(SR5) You will definitely see new Sony stuff (including the A77 successor) at the WPA in London!

I have been told by a highly trusted sources that Sony will announce the new Sony A77 successor (and some more stuff) at the World Photography Award in London which starts on May 1!

And as you know Sony promised to launch new FE lenses soon too (and probably another camera surprise?). This is going ot be very exciting here on SAR…

  1. Admin, it’s more then time now for the release of the know spec’s of the A77II, let’s here it please.

    1. I agree. Andrea is getting fuc*ing ridiculous now. This isnt a rumor site at all anymore…its SonyAlphaFactsWeAlreadyKnow
      What a pussy.

    2. I agree – would be really helpful to see something preliminary, given how much info was available for the a7 1 month before release. Any news on srnsor, evf res, af micro-adjustment etc?

  2. I am looking around to see if I can trade in a NEX-6 and 7 for the A6000…

Sony started the pro service and other services, they should also think about trade in programs. The old bodies are piling up and the new ones looking much better and better.

    1. just sell it on ebay. The nex-7 seven sells for around six to seven hundred and the six sells for about 500.00.

  3. Like most A mount users I find the painstakingly slow realease of new A mount stuff very frustrating.
My hope is that the long wait will actually prove to be for a purpose and that this camera will have some substantial innovations.
    Admin
How about posting what you believe to be the specs of this camera and rate each spec from sr1-sr5

    1. There are already many A-mount lenses, what other lenses do you want?

Considering Sony is trying to push their mirrorless cameras, they need more e-mount lenses to support all those bodies

      1. He speaks about A77II, not about lenses. And yep, Admin, +1 for specs…. What about video improvements, 4K, 5 axis IBIS …?

      2. I have preordered the tamron 150-600
I already have a substantial collection of macro lenses so I am actually in fine shape for lenses.

        1. “A substantial collection of macro lenses”? How many do you need? I get by fine with just my 100/2.8

          1. Agreed. I have a 90mm tammy and a minolta 200mm, as well as kenko extension tubes. That just about covers any and every macro situation conceivable on this planet.

          2. 60mm f2 tamron macro
            90mm f2.8 taamron. Macro
            180mm f3.8 tamron macro
            70-300 f4- 5.3 sigma apo macro
As I said macros and telephotos are my workhorses.

          3. I have the sony 50, tameron 90 and the 180 3.5 and that’s my favored macro lens it so shaper in don’t like the 90 much doesn’t seem that sharp compared to the 180 tamera

      3. One lens I would like to see for A mount would be a high quality tele-macro-zoom
        Possibly 100-300 f2.8 – 4 MACRO
For what I do that would be a dream lens.
I would love such a lens whether it was 3rd party or sony.
Tamron or Sigma might do well making a lens like that.
Samiyang might do well with that lens with high speed focus.
Since that would be a fairly complex desighn I am not sure if Samayng is ready to build that complicated a lens.

      4. Almost no Sony lenses have weather-sealing, so they ALL need a II version.
        Zeiss primes need SSM.
35 f/1.4 is very old and needs to be updated.
        A whole line of affordable f/4 zooms is a must (17-40, 24-105 and 70-200).

And so on and so forth…

      1. Admin
        This is a fraudulent posting
I did not write this and this person has hijacked my screen name.
Please delete this comment and responce

        1. Admin
          Just kidding. This was me.
I did write this. I have spit personalities.

THERE WILL BE NO A-MOUNT A77 SUCCESSOR!!!

  4. Andrea, do you know how open this Event will be to the general Public? I just happen to be on vacation in London at that time…

    1. The wpa exhibition is definitely open to the public, but I don’t think the ceremony is (guessing that’s where it’ll be announced)

  5. Actually Sony isn’t that bad… I am still waiting for Canon to release a more advanced EOS M 😀 They just need to release a better mirrorless cam because the lenses are there!

    1. the lenses are there? where? they have what? 3 native lenses?

and remember, Canon dont have (well, no one has…) an adaptor like Sony, that provide true PDAF with the pellix mirror, and screw drive AF (this one’s for nikon :P)

    1. Sony execs have stated that IBIS is not possible for FF e-mount bodies. If a-mount goes mirror less, then there will be one or two FF options with IBIS.

      1. That’s an often repeated myth in here, but they have stated no such thing. They stated that the current bodies do not have the formfactor (specifically body depth) to accommodate IBIS. Which leave the option for future bodies or the mount in general, open. The limitations do not come from the mount.

