Here is one more little update on the X30 front:
A source, who was right in the past (SRP), said that the X30 will feature a view mode button (I’d love that on my X-E2!!!) and a have 6 function buttons.
I hear you asking for the price, and that is often one of the trickiest part of rumors. But let’s say that the rumored specs list is correct, what is the maximum you would spend for it?

It would be great if it were a leaf shutter – but I doubt it.
I believe is the same shutter system as x10/20,which is a leaf shutter I think,u can sync up to 2000 with no prob
if it can and has the built in ND – it could be an interesting family travel camera – shooting friends/family in scenics mid-day while overcoming the sun with a flash – assuming I can trigger a small off camera flash optically from the x30 with a small popup like the T1 has.
^^
Can’t get it. If they are not keeping the overall previous design experience, and there isn’t an IQ:=sensor+lens improvement even TODAY with the street competition, why would FUJI expect me to get one of these?
Trust me, I would have loved to buy one. Those makeup tweaks only seem an insult.
You make it sound like the X30 was designed for you personally. And it didn’t meet the requirements. 😉
Dirk, you might well be right. Nevertheless, *those were the default specs at least expected by most of that FUJI segment for a long time now. Wouldn’t you agree?
*If the X-×0 line success came from that design and overall experience, the only thing you should improve considering the available options, is a sensor-lens upgrade.
Makeup may help once or twice but doesn’t make sense to keep using indefintely. My very personal two cents ; )
Honestly i am getting tired of everyone demanding a perfect camera with all the features, and when when something similar comes out, very few will actually buy it because of insane R&D price. I shot great pics with X10, and even XQ1, As a person who had X100, has XPro1 and is waiting for another major step in Fuji line up, I don’t see a point for me to buy this, but my gf does, it would be perfect for her while I still would enjoy using it once in a while.
And even if it had everything you wanted, it would be a much bigger heavier camera, it would no longer we a pocket version, it would be an XE2 fixed lens monster… with huge price tag ( not a 450/500$ that most of you seem to vote for) (then go bye Leica vario X)
Fuji makes great stuff for a great price unlike Sony or Leica
Perfect? hardly! how about just keep up with the competition. rx100 III squeezed in a evf without changing the size at 1/2 the size of x20 so yeah fuji can definately stick in a 1″ and a evf. If not, then don’t god dam update the camera every year like canikon does. ….no wait what am i saying, keep it coming and let the prices drop.
Theu could have atleast gave it a new lens…..a 24-110 would have been great. ..
+1 for a little wider angle
All the specs sound pretty good… except for the tilt screen. I’d prefer the X30 have the same form factor as the X20. Not to mention II would like to reuse my thumbrest and a RRS L-Plate. Weather-sealing would also be a nice addition.
This may be the camara I am looking for. I went to get a new P&S last weekend and wnated to compare the Sony Rx100 III and the X20. I lliked the larger sensor on the Sony, but the zoom range was just a hair short for me. If it had gon to 90mm I would have pulled the trigger for it. I was told the 20 was “discontinued” I decided to hold off a while. Looks like a good decision. I’ll see what shakes out with this camera first. I’ll tolerate any price up to the price of the Sony.
Try the Sony RX100 II instead for that matter. You will get a longer zom range.
I always find my choices in the US famous company
Don Springer (aka “Streetshooter”) has a great post about the X20 and its 2/3″ sensor. I always enjoy his images and posts so wanted to give a shout out here, as it seems timely.
Sure, wanting a 1″ and the technically better IQ is a valid point of view, but Don’s stunning images don’t exactly suffer from “noise,” and he makes the most of the added DoF provided by the 2/3″ sensor.

Don’t confuse the emotions with facts. 🙂
LOL. You’re right, of course. Having the OPTION of cleaner, noise free images is certainly preferable.
But Don’s photos often make me want MORE noise and grit in my images, not less, and “IQ” vs emotion isn’t much of a contest.
I like to stop and reflect on that once in a while. Then i go back to wanting the best technology too.
I personally think we’ve been in a state of diminishing returns in sensor technology for quite a while now. So people are clamoring for larger sensors because that seems like the only way to get something they think will automatically make their pictures better. It may, it may not.
I’m waiting, too, for a big leap. I have an X-E2 and don’t plan to update until there’s something significantly better out there, not just a marginal or less improvement.
But you purchased an XE-2, not an XE-1, and the IQ is about the same, isn’t it? The other improvements were enough to sway you to pay more. I’d agree. Those features would likely be worth it to me as well.
The X20 to X30 seems analogous.
Actually I have both an X-E1 and E2. I converted the E1 to astrophotography use. But yes, I bought the E2 full well knowing the image quality is effectively identical. I considered it the better camera for what I wanted and it was a strategic decision looking forward. So the next thing will have to be a really big jump for me.
Two great cameras. I”d imagine that things like writing to card speed and autofocus speed are no issue for astrophotography, and have been largely addressed by firmware anyway at this point. 🙂 Sounds like a great system. And two bodies with very similar buttons and dials is great for muscle memory
Douglas, nobody states the X20 isn’t a hell of a camera. I say it should be improved by now. If I follow that path, we shoud have stayed with a Ford T.
🙂
I’d LOVE a big leap in sensor tech. I’m bummed that the X30 isn’t packing a 2/3 ORGANIC sensor.
But don’t sell the Ford Model T short. I’ll bet it is pretty fun to drive, now and again! 🙂
My wife has a Sony RX II. I am looking for a pocket camera on par with my wife’s camera, which has become off limits to me ;-). So the question is how does the fuji sensor compare to the 1 inch sensors in the sony RX and the Nikon 1 V2 or V3? Is there anything out there with an honest comparison to what is in the X20?
It will likely be comparable in good light, but it will likely diminish quickly in low light compared to say, Sony’s 1″ sensor or even Samsung’s (less so the v1). 2/3 sensors will also give you VERY little control over DoF. Honestly at this stage in tech, I don’t see the point of a 2/3″ sensor cam as it won’t be far off from one of the better phone cameras. You’ll get better controls with this cam for sure, and the EVF is a great feature here… I’m just not sure it is worth it when you could get many other cameras for the same price that will likely beat the heck out of it IQ wise and be roughly the same size. $450 is too high for this. The options for cams in that price range are quite good if you are ok with used, refurbished or at least discontinued.
im happy that i already own my x20 .. i stay with it … if it will have 1″ sensor maybe i start to thinking of it, but EVF ? one of the reasons i bought X20 was the most perfect OVF ive seen
