USA: After the GX7 also price drops on the GH3 (-$200) G6 (-$100) and GF6 (-$100).

Last week Panasonic surprisingly lowered the GX7 price by $100 (here at Amazon, Adorama, Samys and BHphoto). But today also the other most recent cameras got a huge price drop:

GH3 got $200 off at Amazon, Adorama, Samys and BHphoto. A special mention goes to Samys because they also give you a Lowepro case, 32GB SD and a $50 gift card for free!
G6 got $100 off at Amazon, Adorama, Samys and BHphoto.
GF6 got $100 off at Amazon, Adorama, Samys and BHphoto.

Basically Panasonic US decided to lower the price of all four new G/GH/GF and GX camera. These kind of general price drops didn’t happen in Europe yet.

      1. Obviously they have had a major rethink on how to compete, and price is part of that.

Goes along with dropping cheap compacts etc. At the moment, only the well informed and researched have a reason to take these cams seriously over a cheap DSLR. So they have to compete hard on price.

        1. +1. Agree that whenever you have a product (huge library of amazingly small, bright, high-optical-quality lenses) that requires a brain and an open-mind to understand and can’t be (incorrectly) explained in two words (BIG SENSOR!) or called “sexy” or “retro”, your sales are gonna suffer. People are morons, and yet that’s what the market has.

    1. If GH5 were on the close horizon, we’d probably know it. This just seems like a normal, periodic price drop by the company, or some of its regional subs. As an example, there was a similar situation last July, when I got my GH3 for $1048 from B&H – others had the same deal at the time.

  1. Preparations for the FF-Nex Launch?

FF-NEX Announcement will be great for us all. Either we buy it, or
it will force µFT to drop the prices.

  2. mFT mass prices drop only went for Pana .
Look at Olympus , prices remain steady .
Really don’t know what went wrong to Pana cams ?
Not a wise way to do business like this , my dear Pana .

    1. I don’t mind that Panasonic isn’t emulating Leica’s pricing strategy. Those price drops are not bad news and were somewhat predictable.
GH3 just reached 1000$. That’s a great camera for the price, and that was the starting price of the GH2, if I remember well. As a camera for video, GH3 price was OK at 1200$. However, if they want to sell it also for still shooters, they had to lower the price compared to EM-1/EM-5/GX7. Also it is more than 1 year old, and it has some drawbacks even for video (no focus peaking).
As for the G6 and GF6, they’re on a one year cycle and use old sensors compared to their competition in m43, so of course they’ll drop fast. G6 is still great value, but of no use to collectors.
The only price drop I find a bit confusing is the GX7 one. That’s a nicely featured camera with top IQ in its system. Pricing was good compared to Olympus. I think that they lowered its price mostly because of competition outside the system (Sony Nex 6).

        1. And that was my point! Sorry I wasn’t clear enough.
The point of buying a camera is to take pictures with it, not to try selling it just before the price goes down.

  3. We are waiting for these drops here in Europe…
We are already overpriced in respect of US because prices usaully are 1euro=1dollar, but on change 1 dollar=0.75euro !!!!

    1. +1

freaking ridiculous that a GX7 costs 662€ in the US and 999 in Europe, even counting in 20% taxes in EU, its 170€ cheaper in the US…

        1. No, they have much higher overheads and it costs more to employ people so that you can have better welfare benefits, free or cheaper healthcare and good pensions

    2. And it is 100$ more expensive in Canada (1000$ body-only) than in USA. To be fair, it was the same price at the beginning, but we didn’t get the price cut here.

      1. Henry’s still lists the GX7 body at $1099. It will match Aden at $999 but with an additional $60 that Henry’s claims Aden charges in Canada and the US for shipping.

  4. … And beat and throw across the room, after realizing that your newly-bought Panny junk, already depreciated by AT LEAST TWO BENJAMINS!

It’s not even competition that’s driving the value of these overhyped/overpriced G-series. It’s the LACK FOR DEMAND.

Just like Sony’s miniaturized NEX bodies, A FAILURE TO REALIZE that it’s not a pocket camera once you attach them obnoxious lens! Even paired w/ a pancake lens, a FujiSoPanOly mirrorless becomes too bulky for someone’s shirt/pants pocket! Jacket pocket… AT BEST!

All these mirrorless HYPE are at least $300 overpriced, which deter consumers from ditching DSLR.

