    1. Funny, I was thinking the same thing when I saw it. They are giving the battery grip for free, so that’s a plus, but even then I think 2k is probably too much at this point.

      1. Simply means that I can sell to you my NEX-7 in new state for 1250$. 2 years later, it is still the same and not any less camera it was.

        1. The a99 retailed for $2,800 (cheaper than its rivals d800/5dmk3)

It’s price drop came down to $1,999. The $1,250 was the nex-7’s regular retail price…

A new a99 today is still cheaper than a used nikon d800 and canon 5dmk3… also considering both of those cameras are older than the a99.

          1. Uhh… walk into a retail store and what does the employee say…

Customer: hi I’m looking for a DSLR

Retail employee: oh we have this canon and nikon.

Also, how many “typical” consumers know about the a99… Or Sony a-mount in general! Sony hardly, or never markets their a-mount cameras in the US

  1. A99 is at this moment worth 1300$ for the body. At that price I buy one, but not at 2k. The success of that camera was since the beginning a disaster due to it’s overpricing policy. It should have been sold 1800$ at issue, that would have fired up interest in A-mount and made Sony produce new A-mount cameras.

      1. Exactly, it’s Sony’s flagship — slightly higher than 5D Mark III but lower than 1D series.
Remember, A99 came with the world’s first dual AF system, the first full frame body with native 1080/60P, first full frame body with OLED EVF, etc.
