      1. That’s a full frame lens. I can get Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G for less than $800 and Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G Lens for less than $700

        1. Not as wide. Not as fast. Plastic. No aperture ring. $800 for a plastic 20mm f/1.8 makes the Fuji look like a bargain. I think it’s also notable no other camera maker builds a lens for crop sensor this fast below 35mm equiv.

          1. But those pricy nikons, when step down to f/2, which is about f/1.4 on APSC, has much better performances. So it is a bit faster.

          2. People always compare equivalents when it suits them… F1.8 is f1.8 unless your using a speed booster. If you used the f1.8 Nikon in a crop sensor your not letting in the same light as the 1.4 (but your getting about f2 in depth of field in terms of ff). This is a 16mm 1.4. A fast wide lens.
There isn’t a crop sensor lens to compare it to as no one makes one. Maybe the Rokinon 16mm f2 which is a bit of a beast to be honest…

          3. Nope not biased (I am actually a Nikon user currently), I just think people should take things for what they are (also I wasn’t even the one who bought up Nikon, it was actually user “fly moon”… ) . Correct you cannot use Nikon g lenses without a special adapter, but you can use the d variants with a dumb adapter. But this is getting off topic. I absolutely agree that people should think of s lens as a system instead of lens alone…which is why I personally haven’t bought a Sony. If you only think in terms of DOF, Sony of another ff system would probably suit you better

          4. Be on the topic, I think what Fuji really offers is light prime with good performance and decent JPEG output quality. Price… It is okay. $ony is definitely stirring up the market with their pricing strategy. But that’s $ony alone. Fuji is doing okay in pricing. Post-processing can be a problem depending on software. Color-rendering wise… Just play with any raw processing software, eventually people will get there. The only reason why I did not think about Nikon is the weight. I probably will get A7R eventually.

        2. And you get what you pay for. the 1.8G series is good, but not at the level of the Fuji production, especially the latest ones. With them I can have what I would consider as Pro lens in aperture, IQ, color rendition, build quality at around 2/3 ot the price of the equivalent or similar offering from the “big boys”

  1. If I didn’t have the superb XF14mm f/2.8R, I would definitely consider this. Looks like yet another beautiful lens.
