RUMOR: Fuji X Flash delayed because of Metz insolvency! (New Source)

 photo ddddd_zpsga0rmo0s.png

Flash Photography with the Fuji X system?
It can be done, but more flash-options are needed!

_ _ _

I’ve just received an email from a new source, with a bad news. And I’m afraid it’s true!

The source said that, during a Fuji event in Canada, a Fuji Guy told him that the long expected (and urgently needed) flash will be delayed, hence not come this spring as told us last year by a trusted source.

So was the trusted source wrong? No, it wasn’t. It’s just another case of a rumor shared too early. Fuji’s plan really was to launch this flash (rumored to be made by Metz) in spring, but the insolvency of Metz has changed everything…. the release of the flash has been pushed back.

I have no information about the fact if Fuji will continue to cooperate with Metz or if they are looking for a new partner, altough there are hints that they are looking at companies like Sunpak (see Sunpack Flash on Amazon).

stay tuned,

  1. Please FUJI, go with GODOX. A Fuji TTL version of their V860 flash (which has the awesome lithium-ion battery, HHS capability and on-camera flash power management). The flash already exists, all you have to do it cooperate with them for the ttl part.

  2. Sunpak is already the manufacturer of most Fuji flashes. They make good devices, but not very innovative compared to Canon/Nikon.
I hope Fuji won’t give up cooperating with Metz. They need to build a strong professional flash lineup.

  3. Is this the reason FW 4.0 does not mention anything at all about flash improvements ? X-T1 needs another FW update (5.0?) to fix (create) a proper flash system (some way of doing high speed sync, commander mode etc) but I guess there has to be a Fuji flash released as well. It doesn’t make sense to sell the EF-42 as “top of the line”. It is barely a “meh” flash

  4. Glad I bought the Nissan I-40 when I did. I would like to see Fuji work with Nissan, they could incorperate NAS (Nissan Air System) so we could have radio transmission at very resonable price.

  5. Metz filed for insolvency last November and the assets are still being assessed, I see it as an opportunity for Fuji to buy all or part of them or their ip for pennies on the dollar (not the TV division) and take control of their own flash/lighting future. It would be nice. Metz is trying to restructure and their TV division is the one that has a possibility of them being profitable, not the flash div. FujiFilm Holdings is very large and profitable and their chemical division with the new Avigan anti virus drug could make the required amount in a day if it’s drug trials versus Ebola continue to be successful.

  6. Here’s an idea. Fuji used to use Nikon bodies (re-labeled with Fuji software running them) and Nikon lens mounts in the past, so how about they let Nikon make a flash for them? 😉 I’d love to see a Nikon-like flash system for Fuji. Even that little Nikon SB-500 I have for my Df is really great and works so well with a Nikon body. It makes flash easy even for a flash novice like me.

    1. Considering Nikon refused to sell them bodies beyond the D200 (S5 in Fuji speach) I very much doubt they would sell their flash system

    2. Metz was going to keep the price down but offers the same function and quality. Nikon is more of a competitor than partner.

  7. I use the FlexTT5 Transceiver with the MiniTT1 and AC3 Zone Controller mounted on
my fuji XT 1with any SB 900 or SB700 and i can control my flash on manual mode from a distance .Very happy.
