There is bug with the recently announced Tethered Plugi-In for Adobe and the HS-V5 software. In fact, Fujifilm shared the information on their site here (translation), that the tethered plug-in can lead to data loss under certain conditions.
[google translated] “Phenomenon that announcement, camera USB mode configuration is connected to the computer remains of MTP of initial setting (PTP), When you start the HS-V5 or tethered shooting plug-ins, DCIM folder that has been recorded in the camera’s memory card or things that the data in the folder is lost.”
The Adobe plug-in is still not available for downlaod at Fujifilm.com. Follow FR on facebook, google+, RSS-feed and twitter, and I’ll let you know as soon as Fujifilm has sorted out the bug and releases the Tethered Plug-In for Adobe.

ABobe? I guess, ADobe…
corrected, thanks
I wonder if someone could help with a question that I have? I want to tether my X-T1. Do I need to purchase Fujifilm HS V5 software and then download the plug-in or can I just conect the camera using only the plug-in without purchasing HS V5?
HS V5 software needs to be bought
But the plugin itself can work standalone.
Fujifilm really needs to take better ownership of all software-related development inside and outside of the X-series. They are really not the only camera-manufacturer to perform surprisingly weak in this area – so a flawlessly-managed product support will become the major differentiator versus competition not caring at all for their users. Take the RAW conversion issues in Lr (how long persisting now – if Fuji would second a small team of X-trans specialists a few days at San Jose all related issues would get off the radar for thé major software developer in the photography & graphical sector, broadening the X-series sales potential with easily 80%), the painstaking Wifi-interface features of the X-T1/X E2 (this just doesn’t work, I suspect this was just a hobby-project of someone in the R&D team), the firmware coding related to TTL-flash control (an implementation lagging years behind anything in the DSLR world) and now this tethering story…
Even more, the whisper campaign that it is the software company’s ‘fault’ that the raw (and other) processing does not work has backfired. Customers don’t want to get caught up in a blame game, they just need to know their most popular software and skills works seamlessly with whatever photo hardware they buy.
Your point about reset and meeting together to ensure from the start that any new cameras are 100% supported from launch is apropos. Another three year learning curve is not tolerable in 2015 when there is so much competition, and that competition so much cheaper.
Fujifilm has never been good at software coding. Recall the garbage that was Hyper Utility, HS-V3. Good god but that was a piece of trash. Fujifilm could never make that program run well, after years of trying. It was no surprise at all that when the X cameras arrived, that Hyper Utility was gone, replaced by (laugh) SilkyPix. Of douse, SilkyPix was a terrible program in its own right, not even remotely suitable for pros.
I agree with another poster that the time is now to get the software right. Fujifilm can’t rely upon their usual tactics of blaming others. Canon and absolutely 1st class software. There is no reason why Fujifilm can’t have that as well, except for sheer laziness. Or incompetence.
Japanese and software… are a lot like Germans and electricity. They cannot grasp the concept fully. Scary, alien concept, which does not quite work for them despite all the efforts.
That’s the same story in many industries not only cameras manufacturers- they’re good at hardware in their specialist area; a notch down in the firmware needed to power said hardware and abysmally bad as soon as we talk about software in relation to their core product; Hardware engineers hardly talk to software developer who in turn are sh*t-scared of the hardware people.
That’s exactly the story I am currently living at one of my majors customer sites. And it is not only annoying but also dangerous for the business.
Question, Is that a Japanese business practice or Japanese business model you are refering to? They didn’t exactly practice the same business model as other global companies prior their crash. How much of their programming is contracted?
We as users shouldn’t be caring. Whether Fujifilm develops of outsources development serves, it’s the final result that counts. I cannot imagine that the R&D dept developed the X-trans array without knowing themselves very well how to demosaïc the RAW files it produces. But about all the rest, I’m sure it has been in a balance of priorities. I think time has come now to deliver a product that has no longer problem issues & quirks. The same wave of improvement that went over the rest of the concept & firmware should go through the whole concept now, from the in-camera stuff to everything around it, including a decent accessory-line of pro-flashes.
I use it in “PC” mode. Don’t need the Adobe plugin. It works just fine without an adobe plugin. I use the same Adobe tether input folder that I use for my 5d mk3. HV-5 isn’t pretty, but it gets the job done. I can use Linux without a GUI. I suppose that it will become more stylish later on. Right now, its functional.
Fuji, it is the worst English translation I have read in many years. It is 2015, there must be somebody available for hire with some basic English for you, right?
