AF-comparison: X100 firmware 1.30 vs 2.00

PRE-ORDERS

X-E2 – USA: AmazonUS / BHphoto / Adorama / DigitalRev / Pictureline / EUROPE: wexphotographicUK / DigitalRev / Fotomundus24 GER

XQ1 – USA: AmazonUS / BHphoto / Adorama / DigitalRev / EUROPE: wexphotographicUK / DigitalRev

What a day yesterday! Two new cameras (X-E2 – X-pert corner first look here – and XQ1) and a new firmware for the classic X100 (download here). Now, the following video compares the AF-speed of the X100 (old firmware) with the X100 featuring the firmware ver.2.0. And what do you think about your tuned X100?

cheers

  1. Looks great – a question.
Presumably this speed increase is due to optimised code/new algorithm?
If so will the X100S get this too or does it already have it?
I was of the understanding that the X100S was faster because of the hybrid focusing system and a faster chip – if it doesnt have the latest optimised code and algorithm then it would get even faster by using this too wouldnt it?
Could you ask your fuji contacts?

    1. I’d rather guess that someone at Fuji thought, hey we got some fancy new “optimised” code for our X100s, how about trying to put some of it into the X100?

  2. Well, now I can make a portrait without macro mode which is really welcomed BUT, only through the EVF or LCD. Thanks Fuji anyway.

    1. It is possible to focus closer with the OVF in manaul focus mode, pressing the (af-l) button than the OVF in af-s mode. Depending on how close you go, you really will see the effect of the parallax error in the frame lines.

    1. Gil, I had that problem & it made me crazy for two days. I accidentally discovered the solution. I had “Eye Sensor” mode set & while looking thru the view finder I pressed the Disp/Back button, and the grid and virtual horizon appeared. Go figure.

I wish they would have moved the Auto ISO setting up in the menu. It is a pain to get to. I use the fn button for setting the ISO when I shoot manual or priority modes (which is most of the time with this great camera), but the auto ISO mode is handy at times.

  3. First day i was happy but now i feel just the same problems, not fast enough focus and many mistakes like focusing on the background instead of your main subject. i get even more blurred shots than before because i think i have a faster camera but, i haven’t. i need to speed down my style again. i guess the x100s is the answer to these problems.
