Peter Manship: Hand held, here is the story..
I was out shooting with my Fuji XT-1 with the 18-55 kit lens just as the sun went down. I have wanted to see what this amazing mirrorless piece of technology could do….This image was taken between 7:30 – 8pm EST last night… HAND HELD using a super high ISO setting just to see what the camera could do….and boy was I surprised, not only is it sharp but auto white balance setting yielded beautiful color and the correct white light color…but most surprising is the fact that at 3200 ISO there isn’t any noise. I continue to be very impressed with this cameras performance. You might say, what does all this mean? It matters because, I always want to have the best tools for capturing images with in my hands. I did this test not knowing what I would get for a result. What I found out I don’t think I could match even with my Nikon D800 (a great Camera in its own right) thats what is very surprising to me…..you would have to look long and hard to match the Fuji XT-1’s performance and it’s a beautiful jpeg image file straight out of camera ….Note: I am not sponsored but Fuji film in case your wondering, This is just to give someone out there the info that might make a difference

I call this image..:”Happy Holidays on the farm Vermont style”,

Jorge Moro‎: These images are of the famous Rockland Maine Lobster Tree. The “building” of this behemoth is accomplished by volunteers in the weeks leading up to the Thanksgiving Weekend lighting event. The tree building is now in it’s eleventh year! New lobster traps are provided by a company that manufacturers them; they are stacked and then zip tied together. Keep in mind each trap is approximately 40 pounds. The garland and lights are added as are the lobster floats. Each lobsterman in town is represented by one float. At the end of the holidays there is a $50.00 raffle that will win you ALL the lobster traps! Santa arrives on Friday after Thanksgiving; this year he arrived in a gorgeous 1953 Red Convertible Thunderbird. Last year: trolley. There is free hot cider, hot chocolate for everyone; Christmas caroling, bands, Santa’s workshop for the kids; and at 6pm after a countdown Santa lights up the tree! Kids absolutely love this event, and so do the adults, me included. This is my third year attending.

If you want to see how this tree is actually put up TMC had a special you can watch on you tube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIbZP8pRoUM
It’s only 5 minutes, well worth watching

  1. Some of these pictures are good. Some are poor (sorry, it is what it is). There’s unfortunately only one I would classify under ‘professional’. But most of all, is any of them so Fuji-specific? All of them could have been made with any brand/premium camera line. X-shooters aren’t worse or better than other photographers, Facebook & the web is really full of pictures made to proof that one or another brand does so much better… while in fact the differences get smaller and smaller in the 2014 premium arena and to step up to a more significant, higher level, a lot of money has to be paid.

  2. Nice pix.

The problem with the Fuji is their pix start falling apart when you push the X.

I have 6 Fujis and 4 Leicas. Really, the Fuji’s do about the same or better than the M240. What determines what I use is if the cam will be damaged or destroyed. Fuji’s are disposable – Leica’s are not.

Leica uses 2nd rate sensors in the cams. What I like about Leica is the manual controls, not the sensor. The 240 sensor is ‘just’ doable for my work. Although the MM has a nicer sensor.

What Fuji needs to do is to make an X with an X-E1 style 28 mp organic sensor and also a FF 28 to 36 mp Leica rangefinder knockoff for $2500 to $3000.

Fuji need to make a sensor that is more ‘film like’ A sensor that has pure blacks like film so the blacks are not all clumped up with noise as digital BW are. We don’t necessary need sharper and higher mp sensors. A sensor that was truly organic and had pixels like film grain would be something.

A sharper higher mp image just looks plastic. For film look you need less sharpness, not more. Flatbed scanned 35mm film is about 4 mp, it is not 36 mp.

Now, Fuji does not have to scrap the X sensor. All I’m saying is to make more sensor options available. If a photog wants slick high mp files fine. If they want low res film files then they can go that route. But Fuji needs to offer both options.

This is a Leica MM shot. Yes, the MM can produce nice film like files. But it takes lots of work. Even then, the MM only goes so far.

We also need a FF 6mp back for the Hasselblad. Something around $3000 to put on the SWC.
