An Asian reader sent me that image showing what he says is the new SLRmagic 35mm f/1.4 Cine Lens. It means it has a smooth click-less aperture ring and noiseless focus ring. Sound perfect for the use on the new Black Magic Cinema Camera or upcoming GH3.

Interesting, somo idea about price?
wonder if this is any better then the samyang 35mm f/1.4, I think they make a cine version of that too. There is also the Mitakon 35mm f0.95 coming out for m43.
Hey if its cheap it might be worth it.
i think not Cine lens,
with E-M5 if lens not have electronic contacts = not stabilized videos
;-(
Waiting new firmware to E-M5 with this BUG corrected
what the hell are you talking about ? THERE IS NO BUG !!! you just know nothing, that’s the bug.
ABSOLUTELY ALL lenses are stabilized in EVERY Olympus (m43) camera. Where the heck did you get the impression you needed electronic contacts for that ? the IBIS is built in the sensor.
That’s how ignorance is spread.
In think 499 EURO/$ like the 1,6/12mm – but I hope it’s cheaper. Strange focal length: 70mm equiv.
I stay with the Oly 1,8/45
90mm equiv?? strange focal length…..
35mm/70mm equivalent isn’t bad. Sort of a short-ish portrait length. I’ve got a Voigtländer Nokton 35mm f1.4 that I use as a street lens, so something like this could be quite useful for some.
o.k., but it seems to me, that this is a lens for APS-C. Let’s wait and see…
Taking the cheap way out, eh, SLR Magic? 😉
That seems likely, but with different mounts.
Why on earth is it so long and cheap looking?
This is a MF 35mm f.14. Look how small and good the old Classic Voigtlanders are.
Don’t tell me we can’t have that size and click less aperture and call that “Cinema”!
@Camaman
>Why on earth is it so long
>Don’t tell me we can’t have that size and click less aperture and call that “Cinema”!
It is obvious you know shit about filming. The Classic Voigtlander 35/1.4 is too small to even rack focus. Breathing is also terrible with that lens and not good for filming. We like it big and you managed to give the worst suggestion for a 35mm lens for filming.
We go through a lot of effort to get our lenses de-clicked and to gear up the lens.
Please explain how a manual rangefinder lens manages to breathe when shooting video? Maybe it’s on life support? Or higher brain functions have ceased? 😛
The little Voigtländer 35mm f1.4 has a small focus tab, so it would be interesting to see how one would hook up one of those geared focus gizmos to one.
Mr. Reeee
Do you have the lens? Try to focus from far to near and from near to far and notice the edge of the image. It breats and pants like a dog as Ben said.
Camaman suggest the Voigt is a good lens for Cinema and it is not. Maybe good for stills only. The requirement for a CINE lens is much higher than a stills lens.
No small lenses please. Even if f/4 large diameter please.
Isn’t lens breathing what AF lenses do when focusing. Sort of a micro-hunt for correct focus.
Yes, I have one and will try it. I sort of expect that when searching for focus when shooting stills. But for video… pardon my lack of jargon … but, when setting up a shot with multiple focus points, don’t they set stops on the focus ring with one of those clamp-on geared focus lever thingies?
What you are referring to is called focus hunting. It is not the same as lens breathing. Look at this sample online. Breathing is like zooming in and zooming out while focusing form near to far and far to near.

Zeiss 35/1.4 Distagon breathes and pants quite a bit too http://vimeo.com/15090215
This f/1.4 lens has a small diameter front lens element compared to the size of the barrel. Since it has no autofocus or image stabilization, why couldn’t it be made much, much smaller?
Cinema lenses typically shoot for a fixed front diameter so that they can fit into matte boxes properly. I have no idea if this lens is large enough though.
Those of us shooting video don’t really want super small lenses either. We like something that is bigger and easier to work with.
HOLY MOLEY A NEW LENS FROM SLRmagic?!!
Sony is TOAST.
I’m gonna cream my pants if Olympus releases a veiled picture of the epm1 shutter button.
If It’s less expensive then the samyang (I don’t have high hopes for that) this would be very appealing to me, but I prefer future proof lenses and a full frame canon or nikon that can be adapted to most anything is a much better choice. However, the samyang breathes, no, pants like a dog in the summertime.
Small lenses like the Voigtlander on the AF-100 is also a no no. You cannot reach the lens since the base of the camera is so large.
Breathing is another issue. Big issue as Ben said. The Rokinon/Samyang/Vivitar breaths and the Voigtlander breaths as well and no good for filming.
the review from vimeo.com/sebfarges
I’m about to have it… coming in a few days… 🙂
