Samsung gave an official answer to Imaging Resource about the rumor posted by Korean Journal “NewsTomato” saying Samsung is quitting out of the camera business. Samsung said:
“Withdrawing from the camera business is not true and there is no official plan to stop production of cameras and lenses. Samsung continuously analyzes the varying needs and requirements of consumers in each market and region very carefully. However, we do not officially comment on rumors or speculation.“
Good! Now let’s hope we will see some new NX cameras and lenses soon that can make the NX system even more attractive 🙂

Samsung is predicted to dominate the market by 2020 and push Sony out of the sensor business by the end of 2016. NX2 will be 2 gens ahead of Sony tech and force Sony to use 3rd party tech in their 3rd Gen A7 series.
The NX1 was cutting edge until the A7rII came out, then it became yesterdays news. So Samsung was about 9 months head of Sony with BSI, but the original A7’s still kill the NX1 on the DR front, the RII even more so. Yawn. And they still haven’t figured out how to implement BB AF on the NX1. I had one, the A7rII is a much better camera. Competition is good and I hope Sammy stays in the biz, but until they start cranking out FF cameras and some decent lenses, Sony will be fine.
I’d like to think a $3,200 camera would be better than a $1,300 one.
but is it $1,900 better?
You don’t count your purchases that way, is it worth a whole roomful of donuts then?
Price has nothing to do with it. The comment I replied to stated Samsung would be 2 generations ahead on the MKIII A7s when they aren’t even a generation ahead right now. They aren’t ahead at all.
Samsung have such confidence in their imaging devices that all of their latest flagship phones switched over to Sony sensors.
Developing and manufacturing imaging sensors is no cheap endeavour, which is why the likes of Nikon, Hasselblad, Fuji, Panasonic, Pentax, Olympus, Phase One, etc. are all buying from external suppliers – mainly Sony. Sony and Canon are really the only ones doing it all themselves (apart from the cameras where even Canon buy Sony), and nobody si investing more into it than Sony.
Sony being beat in this area by Samsung – never mind stopping altogether – is about as likely as Samsung stopping producing all electronics and moving instead into the lucrative gold-plated ping-pong ball market.
Actually half(or a little less) of the S6s have Samsung sensors, and even a side by side test concluded that there’s minimal difference between the two, seems that one is very slightly better under daylight and the other is very slightly better at night(forgot which is which).
Yeah and you know the reason why their phones have Samsung sensors? Because everyone wants Sony sensors and they can’t keep up with the demand. So Samsung had to improvise and put their own sensors in some phones.
But as I said, the difference is minimal. Samsung has at least one sensor model that could keep up with one of Sony’s newer better designs, so the gap isn’t that big.
Actually I have an S6E myself and I’m curious to know which sensor mine comes with, but I don’t know how to check lol

My Note 4 has a Sony sensor btw.
I know, I think the same one’s on S6, the ones with Sony sensors of course.

Oh that’s the way to check, sorry, I’ll try it now.
I have the Samsung lolol
BTW I don’t think the check was necessary for you, I believe all Note4s have the same Sony sensor.
No, afaik at least the ones with eynox cpu have a Samsung sensor and there are some with snapdragon that don’t have a Sony sensor either.
Does it really matter who makes the sensor? Samsung cameras are about the whole package. Sony Cameras, despite some technological specs and breakthrus are awful to use. I’ll still buy a Samsung camera as long as it uses the best sensor possible in the best package possible. I don’t care who makes the sensor.
I think we know where the Iraqi Information Minister works now.
Delusional.
That’s great. But no new ‘S’ lens announcement for over a year suggests development of the NX system has stopped
To me, this reads like the corporate version of, “No comment.”
Exactly, didn’t show much confidence 🙂
Actually, this statement might have been worse than saying nothing at all. I mean why, if they plan to stay in business, aren’t they stating it outright instead of giving us this PR BS?
To quote Samsung themselves:
“there is no official plan to stop production of cameras and lenses.”
So, the plan is there, it’s just not official.
I hope they continue making camera and camera sensor. Anyway, they make camera sensor for almost all the smartphone outthere and also iphone…
Actually Sony is making the iPhone sensors and even the Note 4 had Sony sensors, when they weren’t out of stock. Dunno about the current Galaxy generation, but it’s a fair bet that they have Sony sensors too.
Always half half, but the sensor on the smartphone is really not such a big deal
Notice it says “Withdrawing from the camera business is not true..”.,
The rumor is re. its NX line. No one said Samsung would stop making smartphone cameras that’s also a part of the camera business. Denying the generalization in this manner actually raises further doubt,. Samsung did the same thing for its laptop business.
We have identified the black propaganda source within our corporation. We will not publicly disclose what we did to him/her. For future perpetrators: your family will be affected, too.
I think we will really know the day they will release some new lenses and body.
“However, we do not officially comment on rumors or speculation.”
Err …
to read between the lines and you have the answer
Ed’s on the job.
LOL so this is what they commented on the rumors;
“there is no official plan to stop production of cameras and lenses”
and
“we do not officially comment on rumors”
OLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Samsung *face palm*
Looks quite like a modern variant of the Epimenides paradox, and it’s our job now to work out which of both statements is a lie 😉
Their statement seems to confirm the rumour, Samsung have unofficially stopped production and R&D for the NX line. Of course they won’t state officially because they’ve existing stock to clear, and better to keep the door open in case they want to resume development in the future.
The last NX ‘S’ lens was announced over a year ago, since then nothing. During that time Panasonic/Sony/Oly/Fuji have released/announced many new lenses.
The only way Samsung can prove they are still in the business is to release some new ‘S’ lenses and follow up with NX2.