        1. That is what the Sony guys, including Mark Weir, said to my face at photo plus 2013 when I asked them about IBIS & e-mount bodies. So if it is a myth – it comes directly from Sony.

One of the Sony reps stated directly to me that the position of the sensor must be absolute or else the full frame image cannot be captured (because the E-mount space is so tight). Thus (according to these Sony reps) the sensor cannot be shifted for stabilization.

Given that e-mount lenses feature OSS, I think it’s safe to conclude that IBIS isn’t coming.

          1. Odd coming from Mark because the same Mark specifically mentioned body depth of existing cameras being the problem in an interview rather than the mount. And the mount (throat) diameter isn’t as much of a problem as people make it out to be since it’s 9.1 mm larger in diameter than the smallest FF ILC mount out there and the IBIS in the A900 used less than 3 mm linear amplitude.

          2. They didn’t imply, they were direct. One of them said it was impossible (not Mark).

          3. I have yet to see a reason why it is impossible, so until then, I’ll remain sceptical of any claims of reps.

  6. To ADMIN, there has not been any thing new for a month now, so where are the known spec’s at this time of the A77II ? , even if it is SR1, publish them please, or maybe this rumor site will not be the first with the exact spec’s of the A77II ??

  7. Has there been any somewhat reliable rumor on the actual incoming FE lenses? Is it still most likely to be 16-35mm f/4, 35mm f/1.4 and 90 or 100mm f/2.8 macro or something else popped out?

  8. and then in may “A77II pushed to photokina in sept!!”

and then in sept “A77II pushed to CP+ in feb 2015!!”

and then in feb 2015 “A77II pushed to Sony WPA 2015!!”

and then in may 2015 “A77II pushed to photokina in sept 2015!!”

and then in sept 2015 “A77II pushed to CP+ in feb 2016!!”

and then in feb 2016 “A77II pushed to Sony WPA 2016!!”

    etc
    etc
    etc

    1. and then in mar 2016 “Sony officially announces the retirement of the A-mount!”

and then in apr 2016 “Sony forced to revise position, continues development of A-mount under pressure from loyal community”

and then in may 2016 “Sony announces bankruptcy, all assets to be liquidated”

      🙁

      1. Sony has never launched a Semi-Pro (A700, A77) or Pro (A850/A900/A99) DSLR (DSLT) camera in the spring, so I doubt we’ll hear anything before August. What we’re hearing is just hopeful rumours.

        1. At the moment, Sony releases just anything at anytime, but nothing of great value, to my opinion. I wait for a NEX-7 successor without seeing any, I wait for a A77 successor, without seeing any, the world waited for a cheap A mount FF, without seeing any, the world waits for ………….the end of times.

        2. Go back 3 years ago on SAR and the rumors of the a700 successor sounded very similar. It was promised throughout the spring and then a delay was blamed for the eventual November announcement. If it is announced in November hopefully it will be the first model with the stacked sensor.

    1. It’s not a new camera. Its a revision. It’ll look, feel, and probably smell like the current A77.

The specs haven’t changed since May 13. Its has a 32mp sensor optimized for SLT. Its SLT mirror efficiency has increased 33%, and the mirror now only uses of the light 20% (previously is needed 30%).

It will be a welcome upgrade for A77 users, but its not going to be a atom-splitting camera.

        1. Wait another 2.5 to 3 years? If someone needs or wants a camera, what is the point of waiting? Years later, you cannot go back and photograph the missed moments.

  9. I hope the mirror fits in the a77, the a77ii has to be one badass camera for me to make a small up grade better to wait for the full frame A-mounts, but if it has 14 stops of dynamic range the I am going for sure but dought it, it’s still an aspc camera.

    1. It seems like all the APS-C sized pellicle mirrors used in Sony’s SLT cameras have been the same size since the a33 and a55.
Could someone who owns two of the following cameras: a77/a65/a33/a55/a35/a57/a37/a58 please check that?

  10. Since we have been talking macro lenses I would like to know…
What are everyones favourite macros ?

    1. My favorite is the only one I have, the Min 100/2.8 The sharpness is incredible, the distortion not noticeable, the contrast high, and the color excellent. Its weakness is imho the bokeh, it could be smoother. I wonder if anybody uses this lens in autofocus mode–I always use manual focus, and in that respect the lens is lacking–the tiny focus ring just aft of the front element sucks IMO.

