The Bad News…
According to several of our sources – including new ones (thanks!!!) – the Fujifilm X-T6 X Summit announcement in early September has been canceled.
To my knowledge, a new date for the X Summit has not yet been set.
Why Surprised?
In about 15 years of running FujiRumors, I’ve seen Fujifilm change announcement dates for upcoming gear countless times behind the scenes. So don’t get too worried about this one. It happens regularly, and this time it happened to the Fujifilm X-T6 as well.
And no, I’m not making this up just to defend myself against claims that I share fake rumors.
In fact, what I constantly see happening behind the scenes is something you’ve already witnessed in broad daylight.
Just remember what happened in 2023. Fujifilm officially announced an X Summit for April, but then, in March, our sources told us that the event had actually been canceled.
Many were skeptical of our rumor because Fujifilm hadn’t said anything publicly yet. But when April approached, Fujifilm eventually confirmed that the April X Summit had indeed been canceled.
So if Fujifilm can cancel an X Summit even after officially announcing it, then of course it’s even easier for them to change plans for an event that hasn’t been announced publicly in the first place.
Reasons for the Change
There are several reasons why Fujifilm might postpone a camera launch.
Sometimes they decide to make hardware changes. For example, Fujifilm once planned to release the ultimate X-T camera, but during development they opted for significant hardware changes and several major redesigns. The result was the Fujifilm X-H1, whose launch was pushed back because of those hardware changes.
Other times, the reason can be production or software issues.
But I’ve also seen launch schedules change for entirely different reasons. For example, if Fujifilm has two cameras that are too similar and planned for release too close together, they may decide to increase the gap between the announcements to avoid them competing with each other.
Also, the fact that the Fujifilm X-T5 has already been marked as discontinued at the official Fujifilm Japan store could indicate that Fujifilm may be facing shortages of certain components. As a result, they might have decided to stop X-T5 production in order to allocate shared parts between the X-T5 and X-T6 toward the upcoming X-T6 production.
But the Fujifilm X-T6 will also come with quite a few new and potentially exciting software features, such as the new AI autofocus system, a new film simulation, and more. And according to my sources, Fujifilm needs a bit more time to properly develop and fine-tune the software.
Look, it’s a pity that this time it’s the Fujifilm X-T6 that has to go through a delay, but again, it’s not a reason to panic. As we’ve seen, these things happen quite regularly, and unfortunately, this time the X-T6 is the one affected.
