Fujifilm X30: “X-series DNA at an affordable price” (photographyblog review)

coming September 30, according to AmazonUS.

 Fujifilm X30
USA:  BHphoto / Adorama / AmazonUS / BestBuy / EUROPE: wexUK / wexDE / PCHstore

The Fujifilm X30 review is now online at photographyblog : 4.5 out of 5 stars for the X30. From the conclusions:

“The X30’s continued use of a relatively small 2/3-type sensor continues to deliver great image quality, but is starting to look a little under-powered when compared to the likes of the Sony Cyber-shot RX100 series and the Canon PowerShot G7 X with their 1-inch sensors and the Panasonic Lumix LX100 with its even bigger Micro Four Thirds sensor, especially when you consider that all of those cameras are smaller and lighter than the X30. Those rivals are all more expensive, though, so if you’re happy with the X30’s image quality, then we can certainly recommend it as a very well-built, refined and attractive camera that delivers the X-series DNA at an affordable price.”

  1. It appears the IQ is really good. Responsive handling, fast AF, and a lower price point all contribute to make this a good deal.

  2. This is a FANTASTIC deal its a mini X100T with less image quality but still a VERY capable camera, I have both the X10, X20, and the X100s and this will pair up nicely with my X100s giving me a great option to zoom as well. C’mon guys get behind this great camera it’s got tons going for it at a fantastic price point.

  3. This is an AMAZING camera, it rivals with all cameras up to 1″ sensor in colour JPEG and detalis! If you do not print large than why to buy 1″ at all which are all more expensive? X-30 is bigger, yes, but who cares, actually it’s better to hold it in hands, and 2/3″sensor is not as small as you can think but IQ is STUNNING! Sony and Canon can reach this level. It was wise Fuji decision to give us X30 in this shape and with features like these. BTW, I have all X-series cameras X10, X20, X100, X100s, X-Pro1, X-E1, X-E2 and X-T1 and I can tell you man, they give me all option for all situations.

    1. It seems you’re on the minority side as sale numbers show that customers think this is not a good deal. Specially with the small 2/3 sensor

      1. Sales numbers ? pre-orders numbers rather. Not trying to be a smart-A. there as the photokina and we do not yet have a proper review with a production version.

  4. “Affordable price” right.

I bought a Fuji XF-1 last fall for $199 new, not refurbed, with US warranty. THAT was “X-series DNA at an affordable price.”

There may still be a market for the bulky X30, but it needs to substantially drop its price.

    1. on the other hand the x-30 offers much much more than the x-f1; I must say that I am very tempted as a pocketable mini x-t1: tilt screen, modern evf, fast AF, video at apparently a adequate quality , xtrans II sensor; not too noisy up to 1600 isos; Just have to wait to see actual reports re quality of the lens and it make a rather tempting package, on my way to the X-T1….

  5. It looks like a really well rounded camera at a not too bad price. Shame it doesn’t exist in a vacuume though.

I don’t get excited about the Sony RX’s either though, handle like garbage with cramped little controls. Nice IQ but more tech toy than camera.

LX100 looks like a really compelling product, borrows plenty of design from recent Fuji’s, nice big sensor and quality lens.

  6. On ergonomics, style and price, I would still choose the X30 over one inch sensor models from Canon and Sony.

But Panasonic’s LX100 has ergonomics and controls that are even “more Fuji” than this Fuji, IQ that should handily beat even the one inch sensors, 4K video, and costs only a little more.

Hopefully, a 2/3 organic sensor in this same body in an x40 will once again lead the class next year. For me, the choice is now between finding a still awesome X20 at a great price or an LX100, or just sticking with what I’ve got and waiting for the “Great Pumpkin,” — I mean, the Organic sensor, next year.

    1. Sadly, demand surpasses supply here in Germany, so many orders will remain unfulfilled. It also means that I can’t get my hands on a production model, I can’t even buy one from Fuji for my uncle who asked me to grab one for him. All shipments have to go directly to retailers, leaving Fuji HQ here with a few preproduction samples. Hopefully, production numbers will increase in November.

      1. Rico, you don’t know how the current sales numbers look so far would you? I know they had a slow launch, but am now wondering how the sales are after a lot of the media and bloggers have hand some hands on time with the camera are singing praise for it.
