This could be a cool idea for your next X-wedding (or any kind of party): take a Fuji X (in this case the Fuji X-E2), 2x Yongnuo YN-560 MkIV speedlites, a Manfrotto BeFree Tripod, a Canon Selphy printer (or Fuji’s little SP-1 printer) and a few more things, and set up Photo Booth, where guests can take funny photos alone and print them on the spot.
You can read all the instructions at antonionunes. At the end, how did it turn out? antonionunes says:
“It was lots of fun. Guests really got into the fun and silly self-portrait thing, and the results were hilarious. Also, in the end, the Bride and Groom had this cute book full of happy shots and warm words, which is something I’m sure they’ll treasure.
The first feedback and suggestion comes from our Forum, where Mark G says at the Fuji X Wedding Photography Chat:
“If the client pays for the (mostly) outrageously expensive printing paper, it would be a great idea. That said, for photo booths, I’d prefer 1 cheap strobe… just easier than changing batteries on the hotshoe flashes.”

Speaking of weddings: those who follow FujiRumors on facebook and twitter already know that I live in an apartment over a courtyard of a wine tavern. There are weddings almost every weekend there and I still have to see an X-shooter as an official photographer (hey… are you out there??). It’s always Canon and Nikon… but I’m confident this will change in the next wedding season with the Fujifilm X-PRO2 🙂 .

This idea is not really new, is being done on a pretty large scale already.
Not only with a Fuji. Still nice though.
Patrick,
Where is the news?
I mean where is the real news concerning Fuji, Panasonic and Toshiba that was talked about a few weeks ago?
Or better yet, where is the new about the X-Pro 2?
I’ve never seen this on a wedding before… but I was just at maybe 8 weddings until now. Anyway, maybe it’s still useful for some out there.
joofei at the Chinese Forum said there would be an announcement. If this does not happen, then we can consider all the rest he said unreliable, too.
X-PRO2? Don’t miss to read FR this week 😉
Speaking of which, any more word on that joint announcement of Fuji, Panasonic, and Toshiba? It’s mid-September already, and it’s starting to look like a bad rumor. It really intrigued me, too. 🙁
I’ll be interested in X-PRO2 only if Fuji creates a new and improved 18mm f2.0 lens otherwise I’ll just wait for the successor of x100t
Why not just take a standard Instax camera? For the ordinary “we create a wedding book live all together”, it is good enough and less complex. I would just hand-out an Instax camera to the guests and let them shoot by themselves.
I don’t think this is necessarily about creating “a wedding book live all together.” It’s about one way to set up a portable photo booth with an option to print on the spot. I can actually think of a few reasons not to use Instax cameras for this. 1) Image Quality. Instax cameras are fun, but they’re hardly a match for Fuji X IQ, and they aren’t that great in indoor/low light situations. There’s also a bit of a learning curve in composing shots with the Instax camera viewfinder because of the lack of parallax correction. You’ll likely end up with a lot of rejected prints to discard at the end of the night. 2) Instax film is really expensive–roughly 75 cents a print, give or take. There’s also only 10 shots per film cartridge, so you’d be swapping cartridges a lot. With a digital setup, guests are free to take as many shots as they want, but only print copies of the ones they like. 3) Guests might want the option to print multiple copies of the same image. 4) Guests might want to send themselves digital copies to post on social media, etc.
I did almost exactly what is described in the post for my own. I switched the flashes for just one huge softbox attached to a studio strobe, added aa eyefi WiFi sd card, router and an iPad with shuttersnitch, so the guests could review the photos and print the good ones. I did all that with a X-T1 and yongnuo-602.
Turned out really cool, the later the evening the better the pictures.
