This has been again a very long wait for a new Sigma lens to be available in A-mount. According to [shoplink 35015 ebay]Hong Kong eBay sellers (Click here)[/shoplink] the new 24-105mm f/4.0 ART A-mount lens will ship in late June. You can also preorder the lens at BHphoto (Click here) but there is no shipping info on their side.

which is more likely? sigma knows something about the future of a- mount or simply releasing an a-mount lens just because it felt like it?
A factor here is that lens already exists for Canon/Nikon. It likely isn’t that difficult to switch to an A-mount now that the sales for Canon/Nikon have dropped off. Most of Sigma’s lenses are on all 3.
I just think it’s too bad there are so FE mount Sigma lenses. I love my A-mount 17-70 2.8-4 lens.
Sigma understands business unlike most of the people that have been predicting the end of a-mount since 2006. To know there are more cameras coming one only needs to look at the lens releases, consistent 30% of all lenses Sony releases, even during the FE build out. Its sort of like tracking a bear.. you don’t need to look for broken branches and stray hair, when the bear is feeding on salmon in front of you. Recent lens updates clearly say more bodies coming.. and the segment of most of them say advanced and Pro-level. coming. Only question is will the A58 get updated after the A99 replacement comes or will it only be A77 level and above..
Alas, i’m starting to think like Barry. But i do hope he’s completely wrong and your predictions come true my friend. If you’re right about our beloved mount’s future in my opinion the A58 is on its last days. There will be no reason to keep an average body if they intend to move A-mount towards the professional market.
You see FE body releases have REALLY slowed down. I bet the next body released will be A-mount with/after the A7R. Sony has mad a lot of money focusing on FE but they know it doesn’t make sense to pump out a new FE body every 6 months. If Sony is smart they will focus on A-Mount for a little while and then back to FE once tech makes it worth wile for a new body.
FE mount and you can get my money Sigma-
Looks like a good standard lens for a successor to now “long in the tooth” A99. Maybe Sigma do know that such a “beast” with 36 or 50Mp sensor is in the pipeline. My understanding is that the Art lenses will resolve 50Mp.
Makes a nice kit lens.
Sigma has been having a huge problem meeting the demand for thier current popular products.
In February I preordered the 150-600 sport lens, as well as a Nikon camera and accessories.
After pushing back the delivery time again and again, the last projected delivery being late this month ….maybe….I returned my Nikon equipment unused and and got the Tamron 150-600 for Sony.
I would have preffered the Sigma but they are unable to fullfill my order in time to avoid the loss of all or most of this seasons use.
Thank you B&H for allowing me to return the Nikon equipment even though I have had it longer than your policy permits.
The Tamron lens is excellent at 600mm f8, and at all other focal lengths, however it is noticeably less sharp at 600mm f6.3.
Unfortunately that is the most usefull apperture/ focal length combination and I will have to work around that shortcoming.
On the plus side the lens is light, comact , otherwise sharp, and saved me lots of money. And only spent about $1000.
With the money I saved I would be highly interested in upgrading to a better supertele zoom if Sony were to add one to thier system.
Possibly..300-600 f5.6 for $3000
Or 300-800 f6.3 for $3500
Or something like that.
The only lens I am interest right now is the 120-300 F2.8 sport.
However, it is not available in a-mount.
I guess I may get a D750 just for this lens.
and it is still cheaper than the 300 2.8 SSM ii
You are in the same position that most Sony users face…you must either switch to Canikon or do without the lens you really want…because Sony does not make a fully compatable adapter.
Any news on the sigma 150-600 contemporary that was initially announced as A mount and then reduced to Canon, Nikon, Sigma…..
Seems from the post below the Nikon version is quite scarce too…
PS yes I will use it on A7 and a6000 and the lack of stabilization in tamron mount is not an advantage. May be I will upgrade to a7 ii
The Sigma 150-600 contemporary will never be made for A mount or E mount.
If you want this type of lens you have 2 choices..
Buy a Tamron, or buy a Canikon.
Unfortunately the lack of real information about what new cameras will be comming out makes this an extremely difficult decision.
I suspect the same too. E mount is not yet clear on AF. Sigma’s current lenses do not work well on a6000. Either sigma are lazy to fix their FW or Sony has decided to shut the door of E mount
I have waited for this lens a while, and hope it will get OS in a-mount version.
But no one know when will it available in a-mount or may be never.
Finally, I choose the get the Tamron 150-600 last month, and it work perfectly with my A77II 🙂
It does, but you can pretty much forget about using it with a teleconverter.
At 600mm stop down to f8 and you will get good results. There seems to be no advantage to stopping down more than that, especially on apsc.
I have the Bigma, and this lens totally outclasses the Bigma.
would love this for Sony FE
Me too!
For a-mount i already have the 2470Z F 2.8.
Sigma is one of the major reasons autofocus compatability with Canikon is a major issue.
Sigma …and others…are choosing not to make Sony mount lenses..primarily because Sony roadmap/future is so unpredictable.
And Sony native lens selection leaves many important gaps…primarily because sony only concentrates on what it thinks are the most popular and profitable lenses. This only meets the needs of photographers that have very limited needs.
