Up to $550 off on the A7 cameras in Australia.

Just like US also Australian stores are offering huge deals on the A7 series. Right now you get up to $550 off at CameraPro (Click here).

And as long as I know there is no direct replacement coming yet…

  1. This deal does not appear on the CameraPro website. It only shows the prices with the cashback from Sony, not the prices shown here.

    1. Yes. Or LA-EA4. So FF Alpha mount camera for $1050 including taxes is nuts. Also can claim the tax back if heading overseas. $200 off lenses, brings the 70-200mm G down to $1250.

  2. There is definetely something better is coming, or the would not be such fire sales. A9 A9 where are you… 😉

    1. I’m actually with you on this one. I’m currently using an A99/A77 user, and even-though I haven’t bought into the A7 I do see its potential, which is why I’ve held off on any new camera purchases.

I’m hoping to toss the A77 (and keep the A99 of course), and switch over to an A7 once its AF speed reaches A6000 levels, and use it on those occasions where I don’t need a large body camera, or heavy f/2.8 zooms.

      1. A7 was a great missed opportunity with non-working OSPDAF and slow sequential shooting speeds. A7s was even more puzzling given the half of pixels of A7 – and no OSPDAF at all half a year after a6000. I have no explanation but them doing it on purpose, to preserve space for A9. And yet, it will be a year after A7 already, why wait, all technology is ready for months.

  3. I think that’s a great idea. If Sony was able to lower the A7 series prices by $550.00 it would easily dominate the mirror-less high end, and probably squeeze some of its fiercest competitors out of the CSC game altogether.

They could recoup their money by charging unrealistic prices for their Zeiss branded FE lenses.

    1. Its pretty ruthless way to do things. None of the mirror-less players are prepared to go full frame, and I doubt they could if they’ve tried. Sony’s going to take them out before they even have a chance to come up with anything competitive.

It reminds me of how Microsoft took out Lotus 123, Word Perfect, and the Macintosh Computer in the early 90s by introducing Microsoft Office for Windows computers. By the time the competition were able to sort themselves, and modify their products , it was already too late, because Windows, and Office has already replaced them as the Industry standard.

The A7 will eventually become the industry standard mirror-less camera for semi-pro/professionals.

      1. No, it really isn’t. Digidirect and Sony Centre’s (and some other stores) have been doing the same thing.

        1. Well there is the one above (which got removed after stock was sold-through). Digidirct did a mail out, as did Sony Centre.

          1. I got an email from digital camera warehouse that has these offers and an image that looks like the one above. I think the admin has the wrong store.

  4. This is targeted deal for the subscribers of that site and not everyone can get it for the price shown, however Sony has a $300 cashback on the A7 series and lenses except the kit 28-70. I have received an email from Sony direct and it shows the a7 for $1050 body only, A7R $1600.

  5. Where did you find this image?
I have just gone to the website and only see the standard $300 cashback, and I can’t see anything like this image on their website

    1. It was just getting emailed out to select customers. Similar emails from Sony Centre and DCW. If you go into any of the major shops, just show them this screen grab or ask about the sale. My local shop in Melbourne with supply didn’t know about the sale when I asked, but still came close enough to the sale price that I just walked out with a new Sony A7S…

  6. Any chance we see the A7s sensor in a less expensive camera or maybe a monster lowlight APSC camera? Want an A7s but too expensive.

    1. Be patient. In Germany the price of the A7r has dropped by € 500.- within less than three quarters of a year. I bet same will happen with A7s…
If Sony acts similar we will see a A7t, A7u, A7v, A7w…until we see any prime lens above 100mm

      1. Yep, got mine for 1.749,- €. But you don’t like to always wait.

We always pay the Dollarprice 1:1 in Euro. That’s ridiculous.
And Sony DE never does such special deals like Sony US or AUS.

        1. Same in France, the starting price is expensive, but the real problem is you get lucky if a 5% discount is offered, even when a new model is launched ! The RX100 (the first one) still cost about 450€….

          1. I assume my complain is valid for EU € region.

Of course I am aware of modern marketing and pricing.
The thing I am pi..ed about is, that Sony treats us EU €’s like milk cows.

It is always like this. If sales is not good enough, Sony US/AUS are starting cash back or other special deals. If this model works, they adapt some month later to the Europe prices.

