XF 16mmF1.4 and 90mmF2 will be Weather Sealed too (and join the 35mmF2 WR prime lens)! – source: Fuji Guy Greg

 photo asd_zpsoambrlu9.png

What a day! Fuji just unveiled the new Roadmap here, said that the XF 35mmF2 will be weather sealed... and now this:

In an interview with Greg from the Fuji Guys, bigheadtaco was able to get the following information:

“ I asked Greg why no prime WR lenses and he said they are coming soon. He mentioned the new 90mm f/2 and the 16mm f/1.4 are going to be WR lenses, but the lens roadmap doesn’t mention it.“

So the weather resitant prime familiy will consist in the XF16mmF1.4, XF90mmF2 and XF35mmF2.

You want to know more about it? Well, all you have to do is to stay tuned at FujiRumos… and thanks, nice spot Jonavin 😉

  1. The 3 prime “must have” lenses in combination with the WS X-T1. Fast, light and prime WS lenses sound like a new territory that many photographers would like to explore. I would! This is great news, Patrick. Thanks! The future along Fujifilm sounds good!

    1. They should have both the f2 and the 1.4 (although I would prefer 1.2). Different tools for different photographer’s needs. I won’t buy an F2 but I would buy a 1.2 as an upgrade/replacement of my current 1.4.

      1. Oposite to me – I am street shooter and need discretion, so I prefer small, fast lenses, that’s why I am not interested in f/1.2-1.4 big ones at all. I tried 56/1.2 and 24/1.4 with X-E2 (great RF styled cam for street) but they just do not work for it – too big and slow AF. Agree, Fuji should have both the f2 for street and dicreet shooting, and the f/1.2-1.4 for studio and other needs.

      2. The 1.4 is a fine lens and 1.2 is only 1/3 a stop and 1.4 to F 2 is one full stop. Yes some need the 1/3 stop but 1/3 well cost 400.00 +

        1. A lot of people pay for 1/3 stop. How many Canon people get the 50 f1.2? The 35 costs over $400 and I imagine a 1.2 would certainly cost more. I doubt they’ll do it but I would prefer it. Same reason I’m glad they did the 56 1.2 instead of 1.4.

Either way, Fuji will have both options because they suit different needs. Eventually they’ll update the 35 f1.4 in some manner.

  2. A 90 WR will be nice to have. Small 35 too. Wide is not really my bag. Nice to see them going the WR route. I do hope that going forward, all high end lenses will be WR, and same goes for the bodies. The next X100 really needs it.

  3. Very interesting news – but also funny how the Fuji 16mm 1.4 confirmation comes the same day as Sigma announces the 24mm f/1.4 ART lens. I can’t be the only one with more than one camera system shooting night skies and northern lights.

I will be torn between buying a 24mm equivalent for Fuji or Canon – and I guess reviews will determine which path to take. Either way my Canon 24mm f/1.4 II will be sold if any of these two lenses have better coma control and wide open sharpness, which I suspect they will both have.

    1. Check out the Samyang (Rokinon) 12mm f/2 NCS CS (Fuji X mount) if you intersted in astrophotography. Excellent lens with a very affordable price.

  4. Do you mean the 35mm being f/2 rather than f/1.4? It might be a different lens design and it’ll probably be cheaper it’s just more options. It looks more compact too.

    1. Sorry, I meant why isn’t the 16 at f/2 like the others. I’m just curious behind Fuji’s choice. From reading the comments I understand why 35 is f/2 v. 1.4. Just wondering if the same thing (size, price, speed) would apply to 16 f/2 instead of f/1.4 or is there something about the wide angle that folks would prefer that extra stop.

  5. If they make more compact lenes like the 35mm f/2, I will go back to Fuji again. Had the X-E1 but there were too many quirks so I sold it.
