The lead image there was shot through a 25oz FX-format macro lens. Sort of defeats the point of a small system, doesn’t it? In fact, just about all of the sample images on that site were from lenses that are several times the bulk of that body.
*edit* I think I figured it out – rather than a standalone system, maybe this is supposed to be a tiny second/third body to put in your Nikon SLR bag. That would explain the price/performance ratio if it’s thought of as an accessory.
Nikon has really put a lot of marketing muscle behind the “1”. Sadly, that’s where their effort apparently ends.
If they advertise its use for FX lenses, they could have at least made it into a digital back, a modular camera: mount + sensor + CPU in a mono-block. The controls, EVF and LCD then are attached as accessories to the digital back. Different control modules, different EVFs, different LCDs – so that the cam can be customized to the specific shooting needs. Throw in some cage to hold it all together (and help hold the weight of the lens) and it might have been something interesting.
