New Fuji X-E1 on top of the Amazon rankings.

The new Fuji X-E1 seems to have quite a huge amount of preorder requests at Amazon (Click here to see the ranking). A good start! Meantime check this new videos I found on youtube: Toshimitsu Takahashi and the X-E1, first look preview by AP, official Promotional Video. And the current X PRO 1 owners will be also happy to know that the new firmware upgrade will be released on September 18th!

  1. Looks like Fuji beat Panasonic in the race to create an updated DMC-L1, something many have been asking for. This looks like a really nice camera at a competitive price point. Hopefully they add focus peaking and a nice 35mm-equivalent prime lens, and hopefully Adobe can learn to work better with the Fuji RAW files.

  2. It’s a nice camera if you shoot JPEGs only or are happy with those “other” RAW editors. But I’m getting a little frustrated with fixing color bleeding.

    1. It’s really fine for me too. It’s a low light test and there is no hunting. For me, slow means 1 second or more and hunting focus. It’s a contrast detect, so it’s always dead focus.

    2. It will be interesting to see how the 18mm compares to the 18-55mm. The 18mm is already much faster than the 35mm. Regardless, the AF speed is already fine on the XPro unless you are wanting to shoot photos of birds in flight or some other really tricky shot. I’ve had no issues at all with portraits, street shooting, and obviously landscapes. I’ve even caught photos of bicyclists streaking by on the street.

I really think most of the people that struggle with these cameras simply use poor technique. The XPro makes you work, it’s not a camera you can just point and shoot. You need to anticipate action. It’s not for everyone. Some people obviously love just to point and shoot, but I personally love working to get the photo.

  3. This isn’t surprising, I think Fuji learned a hard lesson about pricing with the Xpro1, there’s a $900 difference between the XE1 kit and the Xpro1 + 1 lens, and look at the difference – a robust amount of early orders. $1700 for a slow focusing APS-c camera with no RAW support made me laugh when I saw the Xp1’s price, especially since you can get a mint 5d2 for the same amount of cash. Oh but those Fuji JPEG’s at 6400, whatever…

Hopefully this camera won’t get sacked with quality control problems like the other X cameras.
