Next week will be a hot Fuji week! I recommend you to follow Fujirumors also on facebook, google+, RSS-feed and twitter.
In fact, an anonymous source with nick-name said that, mid next week, Fuji will launch both, the new superbokeh lens 56mm 1.2 APD (price around $1400/1500) and the XF 50-140 2.8 R LM OIS WR for a retail price of $1500-1600. This has also been confirmed by digicame-info today.
Yep, this means that digicame-info confirmed the 56mm f/1.2 APD rumor, so you can be less sceptical about the rumor I posted yesterday 😉
We also already know that the X100T will come on the 10th of September… will we have a multiple announcement on that day? I’ll try to find out the precise date of the lens announcements, but my guess: we will see all this coming on the 10th of September.

Finally! I think a lot of us have been waiting patiently for that 50-140….
Will be interesting to see how well it works. Been eyeing the Nikon 70-200/4 but if this comes in similar pricing/performance, no reason.
I would prefer they released the 16-55 OIS before a second 56mm.
I couldn’t agree more. 10-24, 16-55 2.8 and the 50-140 would be a solid setup.
Totally agree with your point of view….it dooesnt make any sense, is logical or understandable/resonable (even not the weight issue!!!) due to the fact that this PRO standard zoom is the bread & butter lens for most of us (pro &consumers) and the other pro tele zoom lens the 50-140 2.8 has it (so every pro lesn /zoom shpuld have ois would make sense/marketing) and even the “non pro labelled” wide angle zoom 10-24 has ois…
So if it is the fact of weight issues why the hell has the “non pro labelled” wide angle zoom ois (wide angle ois is much more obsolete or not necessary)???
It should have been better if the widenagle zomm wouldnt have OIS but the pro standard zoom lens which will be the bread and butter lens/general purpose lens for the majority of enthusiast users/pros….completely incomprehensible!!!
Fujis has made big big design and constructional mistakes:
Lens:
1. Every pro lens should have OIS as well as the rumored 90 f2 (1.8) and all new macro lens (please with 1:1 magnification! otherway it is useless!)
2. No Aperture markings on every lens (or at least differentiate it so all xf lens have markings only the xc lens not)
3. All prime lens (at least, if no pro wide angle zoom is planned than the 10-24f4 ois as the only exception also weather sealed would be comprehensible and easy explainable) should be weather sealed from the scratch on
Cams:
Let alone the outdated technical specs in the x cams (flash sync of 1/180, shutter speed of 1/4000 despite using focal plane shutters in their interchangeable x cams like the others in the competition….if they were using leaf shutters as they are doing with/in the fuji x100 ()s series than the shutter speed limit of 1/4000 would be comprehensible& reasonable (see other leaf shutter cams all limit of 1/4000!).
Now it seems they wanna save money using old, outdated shutter/flash parts syncs specs in order to maximize incomme/profit and reduicng costs or they havent got the ability on engineering it with standard flash sync and higher shutter speeds especially with regard to their focal plane shutter cams (fuji x interchangeable cams)
Anyway it doesnt cast a positive light on Fuji (designing/engineering/whole imaging department)!
I could extend the list easily with reagrd to cams..
Let alone:
16 tiff in raw conversion
better/more extended exposure bracketing
lower native raw file iso 50 or 100 at least
double sd card slot
Finally, the big big probelm with raw conversion…so Fuji should thinking of cooperate with adobe or capture one exclusively or buy completey pay photo ninja, irident whatevery company exclusively programming for their cameras the xtrans sensor the raw conversion
no competitive flashes/flash system ttl is non existent and the development of a flash system is still completely in its infancy..
Anyway it doesnt cast a positive light on Fuji (designing/engineering/whole imaging department)!
Although I know the fuji x system is not very old…….;) but it could have been easily much better, powerful and more users (photographers worldwide in general)! I am using Fuji due to the gorgeous handling, controls and the retro design as well as of less weigth (issues)
If Fuji wanna be seriously the leader (leading camera manufacturer) of mirrorless cameras and wanna have as much as fuji users and new users switching systems (“dslr switchers”) than they have to work hard reducing their own specific problems/limits, lacks/imperfections as well as their already made mistakes. Furthermore they have to listen to customers (which they already doing like no other -maybe even more) and finally deliver deliver deliver…..
