Leaked! The new entry-level Canon EOS-M camera!

canon_new_eosm_f001

Digicameinfo just leaked the first image of the soon to be announced new Canon EOS-M entry-level camera! There is also a new compact EF-M15-45mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM lens.

Canon previously confirmed they would launch a new EOS-M camera in October. It has to be seen if the new toy will be actually sold worldwide or just in some countries like it happened first with the EOS-M3.

  1. to small for US/Europe – I’d say Japan only. But I’d like to have the lens. Next : EOS 800D electronics in a DSLR like body with EVF instead of mirror and EF-M mount.

    1. How about an A7 competitor? Or an A6000 competitor? Or an RX1/Leica Q competitor? Or a [you name it] competitor? In short, anything that is actually competitive.

(I’m talking about cameras only, the Canon lens lineup is top notch.)

  2. A brand new small and plain entry level camera with an exciting f3.5-6.3 kit lens. It’s great to see Canon finally take the mirrorless market seriously. Pay attention Sony – this is how you take a market by storm.

        1. Thanks for clarifying that 😀 I read it and was wondering if you actually meant an entry-level EOS-M with “by storm”… I switched from Canon to Sony a couple years ago, but I still like Canon and wish they would actually bring some proper innovations.

  3. i rather have good lens at f6.3 then having a lousy lens like my SELP16-50mm f3.5-5.6.
using this lens i throw away 2 MP just because i have this massive vignette
(using lens correction will throw away the pixels too).

sony can not make lenses.. and the blue zeiss sticker doesn´t help on 90% of the sony lenses either.

be honest.. there are 3 or maybe 4 good lenses from sony everything else is just mediocre too crap.
the 10-18mm i send back immediately… 700 euro for such a piece of &/%/%….. unbelievable.

the decentering issue is not fixed. it´s like sigma 4 years ago.
because sony has next to no quality control.

    1. really? I use the 16-35/F4 Zeiss, the 70-200/F4 Sony G and the 28/f2 Sony… friend of mine uses the equivalents from Canon with a 6D. If I use my lenses with the a7s, there is pretty much no real difference. Mounting them to my a7RII they just blow away that Canon stuff…..
And if you consider that the 28-75 Sony Kit-Lens from the a7 is available for roughly 250€ (with OIS!) @ ebay (new…!), the performance isn’t that bad. But I am more into the 24-70/f2.8 Tamron A-mount+LAEA-3, which is really a no-brainer for the price given….

    2. …Yes, this mediocre Zeiss lenses… not to count a lot of crappy Canon, Nikon, Minolta or Contax lenses that can be used with full functionality on the latter A7II &A7RII with adapters or the zillion rotting manual focus legacy lenses, like the stinky Leica & Zeiss RF lenses, that can benefit from IBIS. Disgusting and useless cameras those Sony…You are right: why on earth would someone buy a Sony when they could have this new and innovative Eos-M?

  4. Can’t they make at least half decent attempt to bring real competition e.g. release Panasonic G7, A6000, M10, X-T10 like camera with few smallish brighter primes e.g. 24, 35, and 50mm etc. Givent hey did a great wide angle zoom and a great pancake….couple more lenses and built-in EVF may be the thing that will drive success for this model line….70D focusing will be nice too, no?