A friend ordered the FE55 and the FE2470 via a trusted Hong Kong reseller. 599,-€ and 750,-€. Including VAT and customs he paid a total of 1.660,-€. At that time the German cheapest price was 2.028,-€ (929,- and 1.099,-).
I asked my reseller here in DE, and he said, if he would give the lens for the Hong Kong price plus VAT, he would have a loss….

I always was an early adopter. But with the purchase of the A99 two years ago (2.699,-, currently 1.899,-, 500,- drop after 5 month) , the 70400G2 last year (2.299,-, currently 1.899,-, 200,- drop after 2 month) they annoyed me so much that I will not buy shortly after release.
Another crazy example is the 70200G2. It was released at a price of 2.999,-. Just some month ago. Thanks god I did not trade in my 70200G for it at that time. Currently it is listed at my retailer for 2.399,-…..

          2. I know. It’s depressing to live in Germany. Everything is so ridiculously expensive, it’s almost a joke. And most things have poor quality on top of that. Frankly, camera prices are the least of my concerns given that you can’t even buy food with controlled quality without paying tons of money. The quality of water’s fairly shitty too.
I buy all my gear in Japan.

  7. Won’t be long before a used a7X costs less than a used a900. I give it about two more years, and watch as a900 used prices start to skyrocket. The a7X series will be long forgotten.

    1. Oh wait… it’s already happened. Based on this sale, used a900’s are selling for more than brand new a7’s. Damn!

      1. I sol my a900 about a month ago for more than I paid for it. That’s because it’s becoming increasingly hard to find one with low shutter clicks. The OVF is making it a cult classic. Not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

      2. shutter count and overal condition of the body make the price. this year i sold my a850 for approximately 800 euro. i bought it brand new in 2011 for nearly 1800 euro.

        1. …and i think the a7 is the better camera (for me). i appreciate its low price considering how much more i get with it compared to my old camera.

  8. The likelihood of any 3rd party manufacturer producing FF mirrorless lenses is very low so now’s probably a good time to increase the user base and get more lens customers. All they have to do now is announce a few desirable lenses at Photokina and watch them sell.

  9. There was a sale through the Sony Rewards site that was selling the A7 for $999 body only and $1099 with kit lens. That was crazy. Of course there were a few restrictions, having to be a member, having to live in the US and having to have their Sony credit card.

I don’t see why people knock this camera, at its price range and it’s capabilities – mounting almost every possible lens out there, it’s a great piece of technology. I only hope they continue to develop it and improve on it. The A99 works, but it’s a brick. Please continue innovating

  10. This is strange, Sony is behaving like a carpet salesman, always 30% to 50% off. The company has to believe it’s own price list.

I understand that there are clearance sales when new models are coming up, but this cannot be the case here.

    1. It only means that the actual value of their products is low and prices heavily inflated from the beginning. As an early A7 buyer – this sucks.

  11. here we go, the full story:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/n…
so first it was 300$+300$ also via webshop, but now its 300$ off visible only, the other 300$ you should ask in store.
Anyway, LOVELY eu prices almost twice as much as these.

  12. Why are people complaining about a good cashback offer? I never pay retail. I heavily bought into Olympus and Panasonic but due to increased cashback offer today I now own the a7s too. So it worked. Well done Sony and thank you.

PS. A7s is still too expensive in my view vs GH4. The GH4 is just fantastic.

      1. Which part?

What I don’t get is why anyone would buy a new system without cashbacks and then complain about the inevitable price drops. Olympus cashbacks were huge this year. Sony is following this.

Europeans are getting ripped off, I know that.

        1. This is what you don’t get: (1) Full Frame VS Crop (2) it’s not a “new system”. It’s a “versatile system”: with an M an F adaptor I get to use my 20 lenses from two different systems on a single Sony body (3) my Voigtlander Close Focus adapter, mounted on my A7r, dramatically reduces the minimal focusing distance of my Leica, Voigtlander, Zeiss and Nikkor lenses (4) manual focusing experience on A7r is superior to the one I get on my Monochrom. Here is what you don’t get.

  13. Not correct. I just rang the camerapro store. The A7 $1599 price is already discounted by $250, the only cash back you get extra is the $300 from Sony, bringing it down to $1299 not $1049