Canon, Nikon, and Sigma all have more complete lens systems than Sony, so we are forced to choose between Sony cameras, and the lenses we want.
I would prefer to be able to use Sony cameras AND the lenses I want.
Another day, same old rhetoric and still wrong. A+ for consistency.
Sadly, this is a vicious circle of running a business.
Since they do not have user base as large as other two, they cannot sell as many lenses, so in turn they are forced to produce only the more popular lenses, because others would not be viable due to economy of scales via R&D and tooling costs. This leads to less complete lens line-up, which in turn keeps their market share from growing 😉
Barry this lens IS for A-mount which contradicts your argument. Didn’t you notice that?
A mount will only work on E mount with adapters or on older discontinued Sony cameras.
New A mount cameras will be not be made.
“New A mount cameras will be not be made.” Opinion not fact.
And just what ” FACTS ” do you actually expect on a rumor site, or do you consider your own “same old rhetoric” to be ” facts”
“New A mount cameras will be not be made.” That’s a definitive statement so you’re implying it as fact which it is not. In other words it’s BS.
I challenge Sony to prove me wrong and make a new state of the art technology A mount camera. I would in fact very much like to be proven wrong.
But until and unless they do so
“New A mount cameras will not be made” is indeed fact.
It is not fact – you are using the future tense. A prediction can never be a factual statement. http://www.logicallyfallacious.com/index.php/logical-fallacies/107-hypothesis-contrary-to-fact
Do you know what a fact even is?
Check the string of comments leading up to the comment in question…hopefully that will make a fuull circle of comments unnecessary…it was not originally defined as fact or not fact..it started as just a comment.
I gave you too much credit , I had assumed you were capable of determining for yourself whether comments are fact, opinion, or somewhere in between without my requiring to make that distinction for you in every comment.
And if I do label each coment as fact/opinion that will certainly subject me to more criticism tha not doing so.
Often opinion becomes fact , or vise versa making properly labeling each comment as fact or opinion sort of like hitting a moving target.
So I think I will continue to decode for myself what I choose to say, and you will have to continue to decide for yourself what you choose to believe.
Barry I’ve been reading your posts for years now and your batting average is pretty low. I’ll take this comment with a grain of salt if you don’t mind.
Actually a lot of my comments happen, but my predictions are usually far ahead of current trends so people are not ready and very critical …
Then when they do happen long after I have talked about them.
They were too obviose, anyone could have predicted them
I have been repeating the same thing over and over for too long
Or they dissagree with something else I say so nothing I was correct about counts.
Of course some of what I say will be incorrect and not happen..other things I say do happen..so yes, take it all with a grain of salt, as you should, because this is a rumor site.
Lastly…looking at how unreliable and wrong SAR rumors have been lately, I am doing far better
Wow, ever heard of narcissistic personality disorder?
Could you please list these amazing predictions that were “far ahead of current trends”?
Barry, new A mount cameras will certainly be made. 100 percent no questions asked done, done and done. Stop worrying about your glass. Either sell it or go out and shoot it.
I hope you are correct but lack your confidendence in that prediction.
I also find it to be totally unlikely we will see it in time for this saeson of shooting.
And of course until and unless Sony makes a new A mount camera it is an undisputable fact that ” no new A mount cameras will be built”
By that (absurd) logic…you are basically always right – until you are wrong. Face…Palm.
I like that logic…I will probably use some variation of youre comment in the future
This lens while very good for a zoom with a relatively wide zoom range is not in the same league with the truly high resolution primes. Although usable with a 50 megapixel sensor the lens limitations will be obvious when closely examined. It would likely be an ideal match using a 24 megapixel sensor, 36 or 50 not so much.
My Canon-mount copy works superb on my A7R & A7S (via a Metabones adapter) and resolves 36MP perfectly.
You don’t know what you’re saying, C. Ryan.
Why a mount… just make e mount.
E mount is discontinued.
Is it true ?
because that lens is SLR-design based. Not mirrorless.
Fantastic. Keep the best glass for the best mount. I’ll buy this once I’m done buying the 18-35mm 1.8 this week.
EF-mount?
This is the 4th or 5th time that SAR has claimed that the release of this lens is imminent. I don’t trust a Hong Kong eBay seller to be in the know. Sigma USA claims they have no timetable for the release of this lens for a-mount.
So yeah… Maybe the tooth fairy and Santa Claus will really deliver it in a few weeks.
Actually… Look at the negative feedback for the seller. They list this lens but then don’t actually sell it.
Directly compare it to a good prime, then you will know what I’m saying.
Now, where is the 120-300mm F2.8 HSM Sport, Sigma??? I want it for A-mount! That’s a killer lens. No need to buy 70-200mm F2.8 SSM and 300mm F2.8 SSM. Just the Sigma and I’m done.
Useless for me, but i still 2nd that. Sigma has been releasing awesome DSLR lenses recently. A-Mount could really benefit if more variety was available.
So when the hell will they enter the FE market? It’s ripe for them to do something
Perhaps Sigma could build an FE mount version.