      1. 100mm is a very useful length for ff macro.
It allows sufficient distance to the subject.
        Sounds like a good lens.

        1. On a rumor, if i well remember, they were talking about a Sony macro G A-mount for this year. Any news from that ? More important to me than just changing my camera every 2 years !

    2. I have a Minolta 100 and Tamron 90. The focus ring on the Minolta is too small, the Tamron is far better in the field. There is nothing between them on sharpness, the Tamron bokeh makes it a lovely portrait lens too. I would sell my Minolta first, no doubt about that.

    3. I have a lot of success in the field with my Sony 100mm f/2.8. Closer to home in a controlled environment, I have had considerable success with my 300mm f/2.8 and extension tubes. (as you know)

The thing I don’t like about my 100mm macro is the way it changes it shape causing me to bump into the subject.

I saw a demo given by a photographer who owned a Nikon 200mm f/2.8; he was able to take wonderful photos of frogs.

      1. I notice each of your prefferred macros utilize fairly long focal length.
This is quite useful as it allows more distance to the subject.

  11. stuff was the right word to use, since more than 2 years now, in APSC, we see only stuff, a good way to describe useless things. The hell know what Sony users all await for since 2 years without seeing anything, or seeing things that they did not expect or want. A7 was the last inovation in the Sony program, and here we have cameras for few only. When does Sony give an attention to APSC users again. NEX-7, A77 users wait for something to come to update their “stuff”.

      1. I know 2 years is not long,
But sony camera strategy make me
        Losing confidence on the system
Hope the release of A77ii will make
        Me stay in sony

        1. In the view of Sony and the evolution of the market, 2 years is too long. Look 4 years back and see how many new cameras Sony has brought, how many cameras we have seen from Nikon, from Fuji, Oly, Pana. Sony has renewed and renamed it’s complete NEX series and compressed the whole bunch in 3 models, A5000 and A6000, and the fancy A3000 series. In A mount we have seen A58, and that’s it for the APSC level.

For the rest we see a concentration on FF models, lenses for it, what is a need and a must anyway. But, not everybody wants FF.

Now, 2 years after, no renewal for the A77, no renewal, at least not what can be called one, for the NEX-7, that gets sold less and less in pricing day by day and thus loses value without any valuable replacement for it. That is why I wrote a few days ago in a comment that Sony should tell us simply to throw our cameras in the trash and change the brand. We all like cameras to become less expensive when new models emerge, like A6000, but if you buy a camera at 2200$ the body only and 3 month later they sell the same for 1950$, there is something wrong somewhere and those who paid the high price probably jump in the air and say “Yeepie, they get cheaper”. A99 and all A7 get now sold cheaper or with a lot of bling around it to make them attractive. Did they sell so badly before? Why then not sell them 20% cheaper form the first day on. Or does Sony has, after all, a problem somewhere on financial basis?

A Leica might be fair overpriced, but after 20 years you get back what you paid for it. A Sony is a recycle bin item after just 2 years, and if they continue the way they do, it is one after just a few month.

          1. If you are talking about the pricing problem ,
I don’t see it is a serious problem,
As other camera produced by pana,
oly, and even fuji , the price is also droping,
Digital devices are almost the same,
Getting cheap very quickly when new come
            The price may lose value,
but you still can take good picture with it,
Right?the important thing is make good use of it

          2. Prices are lowered to increase lower than expected sales. Why not set a lower price from the beginning? Well, then they would never know if sales would be strong with a higher price. Better to set a higher price first, and then adjust the price according to demand.
The comparison with Leica isn’t entirely apt. Luxury products aren’t sensitive to market forces in the same way as consumer products.

      2. Established companies can afford longer time scales as there is no concern with CaNikon dropping their users when something else comes along. Sony swap strategies every week and long gaps with no significant A-mount announcements makes us loyal users twitchy.

    1. What do you want, wise ass? A camera release every day?

Are you that much of an ineffectual photographer that you need the best possible equipment to make up for your suckage?

I hate how people keep slamming Sony for NON ISSUES!!!

      1. Some people show by what they write what level of education they have. The way you answer need no further additional comment. It reflects without any doubt who you are and what you are.

I am just 53 years behind a camera, have traveled through more than 80 countries, lived in 6 different countries and I doubt that you have even reached that age. So, do not give your name and status to others.
