  1. The lack of OIS for the 16-55 f2.8 explains the low 5th place (for this moment) in the ranking IMO. Altough I don’t own the lens, I realy like it for the IQ.

For indoors and other low light situations in general, IBIS is very welcome for the X-T2 for this lens (and other less fast primes) and would be a great differentiator to the X-Pro2 together with a flippy (touch) screen.

  2. While I haven’t bought any of the above, as I am waiting to see what Fuji brings with the X-Pro 2/X-T2 before I invest more in the system. I would say the XF 90mm and XF 16mm were the best lenses that they released this year. The X-T10 was very important too, as it provided a cheaper option for people to shoot with an X-Series camera.

By the way, on Flickr, I just looked through Sony A7rii and Fuji X groups and, while technically the A7rii is the better camera (and many Sony fanboys who stop by here or Fuji complainers would argue so), the images that I saw do not support this very well ~ I found that I preferred many more images in the Fuji X groups. Perhaps it is because the lenses are just as important as sensors, and Fuji makes some great lenses. Who knows.

I would have been impressed if I had visited the Sony A7rii groups and found compelling, great photos, that showcase a significant boost in image quality. However, I found it difficult to see much of a difference, aside from perhaps slightly more details in some cases.

  3. Talking about those I know:
35mm f/2 WR. Fast , nice lens with good dimensions. Not optically perfect, but a nice addition to the system. Fur sure not the best of the year

16-55: awesome lens. Sharp all across the frame (an on prime level), superior build quality with everything you want (constant aperture, WR, fast focus etc). Probably one of the best standardzooms.
I love the hate it got due to the missing OIS – looking at the new Nikon 24-70 we see all the drawbacks (cost, size, image quality) this would have come with

X-T10. Good camera with nice additions. But it’s still a “first and a half” generation. Good but not perfect

16mm. Awesome wide angle. Close focus distance is incredible and so idüs the sharpness. Optically not perfect, but which wide angle is?! Only real drawback is the bit busy OOF rendition with medium distances. Probably one of the best lenses (overall) if there wasn’t…

…the 90mm. Optically as near to perfection as it gets. Incredible sharp all across the frame at all apertures. Nearly apochromatic with nearly perfectly corrected aberrations and a beautiful bokeh

This isn’t just the Fuji lens of the year, but the overall best lens of 2015. By far!

  4. Of the ones I’ve used, X-T10 wins, hands-down. You can buy 2 for the price of 1 X-T1 and there’s very little difference. That sort of minimal downgrade for such a practical saving is unheard of within photography, other than arguably between the Canon 1D and 5D lines. (Though I consider the 1D cameras to be more of an improvement over the 5D line than the X-T1 is over the X-T10.) I thought the X-T10 would be pointless, but after getting a pre-production unit in my hands, I sold my X-T1s, replaced them with X-T10s, pocketed the extra cash and haven’t looked back.

The 16mm is a helluva lens, too. I wish I had more use for wider focal lengths so I could justify buying it, but I take maybe 20 wide-angle shots a year, so for now I make do with renting.

I have to say, having given the 90mm more of a go recently, I’ve been really disappointed with it and I’m genuinely surprised there is so much love for it. Then again, I’ve never been a fan of the 135mm focal length, anyway; I’m also not a fan of 85mm and I’ve never really gotten the love for the 56mm, either. Still waiting on a 70mm f/2 to fill that gap for me. Still having to carry a Canon body and lens with me to shoots because there just isn’t a ‘right’ Fuji headshot lens for me. (That, and because when I’m doing headshots the job usually mandates files over 20mp; I’m hoping the X-Pro2 will sort out that hurdle for me, since everyone and their mother is saying it’ll be 24mp.)

    1. “and I’m genuinely surprised there is so much love for it. ” Just because you seem to fail at noticing the strenghs of this lens, doesn’t mean that everybody does, too. It’s optical perfection in a neat little package at a cheap price for what it is. Only gripe people do seem to have is the field of view, which is the gripe you seem to have, too. Not the lens’s fault imo.

  5. The 16mm f1.4 is one of the best lenses I’ve ever used. For a wide angle prime it’s rendition and micro contrast is outstanding. Fast to focus too. Haven’t tried the 90mm yet….scared to as I’ll probably end up buying it!! Well done Fuji ?