DSLR will continue to prevail, get cheaper, and catch up to PDAF/CDAF technology.
Smartphones will evolve with better lens and processor, which will fill up the gap that DSLR can’t.

Mirrorless cams, regardless of their SO-CALL VIDEO SUPERIORITY, will continue to be a novelty item that NO ONE WILL SERIOUSLY ACCEPT.

By the time FujiSoPanOly matured their PDAF/CDAF/VIDEO muscle (and stabilize an acceptable consumer price), the CaNikon giants would’ve perfected the same tech at FAR CHEAPER PRICES.

The true winner behind these mirrorless wars: SONY. Sony can decide to stop making cameras and lenses and will continue to become profitable for the ONE REASON alone: Sensor.

    1. “…after realizing that your newly-bought Panny junk”

That statement alone discredits anything more you have to say.

Tell me, you think Apple is doomed and that Andriod rules the world…..

    2. ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES!

There is only one MR ALLCAPS, and I am he. Please exclude this morons Ranting.
Sounds like he’s a APS-C DSLR owner, and is starting to feel insecure about the GH3….

      1. These are pathetic leaches who live in their parent’s basement and derive all their self-worth from a sense of camera exclusivity. In an earlier time they would have been the ham-fisted trolls who scolded folks with horseless carriages. Good riddance to camera mirrors and the past.

    3. You are obviously not aware that Sony sensor division is separate from the imaging division and they are run as separate companies and both have to make a profit to survive.

    4. “Mirrorless cams, regardless of their SO-CALL VIDEO SUPERIORITY, will continue to be a novelty item that NO ONE WILL SERIOUSLY ACCEPT.”

The mirror box has served photography very well over many years.
On-sensor focussing and EVF technology is improving rapidly and will likely render the mirror box obsolete some time in the future.
As mirrorless technology matures, it will also be cheaper than the more mechanically complex mirror box.
Mirrorles is not a novelty. It’s popularity will only grow in the future as the cost-benefit of the mirror box diminishes.

    5. Yeah lack of demand…thats why for months as soon as a shipment came in it was sold out, because of lack of demand. Hey ist olympus offering 200 $ off also on the not yet released em1? And 100 $ on the ep5?
      Fantards are hilarious

      1. Err, no actually. Olympus are offering $200 off the 12-40mm lens.
And that’s not to disadvantage people who cannot buy them together as a kit where the price is cheaper.
All digital cameras pretty much fall in price over time and as the trolls are always telling us, m43 is overpriced.
So, once the early adopters have paid an inflated price the cameras start to drop to a more realistic price. This happens with all manufacturer’s.

  5. I am getting older and it is because of those mirorless cameras that i can still carry a full system in my bag with ease : 2 zooms and 3 primes … with a G6 . Why this one ? Swivel (not only tilting) screen , light , silent when needed (electronic shutter) and included viewfinder + handle. The G5 also had those but the 6 is better in several ways .

Instead of going after the elusive best IQ possible, i chose the best ergonomic for me with most polyvalence and sufficient IQ .

As for looking as a less serious photographer , i see it as the extra advantage of being less noticable.

  6. I love these discussions. Great fun.
Except maybe the fact that the first half-assed digital cameras are now maybe 22 years old (and utterly uncollectable scap) and so these conversations are still mostly dust in the wind. No one knows where any of this tech is going. Certainly not Canon or Nikon or Leica or Hasselblad. And, Lordie, Panasonic has like Sony done very poorly guessing correctly in their actual areas of electronic expertise. Why would they do any better with cameras?
The biggest single camera model ever sold was the iPhone 5. And my iPhone 5S got off to an even faster sales spurt. Cameras now require (almost by law!) Facebook/Instagram/blog direct uploading capacity.
My EM-1 (and not at all my the “older” OMD) can’t even directly access the web! Let alone post anything seamlessly. Like I’m doing here on this iP5S.
So what the heck does matter? Oh. The images!!!!

  7. because of the 10bit 899 USD $ BMC C POKET..???

oh no 2099 the supperiority of a camera was
4 bit much pixxoles and much muchos programos

  8. And the former big MARKET
    USA is out of MONEY!!!
    every second American has
no job, no money and does not
    think about CHRISTMASS….
    and a cam.

something to eate maybe a home…

third::: if the superior cam ( gh-3)
is sooo good for what do you change
    a winning team?

for se srillll in the shopping mal ???
