EISA award winner prize for E-M5, X PRO 1 and NX20.

The European EISA agency released the name of the winners of the 2012 awards. There are thee categories of mirrorless cameras and those are the winners:
European Compact System Camera (Winner: Olympus OM-D E-M5)
European Advanced Compact System Camera (Winner: Samsung NX20)
European Professional Compact System Camera (Winner: Fujifilm X-Pro1)

For the record, EISA uses the deifnition “Compact System Camera” instead of our more popular definition “Mirrorless”. And as it happens every year…everybody wins a price…Nikon, Canon, olympus, Panasonic, Samsung and so on 🙂

By the way, the best mirrorless lens is the Panasonic 12-35mm X zoom.

  1. Did they explain how they decide which cameras are “advanced compact” or “professional compact” as opposed to merely “compact”?

Or do they just make up categories until there are enough for everyone to have a winner?

(On a non-mirrorless note, I wonder how Sony felt about winning the “SLR” category for the A57… which they insist is not an SLR?)

  2. Actually the prize with the shortest title in each category should be considered the Grand Prize winner of that category.

But then there are other products that the jury also think are good and therefore deserves an award as well and call them advanced or professional although one clearly can question if Samsung NX-20 or Fujifilm X-Pro1 are more advanced and professional cameras than Olympus OM-D E-M5.
(The only really professional camera is of course Nikon D4!)

Conlusion: Olympus OM-D E-M5 is the real overall winner in the Advanced Compact (Mirrorless) System Camera Category!

  3. such awards don’t make any sense if they don’t define exactly what mean the different categories. Personnaly, I don’t understand how the om-d can end up in the compact category. And also how the x-pro1 is more professional than the 2 others. EISA is not really credible with such statements

  4. Of course every EM-5 Owner would like to see himself as a pro with pro gear. But the EM-5 could never never be a professional camera. The sensor is to small. Its like a pro would use his iPhone for his shoots. Just ridiculous.
