  1. Wow. 2/100ths of one second, or 1/50th of a second faster than the Fuji X-T1! And hey, isn’t is so awesome that you get to use that super fast AF with a pile of crap lens lineup? Woo!

Seriously Sony, I used to ignore people who criticized you for producing more cameras than lenses. Now that I’m shooting Fuji, a company that will have a vastly better lens lineup in about half the time that NEX has existed, I can’t ignore that criticism anymore. By the end of the year, X system will have the full “pro” level lineup, fixed aperture zooms from 16 to 140mm, 56/1.2 (85/1.8 equivalent) portrait lens that is an AMAZING performer, 23/1.4 that is awesome wide open (entirely the opposite of the Zeiss 24/1.8 wide open which is basically broken at f/1.8) amongst many other fantastic lens options.

You can barely find a passable lens in the NEX lineup. And even when they are “okay” they are distinctly set in the momtographer range of capabilities and build quality.

The cameras Sony produces are really great in a lot of ways. But 1) UX is awful and 2) lenses are not there. Even Samsung has a better lens lineup. Pathetic. Disappointing.

Oh well. Maybe in another 3 years Sony will have 2-3 more lenses in this system (talking APS-C NEX here, though having just one good lens in the FE lineup and almost nothing else worth even looking at is hardly something to be proud of there) to consider (though based on history, 2 of those 3 will be 18-200mm zooms).

    1. Its not as bad as you say and really there is no 85mm equivalent. Both sony and fuji are missing AF 85mm lens. I think the 24mm you tried was broken. It is way overpriced to me but is very good and sharp wide open or at least the one I had was. There is the 50mm 1.8 , 35mm 1.8 24mm 1.8 + the new 55 1.8 ,35mm 2.8 that I find way above passable. I think you are overreacting a bit but fuji does have sony beat when it comes to lenses but for me I find what sony has so far fine for what I do but would love a 85mm or 135mm. I hate that we argue so much about what is better. Just pick one and go shoot.

    2. I agree on the disappointment with Sony – I have the NEX5n and NEX7 – and have been waiting for lenses –
I am convinced now that Sony see’s the old NEX line as a beginner camera to maybe intermediate users – so they are not expecting them to be buying many lenses – they thought it would be enough to come out with few very expensive Zeiss Prime lenses to satisfy those who had bought the NEX7 – but the NEX7 has some issues and we have been waiting a long time for this update which just proves that they are just saying that if you want something to to compete with Fuji X-T1 then buy the A7/r – else do not complain about lenses
As expected they did fix few things like AF – and yes amazingly they but a Mode Dial on the A7000. and made the trash can be a FN button – yes there is an improvement in the body in that they have another dial – hopefully not as loose as on the NEX7 that just blowing on it will move it –
Wow, Sony finally did away with that horrible NEX menu ! and implemented the RX and and Alpha menu system –
However no Touch LCD and No Touch to Focus and Shoot – I am amazed why Sony cannot have a Touch LCD on anything but the old NEX5n/r/t line and now A5000 – what gives – people who love the Olympus OMD-EM1 for example and Panasonic GX7 just love the Touch to Focus and Shoot – and for those who do not like it then a single option to just turn it off – So we will never see a Touch in anything above A5000 –
I think that Voice Control will be something that Olympus and Panasonic will embrace – so you just train your camera to your voice – and you just say “ISO 400” and it will change it for you – etc etc – but Sony would not implement –
I think many of the A7/r users are coming to the grips with the fact that there is a real lens shortage in the FE mount – and the fact that it is a FF so the lenses for it will be large and heavy –
Like look at the new FE mount 70-200 F4.0 – it is not even a F2.8 and it is huge for such a small body as the A7/r – and the rumor is that Sony will not be producing any F2.8 zooms – as they know they will be to heavy –

      1. Speak for yourself. As an A7 owner, I am more than happy with my lens options. The 55/1.8 is groundbreaking, and on the A6000 would be a lovely 85mm equivalent. It is neither large nor heavy – in fact it may be one of the most beautifully designed lenses on the market today. Sony also gave us an excellent compact 35mm out of the gate while Fuji made us wait almost 2 years for a large heavy lens that blocks the OVF on the X-Pro. I also have the option of using all my Minolta AF lenses with the LAEA-4 and fast PDAF focus. Also nice to shoot my M-Rokkor 40/2 at its native focal length – gorgeous IQ, compact size, easy to focus.

  2. by your reasoning, Canon would only have ONE good APS lens (17-55 2.8) but we all know that they have way more lenses than that. Good try though.

E mount lens is E mount lens. is there anything better than a FE 55mm? OTUS? Good luck.

looking at the fuji page: fuji has 11lenses while NEX has 22 in its lineup.

    again, nice try.

  3. A6000 is an improvement – nice to see an extra dial and yes there is a Mode Dial – however they still could have kept the NEX6 design and kept the other dial under the Mode Dial –
The other big thing is finally they gave up the old horrible NEX menu – and started using the RX and Alpha menu- as why maintain many types of menu systems – just to make it confusing for their customers –
Yes they improved AF – so tat is good – however AF is not just on the sensor, one has to have fast AF on the lens and Sony is horrible in producing more lenses – Fuji X which is a newer system has now more and better lenses –
So no Touch LCD or Touch to Focus –
I had bought NEX5n and then added the NEX7 as the NEX5n had no manual controls – only to still be very frustrated with the lack of decent manual controls on the NEX7 and horrible menu system and no Touch LCD – and a total lack of lenses – No 24-70 F2.8 and no 70-200 F2.8 and at this point do not expect to ever see them for the E-mount –
So I since have bought Olympus OMD-Em5 and two bodies of the Panasonic GX7 and I love them and have all the fast zooms and a F1.4 – and will soon get the fantastic 24.5mm F1.2 with AF –
As I do have some E-mount lenses I was hoping that Sony was wanting to compete with the OMD-Em1 and Fuji X-T1 – but that does not seem to be the case – so they basically are just updating the NEX6 as the name A6000 indicates and therefore dropping their top model –
I did not get the NEX6 due to menu system and lack of manual controls – I have a feeling that if there will be no new lenses that I will not be getting the A6000 and my NEX5n and NEX7 just keep collecting dust or will be sold
I was hoping for an Exmor R sensor – back lit. but no cigar – so I expect Fuji to do better in low light as they are only packing 16MP on their APS-C sensor vs Sony A6000 with 24MP –

  4. Typically, I carry the A7 with the 35mm f2.8 prime, or 55mm f1.8 prime in my bomber jacket pocket. A relatively small FF kit.

However… I got a great deal on the LA-EA4 adapter ($100). I use it when I need it. The camera won’t fit in my jacket pocket when using the adapter obviously, but it opens up a whole world of lens options. Fast lenses with fast AF.

  5. Looks a nice camera, I might get one, but in a side note, I have been noticing all this fuji fanboys attacking sony products, idk why buyers remorse maybe , no longer having the fastest af, I really dont know. But don´t worry fanboys your cameras are nice I would like to have one too, but they are just to expensive for most of us casual shooters.