So Fuji keep it up! Time is running…Kaizen:)
Please fuji develop some special purpose lens like a fisheye and one tilt and shift lens alt least (would be welcomed for architecture, landscpae and product photographers would love it!! -equivl. to the canon 17f4 tse) But it was only after you completed your general lens roadmap and solved the named lacks and features;?
You do realize that Fuji has built the most complete APS-C mirrorless lineup in the shortest time, right? Sony’s E-mount was out well before Fuji and already the Fuji lineup is head and shoulders better with regards to lenses. There is already a 1:1 macro for Fuji (yes, I’d like it to be longer and have OIS as well…I’m sure one will eventually come), the 18-55 has OIS and outstanding image quality and is small and plenty good for most uses, and they’ve got amazing primes. If you need a fisheye now, the Rokinon 8mm is truly excellent optically, and very small and inexpensive. Sure I’d like a T/S as well, but that’s way down the road.
Partially agree….no doubt i am ungrudging them for their already remarkable way but my points are valid and for me (“even from a neutral territory/not involved people”) not contradictable…better is always possible despite the short time especially becoause it doesnt make any any any sense with regard to their handling of aperture markings and OIS….completely incomprehensibel
Sure the 18-55 has Ois but why not the pro standard zoom which should be optically superior (hopefully)?? As i already mentioned/expalined above there are no logical/comprehensible reasons for not implementing ois in the pro standard zoom lens….
IMHO the 50-140 is severely overpriced at over 1500 usd. For a system where the highest priced camera body is 1700 usd – and that’s only for the first three months after launch – 1500-1600 for a zoom lens, be it a ‘professional’ zoom lens, is way too much. At 1200 I could see a lot of people going for it, including myself – at 1500, not so much. Again, just my humble opinion.
it’s maybe the first time that I hope to be wrong with a rumor 😉
So you are saying they should make the bodies more expensive, too? 😉
70-200 (equivalent) lenses are the bread and butter of pro-photographers, the difference of a few hundred dollars sucks for enthusiasts but doesn’t make much difference to anybody making a living with their camera gear.
There are currently two other telephoto zooms from Fuji you can have for much less.
True. Having said that, no other 50-140 zoom. Give me a f4 and I’ll be fine 🙂
Isn’t the 55-200 close enough? I’m not sure what aperture it has at 140, but given it is only half a stop slower at 200, it should be close to f/4. And even faster at the short end. I’m sure you can find a way to make it stop zooming at 140. 😉
Yes, but presumably a 50-140 f4 would be smaller, lighter and cheaper than the 55-200 :).
made me wonder the difference between the current 56mm vs the upcoming one.. does this mean the current 56mm have flaw or does the upcoming one will be compatible for a full frame sensor? hmmmm… i wonder…
Fullframe sensor with 56 lens is a very weird focal length
Not really. There are a few full frame 56mm lenses from pentax and nikon.
Perhaps but most people buy their 50 lens, not around 50
Or the Otus 55, which is supposed to be the best 35mm lens ever…
I should have said around 56 mm ie 55 or 58 mm lenses
No it won’t work on full frame. The X mount is not designed for full frame sensors. Why is this still a thing? The lens isn’t flawed at the moment, technically, but it’s only got a seven blade aperture and beyond f2 out of focus highlights start to show a heptagonal (7 sided) shape that isn’t to everybody’s tastes. Presumably the new lens will have a higher blade count (e.g 9) with rounded edges to improve OOF areas. This special lens coating they are talking about may also help to reduce bokeh fringing (areas of false colour at the edges of OOF areas) when shooting wide-open.
