Come on, make it $899! 😛
Fujifilm lenses continue to lose value……
Unlike everything else in the electronics consumer industry which continue to soar in value the older they are….
Canon 85L that I bought years ago, $1500. Today’s price? A lot more.
My Nikkor 24mm f/1.4 lens has gone up $300 in price and I could sell it for a profit if I wanted to.
Fujifilm lenses lose 20% in value the moment you drive them off the lot.
That is more exception to rule than norm. Only camera usually to break rule maybe some Leica but very few Canikon stuff value go up.
I’ve made a few dollars on some lenses too, but to boast about hypothetical paper profits is delusional.
Back in the 2000 Tech Bubble, I knew people who boasted of huge paper profits in their tech stocks, until the market collapsed and they realized they had no REAL profits, but just a lot of hot air.
I hope Ratty Mouse has his retirement plan invested in Lens futures, as clearly she/he only ever buys lenses that increase in value.
Unfortunately, that “profit” of yours is caused by the dollar losing its value.
You picked up an 85L for $1500? Presumably that would be version 1, not version 2? Otherwise I’m impressed with your haggling skills. If you bought a version 2 years ago when the MSRP was $2199, you also managed to reduce its value very quickly. Nice work!
You are dreaming in fantasy land. Try actually selling those lenses in the real world and see what you actually get. Hint-all lenses/cameras lose 20% or more as soon as they are on the open market, as they are now considered USED, just like your beloved 85 and 24.
I don’t buy camera gear to collect or increase on value. I buy camera gear as work tool for job. I make money off sales of images come from gear, not gear itself.
You want to buy gear as investment, then you should look to Leica M-P Rolls Royce edition or M7 Hello Kitty Shibuya edition complete with fuzzy ear camera case.
I believe these lenses were used in some kind of open floor demo. So technically what you’re buying is a used lens, hence the price drop.
