(FT3) Panasonic compact camera announcement soon (no MFT).

There could be soon a compact camera announcement made by Panasonic. At least one new FZ camera will be launched. As long as I know no new MFT camera is coming The GX7 will be announced in late August (confirmed by Panasonic US!). And the Olympus cameras will arrive in mid September.

In the long term both Panasonci and Olympus will step out from the low end compact camera business and focus on the high end market. The new Panasonic LF1 is a nice camera but Panasonic still has to launch a bigger size sensor camera to be really competitve against Fuji and Sony. Also Olympus plans to launch a high end compact camera soon!

P.S.: Super E-Pm2 Gold Box deal at Amazon Germany (Click here).

    1. i saw on image-sensor-world panny get new 17mpx 1.4um FSI ,may use in new FZ line camera
but about New GX is still mystery sensor.

  1. The FZ200 and FZ60 were announced on July 18th, 2012.
    The FZ150 – Aug 26 after the FZ47 on July 21st, 2011.
The FZ100 and FZ40 were announced on July 21st, 2010.
The FZ37 was announced on July 27th, 2009.
The FZ28 was announced on July 21st, 2008.
The FZ18 was announced on July 24th, 2007.
The FZ50 was announced on July 19th, 2006.
The FZ30 was announced on July 20th, 2005.
The FZ20 was announced on July 21th, 2004.

I think it’s safe to say there’s a new FZ coming our way.

  2. Could you please specify what you consider a low end compact camera?

    BTW
I recently tested the FZ200 against the Fuji HS50 Autofocus in a local store.
The Fuji was a lot quicker, especially on the Tele End, which really surprised me.

    1. I think they are usually defined as cameras with a retail list price under $150 or so. For Panasonic, the LUMIX FH10 would be an example.

The price and features compete too much with cellphone cameras now, people who want something better than their phone are buying higher quality, more feature packed cameras or cameras with long zoom.

  3. Fuji is supposed to come up with FZ 250…Possible specs
42X zoom, Aperture =F2.8-F4 , 16 mpx, New sensor, PDAF & CDAF like Fuji HS50EXR, rest features carryover from FZ200

Fuji had faster Auto-focus because of both PDAF & CDAF.

Panasonic will catch up on zooms with the market and USP will be its fast lens F2.8-F4 and new improved sensor.

    1. Not correct. This is, as the heading of the site says, “Panasonic and Olympus Digital Camera News”. High end compacts and superzooms are interesting to many of us who don’t carry our M43 cameras everywhere. Good job admin.

    2. Panasonic FZ200 and it’s coming successor (FZ250 OR FZ280 according to various rumors) are NOT compact cameras but hybrid mirrorless, so why this website should avoid giving rumors & infos on these products as long as it also give us info on Canon products (mostly DSLR’S…) so be a more open spirit (if you have any spirit !)

      1. wow, I want the stuff you are smoking. I’m reading many a rumor site, but I’ve never heard of hybrid mirrorless / superzooms.

    3. Wrong. It is a 4/3 site, not a Micro 4/3 site. Check the top of the page. Some of us use 4/3 (and also Micro 4/3) and appreciate information relating to the 4/3 concept as a whole. Despite the doom sayers, there is a quite healthy (albeit satisfied and generally quiet) community of 4/3 users out there. Other information which tends to stray from the main topic just adds to the whole knowledge base of photography in general, and enriches, not pollutes, the database.

  4. The 1/1.7″ sensor (Panasonic LX7, LF1, Olympus XZ-2, XZ-1) is only 1,52 bigger than the 1/2.3″ sensor found in cheap compact cameras. The only perfect sensor for the high-end compact cameras is the 1″ sensor, found in Sony RX100, 4,2 bigger than the 1/2.3″ sensor.

  5. Panasonic can kill all the $1000 camera MKT if they Can make a 24x zoom on a 1 inch sensor with f2.8 all through the tele end

  6. We need new 1.2″ sensor, 80x pancake zoom, constant f/0.95, internal zooming, weathersealed camera in LF1 body.

    1. LOL !
Yes that day will come soon as Nokia is successful in putting a 1/1.5 sensor in a very thin 5x zoom cell phone (Nokia 1020). With a bigger body like fz series you can do more wonders

  7. I would really, really like to see a pocketable (LX7 or smaller) camera with WiFi, good 1080p60 video, and an articulating (or at lest tilting) LCD. Viewfinder not required. Something to give me a Panasonic choice to consider against the new Sony RX100.MkII.

I’ve been waiting for a couple of years now for a take-anywhere camera with 1080p60 video, and the Sony is the first to deliver. I hope that there will be some other choices available before I buy…

  8. A 15x zoom, 20-300mm, with F3.5-5.6 and 1″ sensor, is possible to make and it will be the best travel high-end compact camera.
