Good news from Tokyo: Fujifilm has been expediting their efforts to provide lens firmware updates in order to fully support the new X-E2 with its PDAF/CDAF hybrid autofocus system and lens modulation optimizer. Click here to learn more about these features and read my First Look on the X-E2.
Here’s the plan:
On November 7, Fuji hopes to roll out PDAF and LMO firmware updates to the following lenses:
- XF14mmF2,8 R (V. 3.10)
- XF35mmF1.4 R (V. 3.10)
- XF60mmF2.4 R Macro (V. 3.10)
- XF18-55mmF2.8-4 R LM OIS (V. 3.10)
- XF55-200mmF3.5-4.8 R LM OIS (V. 3.10)
- XC16-50mmF3.5-5.6 OIS (V. 1.10, PDAF update only, no LMO support)
By the end of November, Fuji plans to offer updates to the remaining XF lenses:
- XF18mmF2 R (V. 3.10)
- XF27mmF2.8 (V. 1.10)
The XF23mmF1.4 R supports PDAF and LMO out of the box with firmware 1.00, so no update is required.
The new XC50-230mmF4.5-6.7 OIS supports PDAF out of the box, too (firmware 1.00). However, there will be no LMO support for XC lenses.
X-E2 kits sold with the XF18-55mmF2.8-4 R LM OIS kit zoom include lenses that have already been updated to firmware 3.10.
Of course, all future Fujinon XF lenses will automatically come with full PDAF and LMO support, and future XC lenses will support the PDAF.
Still no word if or when Zeiss will offer PDAF and/or LMO support for their Touit lenses.
Please note that these dates are semi-official, so they may still change. As usual, you heard it here first.
By the way, the tiny XQ1 contains an LMO, as well, and I’ve spent a few hours earlier today taking a bunch of sample images. Click here to access the sample set on Flickr.

Seem to be some text missing. I can’t see what lenses are updated when, it just says what firmware version.
@Pär: Read the text above the lens list… 🙂
@JK the text above the lens list still doesn’t say what lenses are being updated. The lens names are completely gone. This is terrible editing.
Strange, I have no problem seeing the lens names and dates, they are even printed in boldface. Hm…
The text is now visible, thanks.
Can anyone confirm that the X-E2 *main* body is identical to the X-E1? Everything I’ve read suggests that’s the case, but I’d like something more definite. Thanks.
I understand PDAF and LMO will not work for X-E1. But what about other features? Will there be an update?
I thought there was going to be a firmware update for the X-Pro1 and X-E1 so that they would support the “minimum shutter speed”option for Auto ISO. Has Fuji abandoned that now that the X-E2 is the new kid on the block?
Yeah, it is really disappointing and surprising that they keep ignoring that. If they would just give a firmware update for minimum shutter speed settings in auto ISO, I would be satisfied until the X-Pro 2 comes out. However, it seems they may be holding out on that to influence people to buy the new cameras. I won’t be buying the X-E2, or any of the entry-level cameras, as I bought into the system in part because I love the size and design of the X-Pro 1. So, this strategy is not going to work with me, while it may for others. In my opinion, it is almost rude that they haven’t given us that, as it is a feature that should have been there all along (it was included in the X100) and it has been the most requested features for over a year now. When I was looking into buying the X-Pro 1 about a year ago, one of my friends, who had one at the time, said it’s a nice camera, but it’s missing decent raw support and Minimum Shutter Speed Settings in Auto ISO, which is a shame. Now that there is decent raw support, this missing feature remains the only real “but” for someone considering an X-Pro 1 orX-E1. While they may not sell anymore of those models, as the X-E2 is out now and the X-Pro 2 is overdue, it would be very much appreciated if they give us first-generation supporters minimum shutter speed settings in auto ISO, even if that is the last upgrade they give us. I would very much appreciate it, as I plan on using my X-Pro 1 along with an X-Pro2 (assuming it will come out soon with significant improvements) in the future, and that feature is a must-have feature.
i think the same, they will do update our x-e1 one or few more times, but we need to wait untill old stock of x-e1 will be gone.
I’m also a bit sad they haven’t release the XE1 fiirmware update yet, as well as better focus peaking (e.g. colour choices). I don’t think abandoned will necessarily happen – they updated the X100 well after the X100s came out. As long as they don’t make the XE1 “better” than the XE2 they won’t shoot themselves in the foot for sales. Given the hardware differences, that seems an unlikely problem.
This page is crashing my FireFox 🙁
No, actually it is the home page which has the problem, not this article
+ to the firmware updated of xe1 n pro1. Only feature new model has which would benefit me is faster af and frankly im waiting for 56 1.2 and 3rd gen cameras to up grade. I am enjoying mf with assisted focus peaking but it needs some work.
DTB and ShawnS, I am also disappointed no firmware was released or announced that address the X-Pro1 and X-E1 lack of minimum shutter speed settings in auto ISO and of coloured peaking. The latter particularly irritates me as I focus a lot in manual mode (with adapted manual-focus lenses).
I think from a technical point of view there should not be major obstacles to implement these features. On another forum I enquired about this with Rico and he suggests we send our feedback/requests about these to Fuji. The more we are, the more likely they will take us seriously.
Pathetic that fuji doesn’t seem willing to update and support the x pro!
It was a beta software camera when released and although many upgrades have made it a better product it is still rather crippled compared to even its cheaper lower end siblings.
The inability to have any sort of interval shooting is inexcusable, the malfunctioning auto iso, poor video mode, lack of customizable buttons and no way to control the EVF is a joke for a camera that has pro in its name.
I full out agree, us early risk takes invested in fuji and a year and two years later being left out in the cold.. These cameras are still amazing pieces of hardware with way more potential and i play fuji doesnt overlook that to push new cameras.
It’s unacceptable for a product at that price range to be released with so many bugs and problems.
QA/QC clearly aren’t something that Fuji values and software (like many Japanese companies) is still poorly understood and implemented.
Japanese companies know and are excellent at building great hardware but massively FAIL when it comes to software.
Huh?! At most you could argue before fw 2.0 the X-Pro1 wasn’t fully refined, but we’ve had several fw updates just this year for it. Other manufacturer’s don’t do *any* updates, let alone ones with improvements (think down button for AF, focus peaking, etc. – all new features!).
I am immensely happy and grateful Fuij has been upgrading the X-Pro – if I’d buy a camera today, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy the X-Pro1 again, which is amazing for an almost 2 year old model – for me it’s just awesome!
If you’re really that unhappy it doesn’t have every feature you wish for (like min shutter speed), then you could always buy the X-E2 😉
The X Pro is SUPPOSED to be the flagship top end product, it’s a pathetic joke that the cheaper lower end model(s) have features the flagship “PRO” doesn’t.
Perhaps if Fuji focused on releasing refined cameras with properly tested software rather than saturating the market with god knows how many XF mount bodies.
I expect the price of the X-Pro1 to decrease, there should be some quite interesting offers in order to clear remaining stock.
PDAF & LMO upgrade to lenses in November.
hi everyone,
this is my first post in this forum. I’ve been an X-Pro1 and an XE-1 user for about a year and love the camera to bits esp. after the last firmware.
I’m going to Japan for a holiday in Nov and since the XE-2 will not arrive in my country till then, I was thinking of buying the XE-2 in Japan.
However as I’m going on holiday there and in the event I’m unable to get it there I will need to fall back on my current X-Pro1/XE1.
If I upgrade all my current lenses (14/18-55/35/60/55-200) to the latest firmware, will there be any issue using it on the XE-1. Logically it shouldn’t be (just like software) but would like all your opinions nevertheless, please.
Thanks..
