DOWNLOAD NOW the Amazing New Fuji X-T1 Firmware 4.0 – Tethered Shooting Adobe Plug-in Update!

 photo donwlaod_zpsnwjzklit.jpg

2 months after I’ve spread the first rumors here on FujiRumors (huge thanks to the sources!), the Big New X-T1 Firmware 4.0 is finally available for download at the Fujifilm site here… and it’s, once again, a brand new camera. Thanks Fuji!

NOTE: I was able to update my BETA FW 4 with the Final one 🙂

Feel free to share your first impressions here on FujiRumors and also at the Fuji X Forum. I’ve tested the BETA Firmware 4 for a few days now (read my feedback in this thread), and here are just a few tips to make the best our of the new AF tracking system:

– Enable Mechanical Shutter (MS) only. The camera won’t focus between each shot (CL or CH) if MS+ES (electronic shutter) is enabled.
– Turn Off face detection to enable PDAF
– High Performance Mode ON

Now get some coffee and have fun testing FW 4 😉

Fujifilm posted also 2 software udpate news: the tethered shooting plug-in for Adobe (more here) and the HS-V5  (more here)

    1. you’re welcome… I think I’ll try to get some sleep now… but all that damn coffee keeps me awake now 😉

  1. The tips above suggest both electronic shutter and face detection have to be turned off – is this only with the beta version? It’s a bit frustrating otherwise …

    1. Electronic shutter is not good for fast moving subjects. Therefore you can use the tracking only with MS

When you have Face Detection enabled, you can track, but just with Contrast detection AF… to use phase detection, disable face detection.

  2. Just installed and it feels great. However the “sound and flash OFF” is still there… but, if it is really “sound and flash” and it is ON, perhaps some people will think “flash will be ON all the time”?

Anyway, my 35mm feels better. I am a DSLR user, so the WIDE/TRACKING settings sounds amazing, which is simulating the DSLR AF-C. I found in CH the lense tracks better than in CL. I didn’t mean the output picture quality, just how the lense works. In S or CL, the tracking still leaves the image blurred a lot, but in CH the lense motor works quick and most of the time, the image is sharp.

Just a pity that they didn’t modify the AF-L button along with the tracking function. To track, half-press shuttle is the only way, and AF-L will still lock the focus.

Now I am a bit worried about the battery performance under constant focusing action. Well…

I think Fuji is doing well job here, even the mirrorless can not match DSLR but at least they are working towards it! Next step to improve the focusing performance may be in the lense, let’s see how it goes!

    1. “Just a pity that they didn’t modify the AF-L….”

My thoughts exactly. I don’t understand my they are independent of each other. I want to focus with the AF-L and take photos with the shutter. It sort of works in MF mode but no zone or wide tracking. 🙁

        1. Thanks for the hint! As you said “INSTANT AF SETTING” decides how camera focuses when AF-L button is pressed in manual focus mode.

Perhaps just my feelings, the AF-C performance is not as good as common AF-C mode?

And the AE will also be locked by pressing AF-L button? Or just I missed something…

Anyway, just to check anyone else has the same experience. Thanks!

  3. Wow. All of the awesome information from the beta version really helped me get up to speed with v4.00. Thanks again for keeping us all informed.

  4. Not that much faster, but absolutely much more snappy and exact, the AF sensitivity boost is really helpful, now the tracking focus does not struggle with every slight shade. Also the slower lenses gain from this, as they know exactly where to focus and don´t need to hunt. And with the other benefits, this firmware is a great present – how I missed the manual mode exposure compensation. It´s not a new camera, but a better one, and finally comparable with middle class APS-C DSLR´s. I will test it in a female rugby match against the D7100 with 70-200/4, I think the results won´t be much different.

    1. Just a shame that the current iso is not displayed until the shutter button is half-pressed.
If I choose auto iso with a maximum of 3200iso, instead of showing a constant “AUTO 3200”, iT would be better to show the current iso metered with a small label “3200” or “auto3200”.

      1. The auto iso manual mode with iso compensation and the graphical implementation I am suggesting, will be a pleasure to use!

      2. It would be very nice, I know it from other cameras, but it seems that this (like the “only 12 hour” time format) will for always stay as a Fujifilm identity mark.

  5. Right, Firmware 4.0 released, the X-Pro2 will be in 2016 for those who actually care about it. So what’s new on the rumour radar? Is FUJIFILM considering any other lenses besides those already disclosed on the roadmap?

    1. Congratulations! That has to be the fastest ‘what have you done for me lately?’ comment ever.

  6. For customers who don’t have the HS-V5, “FUJIFILM Tether Shooting Plug-in” will be able to be purchased at Adobe Exchange site.

“will be available” ? Any info when? For now i can’t find anything on the adobe exchange site

  7. Yes, things are a bit snappier with this latest firmware, so now the AF behaves as it should have done in the first place, I’d say. The AF first underperformed, now it is up to the standard they claim (advanced pro-sumer). Thank you. I also waited 1 full year before they added minimum shutter speed in Auto ISO (that their old S5pro had in 2005). That’s 20 lines of code or so… But this is what “KAIZEN” was invented for 🙂

So now the big question will be: Will Fuji manage to finally (after 3,5 years) come out with a new sensor in 2015 or 2016? Or will they sell their “trusted X-Trans 16MP” for the rest of our lives?

    1. It’s all a bit negative, but I see your point. The AF-algorithm & ergonomics have been improved but I expected them to be a lot better than it actually proofs to be. On the 35mm it’s quite noticeable, on the 56mm I couldn’t see a very significant AF-speed difference. But overall, it feels more stable and accurate, that’s all true – and that silly compact camera macro-mode has finally gone. Well, keep it like this, after 3 years Fuji X is more or less on par with the expert kind of DSLRs. Fuji also copied AF-S & AF-C features that are already standard in mid-level DSLRs since quite some time. Is that a bad thing? No it isn’t. But it also proofs there are no miracle solutions – a criticism I feel versus a lot of unbound DSLR bashing – people thinking now that mirrorless is a kind of holy grail finally enabling a new kind of photography. This is pure nonsense and the kind of firmware, menu organization and ergonomics all major DSLR-manufacturers had and have in place still make a lot of sense over ever changing button layouts, disperse menus and not very efficient management of the AF-controls. And yes, I still think this 16MP performs very well, it’s a very filmic performer with the X-trans CFA (despite all the conversion issues), but for Fuji, time has come for the next step forward – and I’m more longing for a far better ISO-capability than that far overrated higher resolution, to be honest.

  8. Point is that a lot of the current “articles” on this “rumour site” rather belongs on the new forum.

As for it being a “what have you done for me lately?”-comment, well, I didn’t ask FUJIFILM for this new firmware version (but thanks a million anyway). I have, however, asked them numerous times for some specific lenses; only one of which is on the horizon. Possibly the others are as well, only Patrick hasn’t shared the rumours with us, yet.

Besides, the leaked “beta” version of the firmware kind of spoiled the actual release, as it seems they’re the same.

    1. They are nearly identical but not exactly the same. The final release seems to have gotten a few bug fixes it seems. No major changes though.

  9. Probably it’s just me and too many things on my mind but where do you enable the AF bleep? It’s disabled since the firmware update. Can’t find it anywhere :/
