Olympus will launch a new line of f/1.2 lenses at CP+

The patent image above shows Olympus f/1.0 prime lens designs.

So far only Panasonic released a faster than f/1.4 MFT prime lens (the Nocticron 42,5mm f/1.2). After that we got no other super fast (autofocus!) lens. There where some f/1.2 patents from Sigma, f/1.0 from Olympus and another f/1.2 patent from Panasonic. But what’s coming for real?

Well Olympus sources confirmed a new line of fast f/1.2 prime lenses will be announced at CP+. The new f/1.2 prime roadmap will show 2-3 prime lenses with different release times.

Reminder: The 300mm PRO f/4.0 Olympus lens will be announced on January 6.

  1. This is four thirds all over again. Focus on pro glass but for what?

How about some small primes like the 20/1.7 that are actually sharp in the corners and don’t focus like a turtle?

    1. I could not agree more. I ll take F1.7 or F 2.0 max apertures with great quality across the frame any day over f1.2 lenses

    2. I agree. They should focus on their pricing, otherwise it looks like 4/3 all over again. m43 pricing should be FIRMLY UNDER APS-C COMPETITION, by a significant margin. There is a market there. Both in developed and especially developing countries. Otherwise people will just continue to buy Rebels.

  2. Going to the 4/3 org site you’ll easily find the native 0.95 lenses made by Voigtlander, of which the 25mm was the first 0.95 lens offered by them since 2010!

  3. “So far only Panasonic released a faster than f/1.4 MFT prime lens”

There are plenty of MF “faster than f/1.4 MFT prime lenses”, all the way to f/0.95.

With AF lenses, only Panasonic released anything faster than f/1.8 actually.
