuji official bag. Looks great at $40. http://forums.dpreview.com/files/w/TS1600x1600?url=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8186%2F8392333991_872a935a0a_o.jpg&signature=NbOLOGB3JwdUZ34Rleqp0MAben8=
For my XE-1, I’m using the ONA Bowery bag:
http://www.onabags.com/store/small-goods/the-bowery.html
The Field Tan looks retro, it fits my camera with both zoom and 35mm lens (and miscellaneous extras), has a no-noise flap and is reasonably water resistant. It’s great for shooting light.
I use regularly lowepro slingshot passport
Thanks, guys.
i recently had to upsize my bag to take all the kit, and pulled out my Domke Little Bit Bigger.
I love the way it moulds to my hip. After 10 years it is still as bulletproof as ever…
I own 12 bags, and two backpacks. The one I find myself drawn to over and over is my Think Tank Retrospective 20 in the Pinecone color. I use it EVERYDAY instead of a briefcae, or messenger bag to go to and from the office. I carry my XE1 and two lenses in it in addition to my iPad and other stuff. When I pull out my dSLR’s (not that often these days) the D700, D800 and the gaggle of Nikon glass, and speed lights, it all fits in this bag. The strap is the MOST COMFORTABLE strap I’ve ever had. I don’t know what I would do without this bag.
Anyone tried this bag?

I’m currently tossing up between it and the GARIZ (thanks MRJ)

The Think Tank Retrospective 5, Domke F6 little bit smaller, Think Tank Mirrorless Mover 20.
Great bags. Billingham bags are overpriced bags that do not offer anything better than the other bags. It is a overpriced fashion bag with no added benefits.
I am wondering why the ONA Bowery didn’t make it onto this short list!
It’s a really nice, small bag I can fit in my Fuji X-E1 with 18-55, 35 and 14mm lenses, one of which is mounted on the body. The lenses don’t have individual padded compartments, but with the supplied microfiber lens bags and the charger stuffed in there, everything fits nice and snuggly and it feels very safe to transport them like that.
Overall a great looking bag of ideal size for some street photography.
