It seems Nikon don´t want get serious in the mirrorless market. Lenses are too dark for a 1″ sensor and also the standard zoom wide end is only 28 mm equivalent. If I were interested in a 1″ system I´d buy Samsung NXF1 instead. At least, they offer a 24 mm wide end.
Meanwhile Sony will release the RX100Mk3 and the 1-System, once again, feels outdated …
Yes, I know – “but you can change lenses” …
They’ve adopted Olympus strategy of making external EVFs and addon grips, which I don’t like. Maybe they’ve unified J and V series this way, but the end result is Frankenstein camera that costs more.
I think that the Nikon 1 system is not very well understood. The emphasis on sheer speed and ease of use instead of on “DSLR-like image quality” makes it clear than Nikon views it as a distinct product family directed mainly at (affluent) young parents who are not particularly interested in photography per se. The 1 system is not marketed as a DSLR alternative. Not even as an alternative to other mirrorless systems. The notion of mounting large F mount telephotos on those diminutive bodies is a distraction from their core use, capturing active children. It may confuse some of the Nikon faithful, but not the target market.
I see where you are coming from but the problem is that you don’t need to sacrifice image quality for size and image quality nowadays. Entry level Sony NEX, Samsung NX for 3-4 years and now the Panasonic GM1 are all Tiny, shoot very fast and keep SLR like quality.
I think the NIKON 1 started with good intentions but now i think they are just releasing cameras to dilute the CSC market and steal unknowing customer instead of releasing cameras with the customers best interest in mind.
+ the price tag isn’t exactly targeting young parents
I really like the optional evf thing, I think that no ‘serious’ camera should come w/o that option. Being able to choose is nice. The problems with nikon 1 system – for me – are the small sensor and the launch prices.
great camera but too rich for my pocket. although atleast it’s not like the overrated a6000 which has only CAF to boot, but lacks the necessary features that made it a cripple when it need not to be.
sell this for $600 or $700 and this would surely fly right off the bat.
Nikon 1 V3 – Nikon launches 18.4MP mirrorless camera
Nikon’s third-generation Nikon 1 V-series mirrorless camera is here. The shooter features an 18.4MP AF CMOS sensor with no low-pass filters. This one is a decent upgrade from the V2, which sported a 14.2MP sensor. Additionally, the V3 also sports Expeed 4A image-processing engine and an ability to shoot up to 20 frames per second when in auto-focus mode and 60 frames per second when in fixed focus.