Patrick,
Any word if OIS was indeed removed from the upcoming 16-55 2.8?
it was removed. I don’t know why. But Fuji knows what FR-readers think about it:
OIS or DOA… your move, FUJI
http://www.fujirumors.com/poll-ois-16-55mmf2-8-90mmf2-yes/
I can say that they actually removed (blackened with a marker) the OIS mention on the dummy lens displayed at the Fuji showroom in Tokyo… so it’s really bad news…
Dear Fuji, can we send in our XF56 for an upgrade to XF56 APD? I don’t mind paying since the XF60 is meant to be a portrait lens.
1.5k LOL
don’t worry, it will be $1499 😉
Patrick, is there any chance that another camera than the X100T gets released next week?
For the 56mm APD, I can’t wait to see the comparisons with/without!
Might make sense to have a 35mm APD too one day, if it’s so effective.
well, I’m not so presumptuous to think that I know everything, so maybe there is something my sources were not able to dig up. So who knows.
I’ve just heard of the X100T, the X30 and maybe the X-PRO2 (but available only in a year from now… so it might not be the final camera, just a tech demo or so. Read this rumor: http://www.fujirumors.com/fujifilm-x-pro2-unveiled-photokina-available-time-next-year/).
I haven’t heard of any other camera
Any cheap lenses coming ? (pancake style)
I’m not a rich guy and it seems new lenses all cost more than 1k… I dream about this 56mm SuperBokeh but the ‘old’ 56mm is already too expensive for me… (maybe prices will drop with the new one ? )
Leaving in France, hot deals mostly happened in US… With shipping and custom tax, not a hot deal anymore… Europe hot deals coming ?
Any 100mm macro lense coming ? Maybe the new 90mm f2 ?
no new pancake rumors until now
Looking less and less like there will be an XPRO 2 announcement. Fuji likes to leak, so I think we would have heard by now. So has the Xtrans become a major headache for Fuji, is it in fact more trouble than it is worth and how many times more can Fuji serve up the same sensor and keep the faith with their customers. Reading the comments here you get the impression that many feel that an XPRO 2 is long over due. There are brilliant sensors already out there, put one in Fuji’s superbly designed cameras and I’ll be happy and I suspect so will many others who are put off by the Raw processing problems but would otherwise love one of these cameras.
The nikon d810 is doing fine without an aa filter and it is not an xtrans sensor.
“fuji likes to leak”… Since I know what strong measurements Fuji took to prevent leaks, I have to disagree with this statement… but don’t worry, the measurments do not influence the natural rumor-flow 🙂
But, nevertheless, it’s also in the nature of a rumor site that I can be wrong, or not be able to see new gear coming. So surprises are still possible.
Regarding the X-PRO2, here is the latest update: http://www.fujirumors.com/fujifilm-x-pro2-unveiled-photokina-available-time-next-year/
It seems to me that since the XT1 came out Fuji is making a lot of wierd moves.
Even though the XT1 is a big success. Have they put too much of their strength on that camera and the other products got a bit left behind, the R&D on those products got a bit retarded and have to catch up a lot of time before being really relevant?
I think there was only one real move since the X-T1… the X30. Anything I missed?
Not to spoil the party but digicame-info takes your website as the source and now you are pointing back to digicame info for the 56mm I still think it doesn’t make any sense.
No new camera next to the X100T is a real BIG disappointment though
But digicame-info says: “From readers, we have to provide a list of new products that Fujifilm is coming soon.”
Patrik, could you ask your sources if Fujifilm is going to bring new firmwares upgrade to current X-cameras regarding improvements and fixing issues of image quality and AF performace? Fuji did nothing in this area for X-E2, X-T1 and X-100s. It looks like Fuji treats X-E2 as forgotten child, Photokina seems a great opportunity to bring a new firmware upgrades to those cameras, which would bring more attention to Fujifilm and would make these cameras even more rival to new ones that Sony, Olympus, Nikon and Panasonic will present there. I am between decision if to stay with Fuji or move to Sony, because I am already tired to beg Fujifilm to fix some serious issues in X-E2 (JPEGs smearing, inconsistent WB, owful magneta cast at high iso and waxy skin tone) and improve some sides which Fuji can do – like AF.
If you think those cameras feel forgotten spare a thought for us X-E1 users still hoping we’ll get colour focus peaking options!
Did Fuji promis you a firmware update when you bought the camera?
