Let’s catch up with some lens rumors:
1) Fuji is likely going to announce a XF 90mm f/2.0 lens in late 2014 or early 2015 at max (Source: Fujirumors).
2) Olympus will soon announce the $1,799 expensive and high quality 7-14mm f/2.8 MFT lens (Source: 43rumors).
P.S.: A major bunch of FE lenses will be announced in late August by Sony. But still no specs available yet…

E 902 is a nice addition, but I think that 851.4 would have been even better as to dof and fl.
That is whole 1 EV faster and that would mean much bigger lens. Btw. if you need a really fast lens, there´s the 56mm/1,2.
Why would anyone buy the Oly vs Panasonic 7-14?
1000$ extra for one stop of light? (DOF would be the same anyway)
1800 USD is insane for a M4/3 f2,8 lens.
It’s probably insane for just about any 2.8 lens, but, then, that’s the world we live in…
Of course, Zeiss FF 15/2.8 costs $3,000… so maybe half that price is about the right amount of insanity. 🙂

At least it’s not Leica-insane.

Considering that the price is equal to the Four-Thirds version of the lens that is f/4.0, is it so bad?
Considering that the superb Nikon 14-24mm F2.8 designed for a sensor almost 4 times the size costs around $1850 I would say that it is outrageous to charge $1800 for a mFT lens .
Likely for the same reason someone would buy a Sigma Art 50mm 1.8 instead of a Canon 50mm 1.8 or 1.4… because it will likely have better IQ. Also, depending on the photographer, having an extra stop of light can be the difference between getting the shot in focus at a low ISO and not.
Why does everybody talk about DOF? Of course DOF will be wide anyway but the eposure time could be twice shorter. Or one is going to use the lense for face portraits? This one stop can be very important in astrography for instance or nigth cityscapes where it allows you to make pictures of people but not ghosts (image stabilisation doesn’t help) or for reporters. Olympus is trying to attract professional to it’s camp so they need their own gold trinity.
The weather-sealed design, plus the better optics will be my reasons for buying the Olympus lens, just like the Four-Thirds design, but the maximum aperture is better.
The Olympus 7-14 FT lens is a fraction “better” than the Panasonic 7-14 while costing £580 more ,weighs 2.5x as much and is 50% longer. To be blunt if you are really that interested in image quality why would you be shooting with mFT .The Nikon 14-24mm on the D800/e or on the A7r or any other FF camera will hugely outperform the Olympus on mFT.