Good luck with substantial firmware updates at Sony. 😉
I do not understand what’s your intention with this question? Do not you want to support Fuji camera users, or you want to suggest them to f..k off? Fuji made in past many improvements, also regarding AF performace and IQ, why we can not to expect it to make it same now? So, yes I still believe Fuji will do it and did not changed the behaviour of the past. Do you know something about it has changed that? Then share with it please.
BTW, a few months ago Sony improved AF and IQ in A7, read how many thanks Sony was given for that from users.
But historically sony is like all the other cam manufacturers (nikon, canon, ricoh/pentax, olympus, pana) not rewarded and could be named to release continously and always firmware udates for their cams…
Thats no wonder because no manufacture coudl directly get some money for FW, it costs them money, tiem and personal capacities…..
They only do if there were big mistakes, errors etc. which they And the Q& department didtn notice while producing/developing ….
Maybe some cam companies will offer special fw services in the future basic improvements for their own mistakes, errors lack of appropriate testing, noticing, Q&A department and additional improvement packages via charging/additional paying (like addons for games or different software versions e.g. “basic and pro” offering different features) you pay and then they you will get…
This would eliminate their costs and woudl be a new business (field of income ) for them….
Time will tell…..;) I would pay if the oly em1 could get 4K….;) if the processor were able which is surely not powerfull enough…..
That’s better idea, I wold be willing to pay some money for firmware upgrade ($100 for “Pro” version?) that improves e.g. X-E2 performance significantly, e.g AF, that’s ok. But X-E2′ JPEGs has issues and colour faults that has not occured in X-E1, even WB works worse and unconsistently, I find it as Fujifilm fault and error. So, I expect them to fix it in new firmware upgrade. If they will not do it, I am not going to buy next X- cam. Sorry, I am not going to be a sucker third time.
Its comprehensible….so fuji has to deliver the FW for the xe2 in order to tackle these /your named issues and FOR FREE ;)!
Yeah, I was the only one who named them and asked Fuji to fix in FW…. you must not to play down of these issues.
I am sure nobody minds if you post your complaints about the X-E2 JPGs a fifth or sixth time on the same blog-entry, if it makes you feel any better.
What I am saying is: you get a free lunch and then complain there is no dinner. And also the lunch was not as tasty as it should have been.
Wrong, not free lunch, it is paid. The lunch turned out to be not equal as the menu and advertising described it, because there were some rotten vegetables. So I ask for new and fesh ones, of course for free. You may not expect it, I do.
So you paid for the firmware upgrades? And you were tricked into buying the X-E2 by false promises? Then you need a lawyer, not a firmware upgrade. ^^
I was refered ‘lunch’ analogy to X-E2 buy. X-E2 was promised as better camera with better IQ compared to X-E1. It was not true regarding JPEGs, futhermore – it turned out to be much worse in this area. You own X-E1 so you do not experience it, and that’s why you seems not understand my “complains”, and probably it’s the reason you play down of these issues. Lucky satiated.
Since I started the analogy I get to decide what it refers to. And the ‘lunch’ was the firmware-updates you got and will get – but I guess those won’t satiate you either.
I don’t have an X-E2, but I made a couple of hundred shots with an X100s, which shares the same sensor and the same processor as the X-E2. I am very happy with them. I also saw plenty of shots made with an X-E2 and have not encountered any serious issues with the JPG quality.
Anyway, if you think your camera takes bad pictures, get a different camera. I am out of here.
dirk, than you must be completely blind if you do not see any issues with JPEGs. Sorry, I can not take seriously any of your advice or comments about IQ you share with.
There will be updates, but in October & December. Especially December. X-T1 updateds for sure, maybe also X-E2 and X100S, but still not confirmed.
I don’t know if changing the JPEG engine will be one of those changes.
Thanks Partik. If you get some details, bring them to us. Still hope Fuji will improve JPEG engine in X-E2 (and in X-100S, X-T1 too) which renders much worse JPEGs – especially high iso – compared to X-E1/X-Pro1 I had (JPEGs high quality was main reason I moved to Fuji, probably many people too) but they suffered with AF performance. I am not going to buy new X-E3 and changing X-series for every 1,5 – 2 year, not any more. Lost too much trust Fuji can make camera with better IQ since last ones are step back in this side.
I think the 56mm APD will be a manual focus lens, just like the Minolta, this way they don’t have to kill the “old” 56
Why would it ‘kill’ the ‘old’ 56mm? It will lose a good couple stops of light gathering for that Bokeh.
yeah absolutely it will kill at least one full stop…..for the apodizing element if used……there is no free lunch and not always a win win situation youre geeting both simultanouesly…..you have to decide sharpness vs. blur/bokeh…..nikkor 58 1.4 is calling 😉
Personally will just stick with my Zeiss 85mm, but the point is they don’t need to make it MF to differentiate from the ‘old’ 56mm, as it will have lower transmission. But Minolta weren’t able to make the STF AF so maybe the apodisation filter makes AF difficult? But who knows, maybe CDAF isn’t such a problem?
I guess now that enough people own the cameras the new lens prices are going up? The pricing is getting to where you might as well own a full frame dSLR.
Yeah, I came to Fuji because of the lenses, they were awesome (they still are) but didn’t cost a kidney. For these prices, while I save until I have the money to buy them, I think I’ll grab the cheapest FF body I can find and start collecting those engineering miracles that Sigma has been constantly releasing.
If I compare to what a Canikon 70-200/2.8 costs, it’s o.k. if the quality (optically, build wise and autofocus speed) is great. Having FF, too, a 70-200/2.8 is 1.5kg. I don’t mind the weight for work, but when traveling a lighter lens would be fine. So before I don’t know anything about the lens in detail, I don’t say anything about the price. For the masses, the 55-200 should be fine.
Except it’s not a 70-200 2.8. “50-140 2.8” is Fuji speak for 75-210 4.2, which puts it up against the 70-200 f/4 IS, which is $1300, has USM, is teleconverter compatible, and requires much more glass.
I know, DOF corresponds to 4.2 on FF, but focal length over diameter is a constant 2.8 and therefore light intensity/unit square is the same. It should be similarly difficult to design one (and to account for the smaller sensor size it should resolve more lp/mm). I have the 70-200/2.8 for Nikon FF, which is a beast and needs to be stopped down a little to be suitable on the D810 (contrast and sharpness lacks wide open, CAs and flares are another issue).
Pixel pitch is similar to the XT1 or D7000. So making the lens sharp from 2.8 on would be great. It would make a great backup body with this lens and the 56/1.2 (and the 90/2 if it indeed comes).
Well, ISO just isn’t a meaningful system in the digital realm. The crop sensor effectively reduces light gathering. ISO 800 on APS-C is not as clean as ISO 800 on full frame, and a large part of the reason for that is they actually aren’t the same boost in sensitivity. This is why DPReview started posting effective aperture for compact cameras. So, if your system is limited to APS-C, the lens becomes like a 4.2 for both DoF and light compared to FF.
True. Always depends on your objective. If you need a certain DOF for equal sensor generation there shouldn’t be a difference after adjusting for same FOV and total light. FF always wins when you are able to use the lenses wide open, for example. I like thin DOF, especially for wide angle.
When they finally appear, the USD price is frequently much lower.
Find out more about that 50-140, I’m probably going to preorder that thing. I’m voracious for more news
A modern lens with apodization element? Fuji is becoming more interesting for me over time. Though there is a possibility of doing custom modification of regular lens to include apodization filter. I have links to people who are doing that on my page on bokeh: http://jtra.cz/stuff/essays/bokeh/index.html
APO/STF means the loss of some light due to the optic design. I’m wondering to see how this new 56/1.2 performs.
does anyone know if the 50-140 is going to be an internal zoom or will the lens length increase when zooming?
What is obvious in all this rumors, is that the prices on updated items are increasing.
Fuji should decide whether to head Leica direction, but then please, with adequate products or would like to swim in the mainstream as the most expensive brand.
Seems that the short term Fuji aim is to outperform the Sony FF gear with higher price tags….
